Comming back to the blue server after tons of pvping and I'm trying to decide on a new class to play.I mainly want to get into raiding. so the character that I pick is going to be mainly dependant on that. I am stuck between necro and brigand. both have things that I like. The Necro has many different styles of play where the Brig has good debuffs and dps alike. The questons:1. How "Fun" are necros? Like, how enjoyable is it to play them.2. Group getting-- Is it easy?

how fun is it? well after 57 levels as a conjuror I betrayed and within a single day I am almost 59. I love playing again. I hated my conjuror since level 34 but continued to play because friends wanted me to play the class. As for groups......... Who needs them however today alone I did Tombs then Silent City then came out of that group and was insta invited to a roost group then PoF giants where we ended up going to a few instances simply because the giants were too easy. So far I have not had to look long at all where as a conjuror, i would sit for hours waiting because there are so many of them.As for Brigand, grouped with a few but never really see them other than in high end raiding guilds. /shrugNecro for the Win!

For me, the main thing about the necro that I dislike is the lack of safefall...it's probably the dumbest thing that could stop someone from playing a class. After getting a monk to near 70, I have killed myself at least 3 times not having it.

I wouldn't trade my necro for anything, it is a very fun class to play, and the beauty is you don't HAVE to have a group to get xp. As far as groups/raids, necro's are much more common than brig's. They are both utility classes and can be a great asset to any group/raid. Play what you are confortable with, and if you are worried about safefall, before jumping off of a cliff, toss your pet off first and make sure you land on him. Tend's to be a good cushion

My thoughts on Necromancer as it is my Main class that I play.

When it comes to having an independent class, a class that seldom requires assistance while solo, a class that can revive, heal, DPS, Feign death and overall pwnage in terms of sustained damage my necro is ideal in this case. I'm a raider as well but do not raid as some of the high end necro's on my server nor that I want to. From what I've seen so far parse wise I come out on top via sustained dps whether it's single or grouped encounter.

The second on the list is our Brigand who knows how to play his class very well. The brigands debuff is top notch and damage is likewise. Both of us come really close to topping each other off in damage during raids and grouped encounters and I must say that either class you pick you will enjoy immensely. I cannot comment much on brigands as I have never played one past lvl 30 but from what I have seen Brigands can dish out lots of damage in a short amount of time and not mention the stifles and stuns and infinite number of debuffs and finishing strikes.

Both are solid classes that you're considering and either you pick I'm quite confident you will enjoy them equally. In my humble opinion however (a biases opinion) necromancer is top notch class to play.

Everyone will be biased to necros in this forum But im sure you will like crowd control and dots.

I play both, although they are not overly high level. One thing I can say for sure, there are many more necros than brigs, on blue servers at least. That may not mean much, but it does mean it is harder to find gear and spells for the necro. And if you do find what you want, it is usually much more expensive for gear and spells for the necro than it would be for the brig.

I have a level 70 Brigand, and a level 20-...something Necro (I was just playing him yesterday, no idea why I forgot his level).

The Brigand is over a year old, made him back in January/February of last year. As far as that class goes, it's a great class. Doesn't have terrible trouble soloing, though certainly not the best. Groups might be hard to find from time to time, because some people have not had the honor of grouping with a truly skilled Brigand, and therefore do not know all that much about them (last I checked, Brigands were the least populated class in the entire game, 2nd was Coercer, most popular was Wiz), but generally I've had no trouble there (although, once or twice, I've been lfg for a few hours with nothing much to do). I've never had someone tell me "no" when I asked to join a raid (99/100 of those were with my guild, but generally, the raids love Brigands, it would seem).

As far as the necromancer goes, I see them in raids alot, they have some good utilities for them. The first thing I noticed was they are MUCH more adept at soloing. Now, my brig was never that bad at it, but I generally don't die with my necro unless I pull 3 or 4 groups at once and/or forget to heal my pet. Being that I'm at such a low level on that character still, I have not had that much experience in the raid part, and have solod most of the way so far, and so have not really bothered with the grouping thing that much (called in a friend to help with AQs, and that's about it).

So, it boils down to personal preference. Do you want to be a disease inducing Necromancer whose true strength is his undead horde. Or do you want to be a chain-wearing deceitful Brigand who uses a foes weaknesses to his advantage (various mitigation debuffs)?

Message Edited by Lingsch on 07-11-2006 04:58 PM
Seriously, you have chosen wisely, I have brout every single class to at least lvl 30 (except good only ones..I tried but I just cannot live in Q) and in my opinio Necro and brig are THE two most fun classes to play, neither are gods but with their combo of damage and utility I think they hit the midpoint of being the heavy hitting jack-of-all-trades. Many classes are fun, Coercers are suprisingly fun and difficult, as are some of the other classes but it is my opinion that the necro and brigand strike the abslute perfect middle ground of dishing out damage and doing things that still bring out a "wow that was neat" effect from others. either way you go I think you will enjoy

Let me preach for my church saying that so far I have only read good comments on the Brigand

I love my brig......really......you have everything needed in that class to succeed

But then again my friend plays a Necro and swears he has the best class in the game

I like better being in the action than having someone doing it for me....

Create both!

I have a 70 Necro as my main that I have been playing from day 1 and am leveling a Brig right now, which is 50. Necro and Brig have very good dps. Necro you will get a little more damage. Necro has some nice utility that the Brig does not. The Brig will get you into the raid every single time. Brigs are one of the least played classes and hard to find sometimes in raiding guilds. With the Necro you will most likely get into the raid everytime due to the good dps we produce, but if you want a sure place in the raid Brig is the way to go.

Fun both are very fun but I can do alot more with a Necro. If you like to solo or solo Nameds Necro is the way to go. Brigs will be slightly more expensive, you need food, drink, rare stones for gear and weapons and poisons. Necros you only need food once you get Lich, and roots are cheap for gear.

At low levels grouping is always hard. When you get to 50 you will have a little easier time. Both will get you groups but more people know what Necro's can do more than Brigs so I see getting groups easier with a Necro.

You really won't get a feel for the Necro till you are about 35 with the Brig at earlier levels it will be easier to tell if you like it.

Wow--what a choice. My main is a 53 Brig, and my alt a 50 Necro. 'Both have huge utility as well as damage potential. I have to say the Brig squeaks by for me though. I just love having tracking and evac. FD is really good in a pinch, but i have to go Brig--better armor, and better Dmg for me. I can live without FD, but really hate it without evac. (no im not on a PVP server)
