Hey all. I was wondering when it's best to use Lich. I am probably not using it correctly and find it's no help to me.I'd like everyones input on how to best use this ability. Thanks!

All the time.Only ever turn it off if you FD in combat with little health left or if you take a beating and want to regen a bit quicker. It isnt really a situational buff, the power regen is always good and in solo or group play ive never had an issue with leaving lich on permanantly.

I kept it on when I first picked it up but found after taking that beating that it really didn't seem to worktoo well for me. Now I have an idea. Thanks! :smileyvery-happy:

The main thing to keep an eye on is that you are using spells that lich can proc from, if not then your health will drop. Lifetaps are good for topping yourself up but all your dots etc will give little boosts to counteract the health drain. Once you get used to it youll miss the effect if you ever switch it off.

Always on. In order to keep your health up you will sometimes need to re-cast spells, even if they haven't died on the mob. Casting quick spells like the Darkness ones helps a lot too.

Good food helps between fights too, level 60-70. I found the lower food didn't keep my health at max.

I also only turn it off when I FD.

Only time I turn it off is when fighting disease immune epics like Fist and whatnot.

Actually, I keep liche off when I do solo quests. Usually keeping it on just drains HP fr no reason, and when I'm in combat my pets mow stuff down so fast I barely get off a lifetap, so I end up loosing HPts for no reason.

I basically always have it on. Hell, I never even use drink anymore because my power regen is so high. As for lich's HP cost, my natural regen when out of combat is higher than lich's HP cost and during combat, the life taps make the HP drain a non-issue.

Cogito Midgetlich

70th Necromancer Guk

no doubt lich is awesome and i keep it on constantly. i do however have a question regarding lich for some of you more seasoned necros. what character trait do you recommend getting to augment lich? i currently have both power regens. i have no problems with power ever. in fact i feel like i have too much power. in groups it looks like im not casting anything cuz my power is almost always near full. i like the never ending power there but im wondering if health regen would be a better option. help offset the health drain while in combat. i would consider the increased health or power pools but after doing some math i feel the regens are a much better option. its just deciding which one is ultimately more useful. anyone?

I haven't regretted it. Though, I also don't personally think that any of those trait choices are make-or-break, not in the least. They're smaller, more subtle bonuses. Nothing that ruins you if you chose the wrong one.

I kinda look at the power and health regen ideas from different standpoints.

Power:
Whereas it's true that in groups I rarely run low on power - far from it - on really long fights such as raids, I do use up power over the long haul. Having another source of in-combat power regen never hurts, though no one element of in-combat regen is make or break either. It all adds up - have a lot of FT items, that trait isn't all that important on its own. Or vice versa. If you've been in a long enough fight to actually drain out your power, it's already going to be rough whether you took that trait or not.

Health:
There are in-combat health regen items in game too, though perhaps not as many of them as there are Flowing Thought items. As necromancers, our health pools are important not just for staying alive, but we also use that health. The pool is, in a way, like another form of power pool for us - a tool to be used. So, added in-combat health regen is just as nice as power regen in that sense. Though we also have a much more powerful tool for health replenishment, the lifetap, so long as we're in a position to use it as much as we need to without peeling aggro, and having real health pool issues. Remember too, that Lich procs heals back to us when we cast most of our offensive spells, so it's taking care of itself. Any time you're taking real damage, it's not in-combat health regen that's going to save you, it's lifetaps or direct heals.

Could argue / discuss it back and forth for a good long time, but I'm still pretty confident that trait choices aren't worth really sweating over.

How that all relates to Lich depleting our health gradually? As has been said, eating tier appropriate food will offset the Lich costs while out of combat. But in combat...

I like to take the RP approach - kind of a fun way to think about it. Lich drains our health, but procs health back if we cast (most of) our offensive spells. Lich... compels... us to cause harm! If we don't cause harm to our enemy, it will be our life that drains away! We must keep sapping the very life essence of the enemy, at all times, to survive!

That, to me, is Lich. Very Necromancer. Very.... eeee-vil.

i never take it off, it won't eat you alive out of cambat (tick down then right back to 100%) and it shouldn't eat you alive in combat because you should be dropping life tap and constantly casting so should be getting enough to make up for its cost with just its procs alone not to mention lifetap spells. only time i don't use it is if i am trying to train by some mobs other than that it is always up.
