View Full Version : how to level?
<DIV>hi i am a level 36 20% from 37 necro, up to this point i have had absolutly no issues leveling, heck necro is definetly my favorite fun class. none of the other classes have had the appeal for me since i dig pet classes (and at some point i have made every class).</DIV> <DIV>big issue is with most other classes i have played i hit a roadblock at 31-32 where it seems that leveling takes waaaaay longer than usual and gets hideously tedious.</DIV> <DIV>with my necro i never hit this block, till now, lvl 36 is taking forever. i started hitting harclaves at 31 but honestly i have started having nightmares of being trapped in that place for the rest of my life, and im probably a [Removed for Content] but without vitality (wich is most ofthe time) i dont seem to make more xp in there than i can hunting solos in RV and at least outside of harclaves i can see the glorious sky.</DIV> <DIV>my point here is that every other necro i know seems to shoot through levels a lot fater than me yet i have more free play time than they do. i have to be doing something wrong, i consider myself a fairly decent player, definetly not an idiot, though i feel i have to be missing better hunting grounds or maybe tactics, i dont know.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>any help or advice would be much appreciated, i want to hit 40 bad, not really stressed about getting endgame but just 40 would be nice.</DIV>

Leveling begins to dramatically slow for all classes right around the mid-30s. It gets even slower around the mid-40s. Only thing you can do is tough it out.

Go hunt in EL, Zek and Feerrott at your level and do all the quests available in those zones. Great xp and money. Also hunt non-heroic group mobs for the bonus xp. Plentiful in those zones. Usually gets 1-2% xp per combat. If you have lots of gold, buy the items for the collection quests. You'll get a very nice chunk of xp for completing those quests. <div></div>
<P>yeah fire thats awsome advice, i did that with some lowbies to insta level them, works like a charm. i havent done it on this toon cause i wasnt sure how effective that tactic would be at this lvl. </P> <P>unfortunatly most of the lvl 30+ collection items are selling for almost obscene amounts of money. but i realy want to hit 40 so ill do what i need to.</P>

LOTS of easy and some quite rewarding quests in those zones, that will combine with the kills and speed your XP gain.
Stay out of Harclave, it takes EXTRA vitality, in addition to what normal mobs of that level would drain. As such, it actually hurts you. <div></div>

I rode the harclave wave till 44 and then was hard core DoF after that ... .it can be done. just grind it out and you can easily pull 20-35% XP a day on minimal vitality. <div></div>

<DIV>Trial of Harclave actually gives very lil xp... the Hideout gives me 23-27% per successful run on difficult. Harclave gives half that... prolly cuz I have yet to finish one... /sigh. Then I go and a Pit battle on difficult as well to finish out with 30% xp each night and yet another Flamin' Hogshead for my apartment... heh. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If anyone has any tips for finishing please post them for us Necros who have not quite figured it out yet. About the only thing I know for sure is that if you get more than one group you are toast. That and keep your pet on manual attack to assist you each mob otherwise he generates too much aggro and dies on you. What exactly is the Harclave. I hear a lot about it, but am a returning player since a long while back, and all I know is the main continents, Zek and EL <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

It's a solo instance found within the Splitpaw Saga adventure pack ($8 purchase, digital download only). It's readily accessible to anyone that has fought or invis'd their way down to the Splitpaw Den. It's level range is level 20 to 50, with difficulty settings from 20 to 45.

Thats odd... I turned in 5 collection quests (lvl 40/45/45/50/50) at once and went from 47.5 to 47.8 a week or two ago. I commended in some other thread, it seemd Collection quest XP was BADLY nerfed, or maybe I just happened to complete the 'easy' and so low xp (though still high lvl) collection quests. 4 of the 5 were DoF collections... mabye just DoF collections are poop XP. I did get that nice vase for my house though. Anyway... how to lvl.... not a Necro thing, but just in general -- Do quests, grinding mobs is a horrible way to lvl post 30, and without vitality is just maddening. Quest XP is flat same, no more or no less with vitality. Harclave has LONG since been a good deal, due to several, sucessesive nerfs (espically on XP), if you MUST grind, as others said, even large groups of blue cons are more efficient use of time. <div></div>
<P>Garg, I just experienced the same thing you did, hit 37 last night doing first tombs of night quest (small sampling) so i decided to get a chunk at the end of the night doing some collections.</P> <P>WOW, i hat having an empty xp bar when going out grinding but i spent 40g (and i am very much not rich) on 4 lvl 50 collection quests and got a grand total of 12.7% xp from them, not worth it. at least i can use this on my lower toon but obviously not worth the money on a higher.</P> <P>i started to do the questing in EL for xp and seems to be the greatest thing ever, i love questing but i can never find groups for them so i usually wait till i waaay green them out, but EL had some pretty easy solo ones with great xp boosts. and today after the quests i finished my session with some blue group solo's in feerott, xp is easily comparible if not better than harclaves with no vit and i have the chance, yes rare, to get the quest starter for the robe of the invoker.</P> <P>thanks for all the advice, im already close to 38 and i had more fun than just harclaves, i really think the only time i will be going back there is if i am in an anti-social mood or desperatly need a few more gold to buy something.</P>

Heyhey, after reading up on all those happy necros here, I started a Necro meself 3 weeks back .. lvl 39 atm (close to 40 though). I had a blast from 36 on in Feerrott. Do the quests from the quest camps and follow them all through. U will get some nice INT items (shoulderpads with +14 INT e.g.), good money and most quests are rather easy. Plus quite often Mobs in Feerrott drop quest starters. Most of these quests (like kill 10 Bitter Blooms e.g.) are repeatable, mobs are easy to kill and u get large chunks of XP even without Vit. XP just rolled in like crazy there ... Shavoran, lvl 54 Wizzard, Runnyeye (Main) <Lords of Chaos> <div></div>
<P>holy hell ben, you rolled 3 weeks ago and your already higher than me? thats sick man, i gotta be doin something very wrong then.</P> <P>i've been on mine for a month and a half with plenty of play time and that seems insane to me.</P> <P>anyway all this advice is great, in the last 2 days i got a level and a half and been havin serious fun (plus decent money gains here lately) gonna ding 38 sometime tomorrow, cant wait for thrall adept 3.</P> <P>thanks for the freindly help BTW, i have avoided posting in these forums before cause several necro's on other forums are just not nice people, good to see they don't visit this area.</P>

lol u are not doing anything wrong ... I just had a blank Mage toon sitting with full vit at lvl 9, Class Quest complete, no way choosen though. Plus having another toon being lvl 40 Sage and having all spells min. App IV (and actually loads Adept III) helps as well <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Good Tip to keep the downtime low: Buy Totem of teh Winged Viper - quite inexpensive and helps greatly Shavoran, llvl 54 Wizzard, Runnyeye <div></div>

<P>When you hit lvl43 head to EF and do the repeatable quest that you get once you zone from the girl there and make sure you only try for the "stags".. they are lvl45 solo mobs and easily killable.. the number of them you have to kill varies between 8 and 12 and takes on average about 10-15mins to get done and you get 4% xp and about 70s per.. its a great way to lvl</P>
Just have to throw this question into the fire again, how about solo xp at mid 50's? Been in a few "XP groups" roughly same level as me, xp is insanely slow. There somewhere in DOF where you can get repetable quests who are soloable and pay decent XP? Any good solo XP spots for the mid 50's?

Pillars of Flame and the Silent City are about the only good solo spots for 55+.

Chain-pulling giants in the big giants camp (I mean literally, often 2 groups engaged at once) can get you 25%+ per hour with vitality. Harpies are still good solo at 55, use the assassin pet and just both charge in at once, you can kill very fast that way. High 50's, the goblins on the sandscrawler mountain top are OK but you have to use more skill to stay alive so the XP is a bit slower. Great vendor loot there, it's a favorite spot for the plat farmers.</span></span><div></div>
Ok, ty for your input, will give it a go.

<P>ivo, thanks for the advice i am headed to EF tonight.</P> <P>I am level 42 now and realy getting more enjoyment from my necro doing the quest and non heroic group thing, but i have hit a rut at 42 because everything in feerott is netting less xp and lavastorm is scary. DoF is a wee bit too much for consistent xp right now and i have no idea why i havent explored EF.</P>
Actually, at 44 i started running the faction quests in SS docks, you can take 3, time to do... something round 15-30 minutes each. Experience gained is 6-7% per quest and a +3 gold payout. That sums up to rougly 36-42% xp/hour... It felt almost like cheating... <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>They are on a a timer though, think its around 30 mins?</DIV><p>Message Edited by Elikai on <span class=date_text>11-17-2005</span> <span class=time_text>11:58 PM</span>

<DIV>Regarding slowdown of xp, I have noticed no difference from 20s to 50s. Unlike EQ1, the xp requirements at each progressive level seem to scale linearly with the increase of mob xp per level. Takes me the same amount of time now as it ever did. Tradeskilling is the same way. Plus the insane rate of vit gain and quest xp makes leveling so fast I don't even try anymore, it basically comes automatically.</DIV>
How about those Tears Grifters quests? Worth doing xp wise mid 50's?
