I realize this isn't the Enchanter forums but I wanted a safe place to post to avoid instant-flames, and I /do/ play a Necro, but... Most of the class problems I've seen posted on the QA-forum and the general posting on their boards I can acknowledge and most cases agree with (priest solo dps for example) but the complaints with Illusionists I just don't understand. A buddy of mine plays his level 38 Illusionist and he's outstanding in any group make-up we have. Now maybe it's a case of the grass is greener (other class with a better breeze) but he has very useful utility, adds great DPS to the group (the melee and casting procs are isnane) and doesn't seem to have too many troubles with mezzing (although a non-encounter AE mez sounds like a good idea). So I'm looking for some opinions from you higher level guys with some raid experience if you don't mind a non-Necro post on the Necro board. =)

The biggest problem with the enchanter class is that in raids they lose all their utility since epics can't be mezzed anymore. In heroic or less encounters they are really good for groups. They do have a mana regen that is good for raids, but that spell is somewhat shared by other classes. So in a raid situation since enchanters lose the ability to mezz and their damage is sub-par at best most groups won't call for enchanters since the mana regen spell is shared by other classes and those classes have either better group utility or better DPS. I truely feel sorry for the enchanters, they have been looked apast for as long as necros and when they do look at them they nerf them to complete oblivion to where they are not sought after for raids. I don't know the reason behind the dev's doing what they do to certain classes, especially when there is only one dev that plays a coercer. Seems to me that they really don't find the class useful enough for the world of EQ2 to put much attention to them. The only class that I see that gets the proper amount of attention is the fighter class and maybe the wizard/warlock class. All the rest get put to the back to those people.

Also PBAOEs, which do alot of damage in several situations, are not exactly chanter friendly.

From the coercer side (I have a low-lvl one, and hence I pay attention to their issues) is that MOST of their high-dps spells (reactives) RELY on the mob doing damage to the tank, or someone else. The problem comes is that in most heroic encounters, SOMEBODY in the group is stunning/stifleing the mob for a SIGNIFICANT portion of the battle. Necros don't have these spells, but enchanters themselves DO, and thus they can either stifle and reduce the healer burdon, or DPS, which has a good shot at pulling agro, as their reactives tend to "spike" rather than "over time". And raids are worse, as the spikes can get MUCH worse (one spike of the reactive spell damage to an AE on vox reportedly took her down 20% in one shot, OBVIOUSLY resulting in agro to the coercer, wiping the raid). And add to that the charm problems (which Chup is debating over there right now), and you have classes that feel broken. The general feeling (for coercers) seems to be:Solo: can't DPS (like, at all), or you pull agro from your charmed pet, which has a LARGE chance of turning on you anyways.Group: Good if wandering ^^^ could add, otherwise there's ALWAYS somebody much better (bards are basically on-par for mana regen too, while offering more other things), though they don't feel BAD, just not "useful". Feel like if it's between them and virtually anybody else, they will NOT be the favored pick in ANY situation.Raid: Complete power bot, as nothing else (Stuns/stifles) work, and DPS is WAY too spikey for agro management

I've gotta say it's the chanters "But I'm providing buffs and breeze, why should I have to do anything else?" attitude. Ugh, I skip on every chanter that asks for a group.

And if I am grouped with one... the first time they say "the necro is slacking! the stats says so!" I drop the group. And it takes about 5 minutes for a re-invite. (With a slot for a spare dps)
