<div>So I just hit 20 and I got my grim spellbinder... I find that he can't tank for crap... If I try and tank, I meet the same fate as him (quick death).</div><div> </div><div>Anyone have any tips on a playstyle with this thing? With my previous pet, I sent him in to tank while I sat back and AOE/DOT the bad guys to death...</div><div> </div><div>Also, should I be using the "Aggression" buff on the grim? or something different?</div><div> </div><div>Please help, I love playing my necro, but I am very confused about this new pet. Thanks!</div><div> </div><div> </div>

<div></div><p>The Grim Spellbinder is a caster pet.  You get your new tank pet at level 24, which is called Undying Adherent.</p><p> </p><p>Elaiza</p><p>61 Bruiser</p>

<div>Thanks for the info... what strategy do you recommend for soloing with Grim? should I let him tank still? or do i need to get +sta gear so i can tank for him?</div>

<div>I'd recommend not soloing with a mage pet.  Mage pets are generally used for groups who are going against grouped encounters.  Just use your other pet until you get your new tank at 24.</div>

<div>Dont solo with the lvl 20 pet at all.</div><div>That pet is one that you want to use when you are grouped.</div><div> </div><div>It is a high DPS VERY low Defense/HP pet. So it can't really take hits at all.</div><div> </div><div>So, stick with your other pet when you solo until it is upgraded at lvl 24 then start soloing with that one.</div><div> </div><div>(Summoners have 3 pet types.</div><div>1) Tank pet... it taunts, high HP, good for soloing, dont use in groups that have a tank already</div><div>2) Mage pet... really high DPS, very low HPs, does good AOE damage.  Only used in groups.</div><div>3) Scout pet... really good single target DPS, low HPs compared to tank pet, but a lot more then mage pet.  Usually used only in groups too. but, you can solo with this one well if you practice.  You dont get this pet until lvl 32 I believe though)</div>

Old pets continue scaling in level until the level of their replacement. So your old tank pet is still what you want to use while soloing, and should only be replaced when you get the higher-level version, as the lower one won't keep getting higher in level, and thus be a worse tank (higher-lvl pets also have more abilities than lower-lvl ones).Your warlock and later, assassin, pets are only for grouping. You can get some mileage out of both of them in specific solo situations, but in most of them, the tank is just better.

<div>Thanks for all the great advice everyone, I learned quite a few things about pets here <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> I will just continue to use my other pet until lvl 24 when I get a new tank pet.</div><div> </div><div>(PS, how do most of you play? when soloing do you usually exclusively use your tank pet? does it vary? I understand why I would want to use my caster pet in groups and stuff... but I am just asking about soloing for now.)</div>

<div></div><p>Well along the same lines, I just turned 38 and my neqw "tank pet" Rotting thrall cant hold aggro on linked mobs. I've been fighting in Feerrott for the last level and a half fighting the Huuptic's on the beach, and my Undying Adherent was much better at keeping agro on the mobs.  With the UA pet when i would fight the linked mobs after he kills one,the other mobs would still hit him. Now that im 38 and Rt pet fighting same mobs after he kills one the others rush at me and forget about him. Not sure if this is how SOE wants it but is really disappointing to me. Had more fun  fighting at level 37, now takes to much down time to heal and stuff.</p>

<div></div><p>You can solve that by tabbing your pet onto the others at the start.  Send him in to attack one of them.  Shortly after he starts beating on it, tab to the next, and have him attack it.  A few hits later, tab him onto the 3rd, and leave him there til it's dead.  Not only will the other 2 stay on him, you won't even have to tell your pet to attack them, since he still has those attack orders on his 'to do list'.</p><p>And another thing I'm left wondering.. is your RT spell upgraded?  Adept 3 RT holds agro alot better than Ap 1 hehe.</p>

<div></div><p>Thank you for the tip, using it now and works well.</p><p> </p><p>On another question does the Ghastly Stench pet cast an AE spell that gets attributed to me on the hate list?..t seems when I use that spell in a situation with more than one mob thats when I get the most agro from the other mobs.</p><p> </p><p>Thank you in advance</p><p> </p>

<div>The Ghastly Stench spell / dumbfire pet does ONLY aoe damage!  I believe it actualy says that on the spell description.  It's also the same for the new versions of the spell  you get later.</div>
