View Full Version : Pet Configuration Options: A must have!

Here is an idea I would like to propose. With the pets new abilities and all, it would be nice if you could add a pre pet configuration menu to let us Enable/Disable pet abilities they can use. This would be must useful in raids or group exping. Here is a good example. Fear could cause a mob to run off and you pet to follow causing your pet to train more mobs. If you could disable this ability in advance it would help greatly. Another idea would be to give each pet a set of 10 abilities. When using your "Pet Configuration Menu" you can only choose 5 abilities at a time of the 10. This could make for some interesting strategies. Well I wanted to throw this idea out there because I feel its very important and I am sure many would agree.
Message Edited by Zimike on 12-21-2005 07:07 AM

This is a great idea! I'm especially fond of having a list of abilities and allowing you to choose a certain number the pet would use. Would really add depth to the class. I've been playing my necro quite a bit since the pet fixes. This class is really coming around....now if they could just get those pathing issues fixed so we no longer find our mobs in walls.

/agree

This is a excellent idea!!! Especially the select 5 out of 10 abilities...

If this is even remotely possible , please, give this some consideration...

I would definately like to have more control over my pet. Enabling/Disabling abilities for certain fights like single or group target and then be able to set a range would be great. A lot of fights are ranged fight swhich would be great for the Warlock pet but they always want to run in. I don't run in. I'm a caster and stay ranged. My caster pet should do the same.

i want a seperate control window for our charmed pet.

Would definetly be nice to be able to park the mage pet now that she's useful, instead of watching her charge in when her spell timers are down.

Yeah, something along those lines. The only option I really want is to turn off the cackle if we ever get a spectre. I think any other customization would get us into dangerous territory: we'd be undoing the pet A.I. that allows a pet to do damage on its own terms, and very good damage at that, and entering a world of customizeable damage that would just BEG for nerfs from Sony. They really wouldn't be able to resist it, and I don't even know that they can now, if it does indeed turn out that the scout pet was nerfed in this latest update. I just thank my lucky stars that necromancers are so much better in EQ2 than they were in EQ1, and that's in large part to the DPS of our pets, not to mention the fact that now not all of our DoTs take two millennia to run their course, as they did in EQ1, which was probably the reason that we weren't very popular in groups. That was a mistake on their part, but it's true that our damage was slow.Anyway, I'm perfectly happy with leaving pets to their automated selves. More micromanaging would disturb the sleeping nerfbat that I'm sure would love to come crashing down on this class. And it did the last time around. Needless to say, I'm trying to get to 60 as quickly as possible before it happens. Being a necromancer has been a joy this time around.

This idea was debated once before. The dev response was basically the summoner class would have to give stuff up. They debated if we should have total control over our pets and no other spells or if we should have pets, no control over them but given other functions.

I prefer our current setup.

If you ever played a warlock in WoW.. they had some fairly nice pet controls. At time was a pain to have to manage it.. but the way it worked it gave you a lot more control which was good. You could tell it only cast certain spells when they are up, or only cast when I click the button.. like you could be using your fighter pet and tell it not to cast taunt if he wasn't tanking so you wouldn't have to worry about your pet accidently peeling.

We have a nice selection of pets and stances for handling different situations. They do a fine job of taking care of business without having to micro-manage them for every fight. ( That is, as long as the Necro knows his/her business)

I think Necromancers have it rather easy with how pets are. Would be very nice to have more options to give more depth into the class. To add to the idea of configurable options for pets, here is another good idea. Add one button that allows your pet to change weapons. Example if your scout pet is summoned you can click a button that makes the pet equip different weapons for different damage types.

For example this one button would act different for different pets:

[Mode Set] Button

Scout Pet: Change weapons

Mage Pet: Turn Off/On Ranged Attack Mode

Tank Pet: Turn Off/On Roam Mode

Just trying to be creative.

I see no need to make the class more complicated. I allready have enough to do on raids without having to think about what my pet is doing.

If you feel its too complicated already I suggest playing another class. I mean that in a nice context You would be much more useful to a raid if you could set your pets mood even while in combat. It would be no different then picking one nuke over another. I laugh at summoner classes at raids that just send in the pet then take a nap. lol

Sorry you make a remark like that and don't expect me to get annoyed? I know how to play my class and play it well. The diversity of the class is what I enjoy and that transfers to raids. I send in pet..yes..but then I dps on mob, check for rez's, pass out hearts as needed, ready with FD if its all going [Removed for Content]...... Adding some stupid bloody options to the pets will add nothing new to our class or our style of play but clutter things up. Pointless, pointless, pointless.

Having one button that would allow a set of optional settings hardly is Micro managing. I do not ply WoW or care too. But from what I hear Eq2 ripped a large amount of its ideas from WoW. You cannot tell it it would not be cool as hell if your Scout pet for example could change out its weapons like before?. Me I love hacing a set of custom options to make classes different and not a line to follow like a book just waiting to turn the page. And people who like everything simple and less complicated should play Arcade games if you ask me.. they are more to your liking.

I don't believe EQ2 has been ripping off WOW. I'm sure the EQ2 Dev team has at least a 2 - 5 year plan in place to implemement new content and featues. It was prolly a coin toss to see who would come out ahead first... WOW is in the lead but that could change within the next year after EQ2 rolls out the PVP servers. And PVP was in EQ2 plans from the begining... we will see. This game is like a tiny seed... it's growing and evolving and that's a good thing.

Zimike, I think your idea to add configurable pet options is an excellent idea!

Yeah, I use the "back off button" except I look like a [Removed for Content] when the mob follows my pet right back to me... and the whole group is standing over there saying [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn]?I'm just saying that having a little more control over what spells our pets use and when would be nice. When I hit "back off" it stays right there and doesn't run back behind me. The only problem is I sometimes forget to un-park it.
