Hey all.I recently made the big change from WoW to EQ because I was dissatisfied with the way Blizzard was handling their overpopulation issues, as well as not liking the direction the game was taking.Anyway, I was reading about the different classes available to me, and I wanted to go with either a Shadowknight or a Necromancer. Both classes appeal to me--mainly due to the pet aspect of them. For anyone who has played WoW, is the Necro anything like the Warlock class? I enjoyed playing my 'lock very much on WoW.I've read just about every post in this forum about the general play of the Necro I could find, but am still having trouble with my decision.Any help would be VERY appreciated. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />P.S., Im asking this question around the SK forums too, just to get their opinion as well.<div></div>

SK's in eq2 get dumb pets so if you want a pet class the answer is quite obvious. And yes the necro is very close to the lock in WOW.<div></div>
I agree. You do not want a Shadowknight if you want a pet class, as they are not a pet class. They get silly little dumbfires, and that's it.<div></div>

Necromancers (and their good-counterparts Conjurors) are the only pet classes in EQ2. The rest are all imitations.

Having previously had a 60 Warlock in WoW (I killed Rag, and we'd nearly finished BWL when I quit), and having a 55 and rising Necro in EQ2, I think I can answer this question: You'll love the necro one HELLUVA lot more.Basically our tank pet here can ACTUALLY keep agro without you having to restrain yourself, unlike the big blue blob of WoW. Our DPS pets aren't complete paper, as our assassin pet is much more relative dmg, AND more beefy against damage than the succubus (I was even a demonologist for a time, and still wasn't that great with succubus), with our warlock pet here kicking the crap out of whatever the Imp did in WoW since it doesn't get spanked back in one hit from a monster's AE.Now that I think of it, take the infernal, give it an ACTUAL taunt, knockdowns, and group taunts, and that's PRETTY CLOSE to what our normal tank pet does in EQ2. The assassin is just massive DPS to single targets with some durability (though not like tank pet), and the warlock is a bump below that in HPs, but has AE damage that's amazing, and single-target that's not too shabby either (though below the assassin). Our combat style is more than "curse, couple of DoTs, and shadowbolt over and over." While I'll be the first to admit that's hardly all there was to a 'lock in WoW, the necro is MUCH more flexible. Root, snare, stun, fear, healing others through life transfers, and MUCH more effective ways of stealing health from the monsters (not Life Drain and that 21-pt affliction talent): you can actually recover 15%+ of your health in one shot in EQ2.Basically take how well a hunter's pet tanks and DPSs in WoW (I played one too, and their pets were WAY better than 'lock's pets), and give that to a 'lock, and give them some extra abilities too, and you've got an EQ2 necromancer. About all we don't have is as big a "boom" as shadowbolts COULD get in WoW, though Siphon Life is pretty close, and combined with other abilities, burst is WAY higher than it was at any point in WoW.You'll like it. If nothing else, you'll see just how awesome a pet can be as a partner, and not just a mana battery or a dispellable shield.

Awesome. Thanks to everyone who replied. The EQ community is a lot more helpful than the "lrn2play"ers in the WoW forums.I think Im going to go with the Necro, simply because I enjoyed being a minority in Wow (there wern't that many 'locks around), and a tank class really doesn't appeal to me (I initially had thought of the SK as a warrior/mage hybrid, similar to the Shaman in Wow). Thanks again for everyone's help! I think I'm going to really enjoy this game more.<div></div>

Good luck. And in addition to this forum for advice/info, also try <a href="http://eq2.eqsummoners.com" target="_blank">eq2.eqsummoners.com</a>. It's somewhat conjuror-heavy, being originally an offshoot of a magician forum from eq1, but there's enough of us necros to keep them "in-line", and everything there is more up-to-date than just about anything else on the 'net for issues for both classes.
