I just started a necro; really loved the Tellurian Crawler (Adept 3) of teh starter pet. I just hit 24 and have the adept 3 of the level 24 pet, and have noticed some differences that I am having trouble managing. Setting up the pet in defensive stance, send it into a multi-mob group, and it does not hold aggro as well as the spider did. The spider appeared to have a group taunt (and it used it often enough that I could use a group damage spell, such as blight); the new pet will not allow me to do any group damage without drawing aggro. Am I doing something wrong with the new pet, or is the Tellurian the only pet with a group taunt?

Message Edited by Sirjohn on 11-14-2005 04:47 AM

I rarely have problems with my Undying Adherent Adept III holding aggro on group monsters. Usually i send my pet in first, and it gets all the aggro. If any monsters ignore the pet, I make my pet switch targets. Then I can pour on the AoE damage.

I noticed the exact same thing when I hit 24 and got the new pet. I asked in the worldwide necro channel about it and a few people that responded said they were disappointed by UA for the first few levels but he seemed to get better as you got higher up. I wouldn't know myself, as I'm only 25 now, but I'm hoping thats the case.

My observation (at level 26 with Adep[t III UA) is that he does not open up with group taunt as much as the Tellurian Crawler used to. Definitely give him a few moments to collect aggro, he likely has a different spell cycle than the Crawler did.

If you don't see the AoE taunt go off, you can always cycle through the enemies and have him whack 'em each once, which should also serve to keep the mobs off you. Pet attack each mob once, you cast one DoT on them, cycle through, and when you get back to first you can toss off a blight. By the time you get back to the second and more mobs, they'll have a good chunk of their health taken out.

Message Edited by Wargod1968 on 11-14-2005 11:41 AM
