Right-o.... Off the top of my head I believe your first AE life tap is lvl 16 and your first true targeted lifetap is lvl 20. That being said, that line will become your main DD weapon. At lvl 70 it does some 1600+ damage and heals you for 600 odd. Snare/root/fear is a bone of contention. I also had an end game necro in EQ1 and loved fear kiting. Unfortunately, the powers that be (in their infinate wisdom) have decided it was too much fun and therefor banned it from EQ2. As such, we now use these for crowd control. If an add gets loose, fear it and root it safely away until ready to deal with it. Add snare to the mix and you can use ur "big" nuke to play wizzy style on mobs that will eat ur pet. The nuke will usually break either the snare or the root, but only occasionally both together (in which case u cast fear). Refresh snare/root as required and nuke away. Pets cannot be equipped as per EQ1. Period. You get a selection of specific pet buffs, and pets can be buffed with all mannor of player buffs too.... but no equipment of any kind. Some of the animations have pets holding weapons that correspond to their damage type. DoT's are an issue that need looked at. Some last up to 36 seconds, but most are shorter duration. Shortest DoT is 4 seconds, some are 12, and up to 36. However... I often ignore them. They don't do much damage over shorter fights, and don't last long enough over long fights. You can get higher damage out put by not casting them at all! (nice one SOE). Spam casting your 4 second DoT and your life tap DD, in conjunction with ur dumbfire pets and you can largely ignore the 3 main DoT's. (obviously some exceptions apply) There are no splurt spells as of yet. (shame) Heroic mobs were never meant to be soloed. Having said that, they can be. And can be soloed well. Depends on the person behind the necro to a great extent, and their level of spells /equipment. Post LU24 things are likely to change, but as of this post I have soloed up to 70^^^Heroic mobs. Keep in mind that not all /con are even and one ^^^70 may be alot easier than another ^^^67. If the /con system seems confusing, don't worry 'bout it, its lame, and was always a dumb concept, but u get used to it, inaccuracy and all.

Example 30 damage initially and 25 damage every 6 seconds for 1.5 min! There are very few true dot spells in the same way that you remember them from eq. We are much more pet-dependant these days in the same way as you would never see a magician without one. Here we also have what we call dumbfire pets which are one-shot pets which terminate when your target encounter dies. You'll get your first one of these types at level 23 and they are infact a mix of a dot and a pet depending how you look at it.Thanks for the newbi questions but I need to know these things because im used to another way of playing and I need to modify my play style on this game.
No worries, it’s very different from the necro you remember but don't be put off because in higher levels you do get much of that control and survivability you remember back. Not the same though so avoid drawing too many comparisons and just enjoy. ^0^0^

Message Edited by Uanelven on 06-02-2006 07:09 AM

Main nuke is a DD Life tap. You also get Lich (in the 50's) that taps mob life with every disease based offensive spell cast.
