Greetings fellow zombie lovers !

I have long pondered what the Subjugation skill does for us. After hours of tests I am still clueless. Reading the describtion "This is how well you use spells to command pets and control monsters" .... Command pets ?? Does this mean that a lvl 7 Necromancer with very low subjugation skill, have to click attack 400 times for the pet to react ? Or does it walk away punching random npcs from time to time ? Well, whenever I hit a button, the pet reacts instantly, and it does follow me whereever I go.. and it better *shakes fist*

I have tried increasing and decresing my subjugation using my current gear. Of course I make sure int is maxed at all time so it wont affect the outcome. The only thing I notice is a small increase in the pet offensive and defensive stands. VERY small increase. The pet itself doesnt benefit at all. At least not from what can be seen in its persona window ( Possess minion )

Disruption skill increase is much more noticable, and affect a lot more spells. So I am just wondering why a lot of Necromancer gear has subjugation increases. Maybe subjugation is nice for enchanters causs it makes charming more powerfull ? I have no idea. But a very small increase in pet stands and possibly better control undead is close to nothing. It affects 3 spells of which you can only use 2 at the same time.

Any dark soul out there know of any other use for this mysterious skill ? When I ask around in-game, I get a lot of silly answers and guesses.

Message Edited by Nagazch on 07-28-2006 11:40 AM

About the only place I can think of that you might see a difference would be the 'control monsters' part of that description, namely using the Ancient Teachings spell 'Control Undead'. I would think that it would affect the chance of the monster to break control before the spell duration expires, but that's just logic... and we know how well that works sometimes in this game :smileywink:

But that goes in line with your guess about it being more important for enchanters, which makes sense having a specific one being most important for each class... 'subjagation' for enchanters, 'disruption' for necromancers / wizards / warlocks, 'ministration' for healing classes, etc.

I know! I know! (raises hand)

Subjugation affects the fizzle rate of your root and pet casting spells. The higher your skill, the less you fizzle. That's from a lot of experience with keeping my skills at max at each new combat level.

Roots and stuns being our examples where that comes into play, though summoning our pets also falls under subjugation (we force them into our service).

Biggest times you'll notice how Subjugation works is in low levels, when trying to root mobs to split encounters or whatnot. Subjugation, in my experience, hates to skill up on our t1 root (Chain), and won't really start moving until 19 when we get Enchain. Net result is that from say, level 10 to 18, attempts to root t2 mobs results in -Resisted!- a hell of a lot more often than we want. Our stuns, which also have the disadvantage of being generally easy to resist anyway, will feel the sting when Subjugation skills are significantly below max for your level as well.

Fizzles can be annoying. Resisted roots can be fatal. Capped Subjugation reduces or largely eliminates both. That was always my breakdown.

I keep my subjugation max'ed at every level. I agree that root spells don't do a good job at raising that skill. However, there is a better spell to do that for us. Casting your pet creation spell repeatedly will also raise your subjugation! That's how I do it on my Necromancer, Conjuror, and Illusionist. I stand in a safe place and keep recasting my pet while waiting for my favorite mob to spawn. At that time I'll cast my pet buffs before sending it back into battle.
