View Full Version : Problem with Plague of Rats

Greetings everyone, It seems that the Plague of Rats "parasitic infestation" attack likes to target mobs outside of an encounter after today's patch. For instance, I just attacked a bear in EL, pulled it to Deputy Farweed, cast my rats, and within seconds one of the rats attacked Farweed. Is anyone aware if this is an intended change? Word from Lockeye is that this is an unintended change. Expect it to be fixed soon.

<P>Appearanty the whole line of rats does it now. I'm a lowbee and my swarm of rats just wiped me in Varsoons.</P> <P>Hope it's quick to get fixed, at this point it's still my best spell.</P>

<P>I'm really glad someone else noticed this too. I couldn't figure out why I was aggroing neutral ^^^ mobs as I was hunting near them in EF today. Had to use my Feign Death a few times before I realized what was happening!</P> <P>I hope this one gets fixed quickly!</P> <P> </P>

I was hoping they were fixing it with the mini update today but they havn't. It's a shame too, as my most used spell I know find I can't use it in many circumstances and its making me question whether Master II was a good choice for it now that its semi situational. <div></div>

One person has said it was an unintended change and I have not seen that said anywhere else, so unless you can link some proof that this indeed is not intentional then whats to say it won't be like this for some time to come. I say its situational because all pbaoe's ARE situational, whether or not its a great ability or not. I like to think if it was an unintentional change that they would fix it soon but I'm also not holding my breath and counting on a /respec some time in the future to change out this master II before I upgrade another for adept III.</span><div></div>

I personally had not noticed any problems with it until thinking back to a fight I had near the docks of Nektulos. Hopefully they either fix the problem or if they are changing it form a dumbfire to an area effect they post the changes and change the icon background color from red to green (encounter only aoe) or blue (open radius aoe).</DIV>
I wouldn't mind it so much if the pbaoe only triggered at the start, as it does already. I would just have to be more carefull when pulling and not use it in several circumstances. But what its doing for me atleast is the ability is triggering at different times during the fight, in turn agroing gray or passive mobs that just happen to wander by when they decide to use their pbaoe ability. Since the swarm lasts so long this is a hassle, having to keep an eye on anything walking near so I can cancel the swarm. <div></div>

still bugged as of today, rats agroed the whole room in Harclaves and got me killed, now i have to wait forever to try it again..... <div></div>

Any word from the Dev's yet on a fix? I searched and found this thread after I attracted the attention of a load of mobs in Fallen Gate, ooooh it hurt <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> thought they had made Swarm of Rats AoE in the last update, thank god i was wrong... <div></div>

It's fixed on Test. More than likely getting hotfixed on the December 5 update.

I'm not sure exactly what this means but AB server is down and so I checked the update notes and it says update for (oddly) December 6th 7am : ------------- <span class="headline">Update Notes :<i> 12/6/2005 7:00 aM</i></span> <p>*** Items ***- Certain creatures will no longer drop spells as often.*** Spells and Combat Arts ***- NPC spells that were previously intended to slow targets but instead sped them up will now work correctly.- Pets that were using water elemental, fire elemental, plague rat, and hyena creature abilities will no longer use them.</p> <p>-The EverQuest II Team</p> ------------- So does our swarm line fall under the "pets" category in that they will no longer use plague rat abilities? Which should fix our problem? <div></div><hr></blockquote>i think so ... i think what happenned is when they gave animals their own specific abilities, they gave rats an open AE, in altering the mobs, they unintentionally changed the necro swarm pets, which are probably based on the mobs ...</span><div></div>

I'll have to re-read the spell descriptor, but I can't for the life of me figure out why they would give a dumbfire spell creature a pbaoe ability, when my understanding of a dumbfire is that it is basically a DOT with a 'live component' or creature graphic, if you will. Lets hope whoever the brainchild behind that idea, gets a lobotomy. :smileywink:</DIV>
It seems to be fixed, I was using it to pull with out of large groups just to make sure and got no adds so it seems to be working fine now. <div></div>

It took several minutes of casting different spells to figure out that it was the rats. All of a sudden had swarms of turtles, ferries and badgers chasing me down. Was also glad there was no shard recovery, but the debt sucks.</DIV>
