I'm a lowbie, do not have the scout pet yet, but reading through the forums caused me to wonder about a certain aspect of the scout pet ;P

Basicaly, I read that conjurers have little to no problems using their scout pet for soloing, up to and maybe even including yellow mobs (and one mention of white ^ mobs too!). The idea is that they use a defensive buff on it, making it able to tank better while still doing a significant ammount of damage.

So is this a possibility for necromancers? Also would this strategy be good for groups of / / / or / / mobs? The pet should in theory kill the mobs fast, eliminating a large percentage of the encounter damage. But would it take too much damage regardless of the ammount it would inflict? I just want some thoughts on the matter

Thanks

I've read where some necros will solo with the scout, but me personally... I use the tank. Toss either off or def buff on him and you are good to go. Never had problems soloing yellow ^ mobs with him.

at 55, I use my scout pet for my writ mobs in lavastorm (no arrow, lvl 46 and 47 solo mobs), and when duoing 55 and 56 single down and double down groups of lunatics and heriocs in Pillars. The green magma worms in lavastorm just can't hit him, and the lunatics just go down too fast to require a real tank. Plus, I have my Exhange Life at M2 so I can heal pet for 587 every 8 secs or so and tap the hp back from the mobs.

For everything else, I use the tank pet. He actually does decent dps with his procs and his hate generation is superb. You can even put him in an offensive stance. He will never be on par with an equal level assassin pet, but he's certainly no slouch.

The mage pet, on the other hand....

Ya, if for some reason i'm killing mainly greens and/or low blues, scout in offensive, high-blue to white (no-up-arrow), tank pet in offensive stance, and for white^ and yellow^, etc, tank in defensive. Just WAY too much damage on the pet otherwise, creating downtime, and thus that's bad. =DAlso for multi-mob encounters, the reactive lifetap of the defensive stance can be quite good, sometimes making that a better choice than an offensive stance, regardless of their color.

Edit: And yes, it's possible to solo with the assassin pet though the reason the conji's are good at it is they have more mob stuns than necro's so they rely on keeping the mob from attacking as opposed to necro's that use their personal damage to kill mobs while a zombie is taunting. It can be done by necro's of course but I know I have to scale my personal damage way back when using an assassin pet, I'm not convinced that using a scout is any more efficient than just using a defensive tank pet.

Message Edited by El Chupacabras on 11-01-2005 07:03 PM

Not sure about you, but I also have the M2 transfer life (or whatever it's called), and I heal for 587 pts as well. Also, I use the Assassin pet exclusivly when I solo ( level 51 and I usually take out groups of 53's) and even single ^54 mobs with no problem, and that's with the M2 offensive buff. The only time I break out the tank pet is when I go up against heroic mobs or if I need to use the pet in a group that has no real tank.

Edit: Misunderstood a poster... the master is the T4 heal which is not exchange life but transfer life and heals 20% slower than posted and for considerably less than transfer life will even at adept 1.

Message Edited by El Chupacabras on 11-01-2005 09:09 PM

Yes, you can use the scout pet to solo. Esp if the scout is adept 3 and your offensive stance is adept 3.I solo anything less that ^^ named mobs with scout. Yes you need to heal it and stun to keep it alive, but its faster than the warrior pet and holds agro as well.Vs ^^^ mobs, the scout can't stay alive. Burst damage from those mobs hurt your offensive stanced scout worse than you can quickly repair. Even green ^^^ mobs will kill it if they can hit it. For these I use the Warrior/Tank pet if Defensive.Since the fastest way to get exp is killing no-arrow mobs around your own level, I almost always have the scout or mage up in defensive. When I'm killin hordes of solo groups, the mage seems a tad faster. But the scout is al all purpose killer!

Heh.. can you tell the respec really messed me up?

At least I found out that I'm using an outdated heal spell! Time to upgrade to Exchange Life for real! Might as well respec again while I'm at it to take another choice for that M2. (also, just read that I'll be able to respec AGAIN because of EQ2's birthday. That will make a total of 4 for me in less than a year - Feb or so of this year, combat patch, 1 freebie post combat patch and this one. Nothing like having your decisions be reversible!)

Thanks for the heads up El Chuc.. (even if it did come by way of snide remark! :smileytongue: )

I have to be snide every once in a while, don't want people to think I'm actually nice and helpful after all .

Off topic, sorry, but are respecs cumulative? I haven't played since about 4 months into release, so the whole concept is new to me.

I believe unused respecs should stack up. You may have one (or more) respecs. I know they gave out one with LU13, but the the life of me, I cannot recall the dating of the ones prior.

They ultimately gave out 2 with LU13. One at launch and one the following week. One of the upcoming veteran awards is a respect scroll... I'd dare say it would do the same as a global respec.
