They say that necros are one of the big DPS classes in the game.   I am currently 70 and have all Adept III's but im still really low on the parser when someone uses it.  I think I am throwing everything I have at the mob.  What strategies can I use to maximize my damage as far as what order to use spells in an encounter?<div></div>

Depends on the mob, but assuming a fight that isn't all over in 10 seconds flat then start with scout pet and consumption, then dumbfires (pigs and awaken grave).  Cast the long DoT deathly coil to get it ticking then alternate cycle through your burst dps spells, abate life, death rot and that nuke from splitpaw (can't remember the name). The fast DoT deathrot recycles so fast you can cast it between every other spell if you want. If it is safe to do so, the PBAE infernal cloud can add a little extra.  Throw in torrential pestilance vs groups. Don't forget undead tide every 15 mins for a big boost (i save it for big fights) and also you can macro all your master strike spells into one hot button so 1 click will attempt to cast all of them till it finds one that works. This was a rush post, and I'm sure to have forgotten something, but it's a start. <div></div>

<DIV>There are several things to remember if you want to come out tops in the parser.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1.  Name your pets after yourself.  They are yours and would not be there if you were not so they can be considered your DPS.  If you do not change their name then most parsers these days will classify them as a seperate entity with their own DPS instead of yours. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>2.  Remember what DoT stands for.....(Damage Over Time).  Stack everything you have.  I start out with sending my pet in....then cast dumbfires (pigga's and zombie), then move onto Deathly Coil, Swarm of Bats (has a nifty defense debuff to for kicks), Torrential Plague (on every encounter if time permits), DoT DD (ferget the name at the moment), and Siphon.  Then keep on a cycling them all as they pop.  If you need to debuff stick that in the rotation just after you send in yer pet.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>3.  Make sure you have a good tank who can keep agro.  I have been known to pull agro on raids doing this cause I start casting ASAP and do NOT stop for the duration of a fight.  The reason I do not stop has to do with one of our best spells.  Lich and Archlich.  On every disease based spell it procs....this is a tiny DD everytime you cast cept when you refresh Swarm of Bats and a tiny heal as well to help offset the HP consumption from Lich/Archlich (although the constant Lifetaping is much better for the heals).  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The basic premise here is to keep all your DoT's running for the maximum amount of time.  From there you can spike your DPS a bit by using Consumption, our PBAoE spell, and the Drawing of Souls special spells when they are up.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>To keep up your power on the long fights always make sure you give yourself a Heart (and use it all the time!!  you do not have to ask anyone for it when it runs out <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> )  and spam your power siphon spell (your pet prolly does not need those HP's as much as you need the power).  If you still find yourself running OOP drop a spell or two from the rotation (like Torrential Plague which needs to be recast every 12seconds) and that will help too.   </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Remember though that on raids a Necro's job is not pure DPS (although it is a large part of our job)  we also rez and can even spot heal (a fraction).  Necro rez has the longest range of any of them and that comes in REALLY handy for a speedy rez to the shaman who got the smack down on the pull or for the chanter who is on mez duty and got a resist at the wrong time.  We can also throw a heal to a needy caster or even give that xtra few HP's to keep the MT alive till the next priest heal lands a second later then it was REALLY needed.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I assume all this is well known though....the biggest thing to remember to get up there in DPS on a parser is to name your pet after yourself so it shows up as you on the parser and gets added to your DPS totals.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>GL chasing the top spots on the parser.   As of LU24 it will be even more of a challenge if that is your goal.  Just remember that the parser is not the end all be all gauge of what we do and depending on who is running it it can put out differant results for the same fight (IE a caster running it will not get close enough to get all the dmg so the totals will be off.)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Zonoma, 70 Necromancer</DIV> <DIV>Proud member of Sovereign</DIV> <DIV>Crushbone</DIV>

<P>I am only level 56, but the best thing I can recommend is to download Advanced Combat Tracker (ACT) and use it. In addition to having a handy parser that tracks group DPS - it also tracks detailed data that can really let you see what damage your spells do. You would probably be surprised at how little DPS your major DOTs do in a group setting. On single targets, after I send in the scout I hit life-tap, blighted dumfires, skinrot, master-nuke (if applicable), life-tap, skinrot - then I just concentrate on casting skinrot. Only on really tough singles do I even waste the time to cast the other long term dots.</P> <P>On multiples - I send in the scout, hit the group AE plague line dot, fire off the PBAE breath spell, send in the stench dumfire on the biggest mob in the group, then spam skinrot and lifetap and throw in other dots if I have time between. I keep my pet on a number key so I can send it in to assist immediately when the tank switches targets. Once the small mobs in the group are gone I will throw the blighted dumfires on anything that still needs killing.</P> <P>In pickup groups my pet is usually no 1 or 2 in the parses (master assassin) on single targets, with me throwing in some decent DPS as well that usually brings me to the top of the chart. Against groups I can out DPS my pet - but all of my major damage spells are master 1 or better. I have not bothered to upgrade my slow DOTs past adept 1.</P> <P> </P> <P> </P>

Items and spells that give you procs will greatly help increase your dps. Mark of the awakend intelect will help too.  some items that proc that are really nice to have are, Mystical Orb of the Invoker, Bone-clasped Girdle, Grizzfazzle's Walking Stick.  I'm sure there are many more out there, but these are the ones i have at the moment and they tend to help out alot on the dps.<div></div>

I actually made a thread the other day that you may want to take a look at. It deals with a lot of what the others here suggested and then some. It's titled "becoming a better necro". There are also a lot of other good threads about it as well if you look past all the nerf talk : P

<DIV>The first thing i have got to ask is this,</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1, Are you testing your dps on normal mobs in groups or is this in raids?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>2, if it is groups you are in, then you will never end up the top dps when it comes to short term fights (unless they are named)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>3, Depending what level you have in your spells WILL make a difference, just like noticing a tank who has all his taunts at app1, "he wont hold the aggro" you will not get good dps if all your spells are very low.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>4, People moan alot about the nerfs that are happening on our pets, but depending on the mob you are fighting depends on the pet you use, for instance, if a mob is known to use a "AE" attack then you should certainly not be using you scout pet, (unless its times and u can withdraw it) as he might have more hits than the mage pet and a better defence but his resists will never be as good as a players, and u can keep your mage pet far enough back to avoid it but still do a very good amount of dps (its all about tactics there) hence why those who feel they need to use the scout pet on raids in my oppionion are mad, as alot of epic mobs have some form of KB or AE attack. (you cant get any dps from a pet if its dead people)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>5, The main thing in this game is to have fun, as long as ytou are having fun, who cares weather you are the top dps, remember we were never meant to be the top dps (those necros who think we were, need to get over that and fast)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>6, As for renaming your pet as someone said you should, to make sure its the same as yours is, in my opionion is just pointless, its just like renaming the biggest atomic bomb on the planet after you, lol why? that is something to do [Removed for Content] power gaming in my eyes as i have stated before, if your pet is a good enough and u know how to use "the aggro management skill", he deserves his own name, so people know who he is. (the devil never named himself "joe bloggs did he?")</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>7, You are better to wait till after lu 24 to see how we fair then tbh, but the short term answer is this and its fact. Long term fights we own most, short term fights dont even bother getting out all your pets as its a waste of clicking your finger (those necros who feel they need to try and compete with a wiz/warlock in a short term fight lol u need help ) lich/archlich is the key so long term fights ftw.</DIV><p>Message Edited by FTL on <span class=date_text>05-20-2006</span> <span class=time_text>03:41 PM</span>

<P>hehe I agree with you Elgarr about naming the pet after yourself.  I do it however because I like to compete with others in my guild for DPS (regardless of where I actually land on the parse).  So I name my pet after myself when I raid.  </P> <P>The initial question though was about how to get yer numbers up on the parser...and making sure you name your pet after yourself is one way to do so.   </P> <P> </P> <P>Friendly competition never hurts!! Hehe I am always competing for DPS with the other Summoners in my guild because it is fun!!   Long fights I ussually pull out on top....and the short ones I am way at the bottom where I expect to be but that does not stop me from tryin!!</P> <P> </P> <P>Zonoma</P> <P> </P>

Thanks</P><P> </P><P> </P><hr></blockquote>Nice overreaction there. Adding pet name + necro name or having a pet named after the owner wont change the dps output being what it is, people name the pets after themselves to make it easier to read quickly. The most unfortunate thing about this change will be that it makes necro masters even more wanted by those that stick with the profession as it will buff them back up a bit closer to what a standard necro is now.
