<DIV>Hi All,</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have a 32 Conj alt that I am thinking about betraying to the dark side. Just wanted to pick your brains (especially anyone that has done it) as to what the differences are between the two classes? Is there a particular advantage that one has over the other? Play style differences, areas of strength / weakness etc.. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I personally find the look of the Necro and its pets alot more interesting than the Conj, but I want to base my decision on more than just aesthetics. So anything that you think is relevant and might help me decide I would love to hear about!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>And perhaps the most important question, would you do it if you had a Conj?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thanks!</DIV>

I've never played a conjurer but my guild has a few.  I play a 44 necro much of the time (49 templar also).  The big difference between a conjurer and a necro is this - conjurers have superior area of effect damage over time (AoE DOT) spells.  Necromancers have superior single target DOT spells.  Another difference is that conjurers can buff pet damage mitigation whereas necro pets have lifetaps.  Conjurers are elemental/arcane based casters and necromancers are disease/poison based casters. <DIV>With the references out of the way this post will focus on my opinions:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Having played both I do not think one class is better than the other. </DIV> <DIV>Overall both classes are fun, well balanced and very capable.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>That said I found that I enjoyed the necro more, not because it is more powerful but the playstyle suited me better.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So instead of trying to compare (which would likely start a necro vs conj flame war) I will instead list why I like the necro:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1) Looks (of course)!</DIV> <DIV>2) FD (good for letting pet get agro back or for bad pulls).</DIV> <DIV>3) Rez (not particularly useful solo but if you duo combined with FD this can be handy).</DIV> <DIV>4) Health Xfer (good for 2nd pet heal method or backup healing a groupmate).</DIV> <DIV>5) Fear (combined with root very effective for add control).</DIV> <DIV>6) Lifetaps (good for combating health xfer or lich drain).</DIV>

honestly i have both a conjie and an necro. given my conjie is only 32 and my necro is 70, i have to say playing hte conjie is like playing only half a class. the aoe's are nice, but it kills me not having lifetaps of any form. or lich of any kind for that matter. it just depends on gameplay, me personally i'm far more comfortable and happy with my necro than my conjie. but the conjie really ain't that bad.<div></div>

<DIV>I will try to give some helpful input on this as well.  I played a Necro for 70 levels in EQ1, and so when I tried it here on EQ2, it was a bit different than what I am used to, but still the same idea.  It's a good class, but a lot different than conjurer.  My wife plays a conjurer, and we're always comparing.  At level 24, we both have some pretty unique things.  She notices how I can single-target nuke for more, as well as play the "toggle health game" where I use my lifetaps/aoe lifetap to keep myself healed.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The thing she noted was her pet heal.  She took her Master II as her pet heal, and she can heal her tank pet for like 260hp for very little power.  I can only heal my undying aherant for 110 (master 2 choice early on) and that takes my own life to do...she also has insanely more pet control than I do.  Her stances do more, she has buffs and mitigation bonuses for her pet.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So when we play together, I just use my grim spellbinder, and have her put her tank pet in on the big damage mobs.  Her pet can withstand the hits with her healing, so we make an effective team.  With her pet management and Necro's DPS, it's actually quite fun.  Plus, the grim spellbinder heals her with his AoE lifetaps and such.  In the end, it comes down entirely to preference.  Some people enjoy being good and having tons of pet control.  Those are conjurers.  Necros definately require a lot more thinking and life/mana toggling.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Hope this helps you, good luck on what you decide.</DIV>

<P>I betrayed mainly for the aesthetics of the Necro vs the Conj.  I also love the disease/poison type dmg vs throwing dirt clods at mobs, lol.</P> <P>I'm happy with my betrayal at 43 and would do it again. (currently 47)</P>

I notice that most of the conj that betrayed did in in the low 50s or below.  There is 1 thing you missed that conj has which I would love on my necro, CoTH (call of the hero).  Basically this spell can be used as a reverse evac.  You can use it to teleport any groupmember to your spot.  IMO this spell is far more useful than necro rez.  Keep that in mind when you betray. <div></div>

<P>Well if you want a class that is always picked for groups - conj is it. CoTH is a MUST in end game content. It really sucks to have to give up a good camp and fight back the the entrance of a zone to pick up a new groupie - to find your camp snaked by another group by the time you get back. I would not give up my necro because I dont want to lose all my masters and adept III's - but then again if I find a good conj master pet before I find a necro master pet I will consider it.</P> <P> </P>
