I assume you mean pull one mob away from another mob that is not in the same encounter. Two tricks I've heard of that work: Body pulling (set your pet in /backoff mode, get in proximity aggro range of one and not the other, and lead it back towards your pulling spot), or Root splitting.

Likely not. Odds are you're gonna have to kill the adds before you can get to the named.

Well, if you have enough room, here's a tip that works for me: Put pet in back off mode and then cast a DoT on the mob you want to fight. When your mob and the adds come, simply just run away. You'll notice that the adds ( which you didn't damage) will unagro you at more than half the distance it takes before the mob that you DoT'd would. so if you run far enough away (which isnt too far), you can single your mob with much ease. This is given that they are not in the same encounter.

I used to do that trick too, and in fact I totally forgot about it, so thanks for the reminder. It works best if you are facing away from the mob you're pulling when you cast (that way you don't have to take time turning), and you cast at the absolute maximum range your spell will reach.

No, you do not need to spam back off. Once you trigger Back Off, it stays in that state until commanded otherwise.

Yep. The reason your pet doesn't always run back immediately seems to be that mobs are using abilities correctly now. A lot of the time, your pet gets stunned/rooted by the mob with the first attack, and have to wait for that to wear off before they return.

If you want to fight a named that is surrounded by social mobs without clearing the easiest way is to cast a spell on the named, tell your pet to attack, and as soon as your pet is engaged hit feign death. The social mobs will go back to their posts and your pet will keep the named mob in combat. Then just stand up and kill him. Just make sure you put your pet in non-aggrssive mode or back him off and re-attack the named during the fight else after killing the named he'll go after anything else that hit you or him. It burns FD but works like a charm so if you are just trying to get a named for a quest or something then it's the easy way to do it.

pet back off, snare the named, run, then come back when the adds are done chasing you

Another method of pulling is by using a de-buff on the mob. Drawing of Souls, are great because it slows the mob but does not create too much aggro for your pet to overcome. Also the bats are great for pulling also.I use this method a lot in some of the Instance zones.
