I am a new necro, only lvl. 17, but have played a warlock up to lvl. 46.This morning I had my first grouping experience in the Wailing Caves. We had an 18 bruiser, 17 shadowknight, 18 coercer and 17 defiler. This experience made me realize that I need a lot of help as far as effectively playing a necro goes.1. How soon should we send in our pet to assist the MT?2. What do we do when our pet steals the aggro from the MT?3. Does spamming heals on our pets draw hate while in a group?4. Does spamming our damage over times really generate that much hate while in a group?Needless to say, I died many times over the course of our adventuring. I am hoping the answers to these questions will help my survivability. Thanks for your time.
<DIV>1, After about 4-5 seconds of tank engaging mob (but then it all depends on tanks level of skill in his taunts)</DIV> <DIV>2, Dependning on the pet u are using tbh, if u are using warlock pet (then its further back, the mob will be running towards u, so u need to shout "aggro on pet/me" and back pet off but at the same time move in closer to the tank/s so they are able to re establish agro, u can try stuns/roots etc as well but as most tanks taunts are only effective close up to the mob, telling the tank first is main priority and getting close enough to tank so they can get it back, assassan pets are the same although its alot closer to the tank and will last longer if aggroed but explaining pet/you have aggro to the group is main thing)</DIV> <DIV>3, yes and no, it depends on number 2, if your pet is drawing alot of aggro in the first place, then healing him alot will draw aggro to u, the same as it would if it was just you and a healer grouped who was healing the pet non stop, the healer would draw aggro alot as well</DIV> <DIV>4, lol hell yes, necros might not nuke as hard as wiz/warlocks but our d.o.t's do have a habbit of building up and add a couple of our nukes on top and the mob can be real [Removed for Content] at us.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>But one thing is for sure, u had 2 classes that can taunt in a group, if at any time the sk had lost aggro and was unable to rescue (not sure of level before any say u cant at 17) the brusier should have been able to grab aggro back from the main tank (that is to say that the sk was the main tank and not the bruiser)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>No doubt others wil comment on this, which wil help but pretty much my expereance at that level is "carefull what u wish for, as u might just get it" <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

Only time I've stole aggro from the MT was when I used my lifetap/group lifetap and master strikes. One tip I'd like to throw out there when playing with a mezzer is set your pet to neutral (/pet back off). Makes life easier for you and the whole group.<div></div>

FTL - You wouldn't happen to be the same Elgar I ran with in Diablo II, would you?

Thanks for the info. I grouped again last night and by using the tips that you gave, I managed to make a 180 degree turnaround in how I benefited the group. I just hit 20 and haven't gotten a chance to try out the grim spellcaster. Any tips on how he will differ from the spider?Talieris Grimm20th Season Cloak of MacabreLucan D'Lere

Grim Spellbinder is a dps warlock pet, it will draw less immediate agro because it doesnt have taunt skills, the reason you were agroing a lot at lvl17 was perhaps your pet out agroing the sk. Dont send your spellbinder in too early, because if it starts with an AE will probably get agro before the tank, and that means pet dead and you dead. As a reference, as soon as the fight starts, cast your Locusts line ( an AE dot), when its about to land you can send in your grimmy.<div></div>

Sounds cool. Are there any resources on the web that have detailed information about our pets, specifically what spells and skills they cast?
