View Full Version : help with assasin pet
<DIV>ok call it newbish or whatever.. I don't know all the spells or abilities my assasin pet does. I have the Adept 3 assasin at level 46. I was told and have never seen any TRUE ( out of group ) Aoe's or regular aoe's for that matter from the scout. I like using this pet like many of you, but have recently had some problems.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>My guild raided Silent city last night. We raided some mobs that have a knock back ability. They are no agro mobs, and apparently weren't supposed to be social either. <BR><BR>The guild seemed to think that the assasin was agroing passing mobs during combat. I didn't see this. He wasn't taking direct agro from the mob incoming ( that I know of ). The thinking was that he was either doing some AOE or that when he was getting knocked back ( as player characters get knocked back from the non agro mob.. while we are in combat ), he somehow engages the non agro mob.  <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So, here is what I am asking. I seriously doubted all of the above. But as we couldn't explain it otherwise I thought I would come here and get some input. <BR><BR>1) what the heck exactly does this pet cast/proc besides single target slash/pierce. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>2) is any of it AOE? </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>3) is any of it TRUE AOE ( out of encounter )?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>4) do you really think it would be possible for the pet to "loose" his non agro status when he gets knocked back by a non agro mob while he is " agro/fighting" another mob? ( if so, then this would be a bug ) . </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>5) anyone else had similar issue?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thanks. As a necro I have been relagated to a "pet" class depending on my pet for a good portion of my dps and vitality as a class. As such, having certain "situations" where I can't use said pet is .. well not cool. It reminds me way too much of EQ1 where mages were relagated to MoD rod generators unable to use thier pets. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>thanks for the input, </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>
Your guild is wrong. No summoner pet has a true AOE, so it is impossible that he is aggroing things unless you target them and attack directly. <div></div>

<DIV>Magus is correct.. our pets don't have true aoe spells. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The assassin pet has shadestrike and one other assassin ability it uses, both of which are single target abilities. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The tank pet has corpsic frenzy, a single target proc, and some encounter taunt proc.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The warlock pet should never see the light of day. </DIV>

Summoners and their pets always seem to be the scapegoat if someone messed up on aggro and don't want to admit about it.

Only once have I seen my RT return with more than i asked for. In EF I targeted a leopard and used pet to pull, it also managed to aggro a hunter which was standing virtually on top of the leopard. I have used my assassin pets a lot and never seen it use any kind of true aoe or in-group one. It is more likley that you are getting adds from one of the HO chains - or someone is being generous with their damage and doesnt know / want to own up.

I get aggro from grps a lot too. I can be fighting at mob with him, he glows red as if he proced Lich and it hits everything near him. Not sure if its social mobs I am fighting but it has been doing this.
Woooooooa people... Let's get some things straight here... We got 2 entirely different conversations happening.<b><u>Topic #1 </u></b> NO pet has a true AoE. Period, Fact! A true AoE is one that hits mobs outside of your current encounter causing them to become aggresive. None of the pets will ever do this.<b><u>Topic #2 </u></b> If you're Pet pulling, YES, certain mobs are social. So pulling Mob A, even if its not grouped with Mob B, might still agro Mob B even if Mob B if your pet gets too close to it. This has NOTHING to do with an AoE agro. It's entirely due to the fact that Mob A and Mob B are coded such that if either mob is attacked in close enough proximity to the other, they will agro the attacker. So, when you pet pull in a new area you should check this. I know of sereral places where this is the case. In some cases, just pulling an agro mob past another social mob will be enough to get the add.

<blockquote><hr>Zaphiel wrote:Summoners and their pets always seem to be the scapegoat if someone messed up on aggro and don't want to admit about it.<hr></blockquote>QFT. Been this way since EQ1 with broken mezzes. Only after they actually started DISPLAYING who broke mez (as well as making it impossible via code for a pet to do it) did we stop being blamed (eventually). Turned out MOST of the time it was the melee (or rangers). Casters VERY rarely.

If you can point to a line in the log that specifically states this is happening, then I'll gladly take the blame. Otherwise, my minion is innocent until proven guilty. So... there... BAH!</P>
<DIV>btw.. I wasn't bringing up pulling mobs with pet ( pet pull ) and social mobs. I was talking about supposed NON social mobs/non agro that the raid says would not agro during battle, but agros ( supposedly, which I don't believe ) only bc of a necro pet. ie wouldn't agro anyone if he wasn't there in battle on the other mob. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I just don't get it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

If the mob didn't hit your pet, Your pet wouldn't hit the mob. Period. Now... I'm sure you know this, but Necros do have an out of combat AoE that I have to admit, on a couple of occations I've accidentally used to pull an add or 2. I usually do a 360 look around before casting it, but sometimes I miss a flying mob.Anyway... point is, pets don't add agro unless the pets (or necro if you have pet defending you) takes agro 1st.
<div></div><div></div>Explain something to me plz... When in Rujark, I pet pull 1 mob, pet goes in... pet glows like when I proc lich... BooM... the surrounding mobs add. However in another situation, I will be fighting in the same area, a pair of mobs walk past my pet, yet they don't aggro... however they WILL add if my pet glows like he did in the senario above. If these are sociable mobs, how come this only happens when I send my pet in for attack and this "glow" goes off? Now to address the /pet attack function in group situations. Sending pet in when grouping... Tank pulls, I assist tank, send pet in (AFTER MT taunts)... he glows again... BooM... I see my pet glow and I have 2 of the mobs on my pet. To explan further, this happens the majority of times when I send my pet in, but not all the time. What I would like to figure out exactly is what ability my pet uses when he hlows like this. EVERY time I see this glow, my pet gets multiple adds. In Rujark, if I pet pull and don't see the glow, I don't get adds, even if they are close by... I'm sure the people who keep swearing that pets have true AoE, are having the same problem. I've played with this, and I know how to get around it... but there is something going on with this "glow" and I'm just curious if others notice this. <div></div><p>Message Edited by Crylon on <span class="date_text">11-04-2005</span> <span class="time_text">03:01 PM</span></p><p>Message Edited by Crylon on <span class=date_text>11-04-2005</span> <span class=time_text>03:02 PM</span>

<DIV>was your pet getting attacked? if he was the target of the mob, then possibly either they changed them to social, and they added or, something isn't working right.</DIV>

Send pet into a group of single non-social mobs, occasionally I see the other mob get hit and it starts attacking pet. Pet did something to cause it to aggro. It is rare, only seen this a handful of times but it has happened. Prob a bug, since pets are not suppose to have an AoE outside of the current encounter.</FONT>
this isn't rare for me... I don't see it happening with all necro's in my guild... but for me, this problem - as I descibed above - happens at least 70% of the time... SoE doesn't seem to answer my questions either... so I'll just continue like I do... I know how to work around it...but because of this happening, i could only say that my pet has some sort of AoE thing going on... one may say that pets don't have such abilities... but if you watch my pet and see that "glow" going off 70% of the time, you'll start to wonder the same things as me...Bug or not... currently this is a factor for my (and a # of other peeps) gameplay.

<P>Have you checked your logfile?</P> <P>If your pet casts ANYTHING it should be in there. Show that to the GM maybe that'll help getting an answer</P>
