<DIV>Thanks for all the great responses to my earlier thread, "Is there Strategy?". That was great information for my newbie like myself. My other question was, what is a good profession to take? I was hoping for something somewhat self-sufficient. Is Provisioner or Tailoring useful?</DIV> <DIV>I want to be able to make a little money out of a profession as well as making some things for myself. Thanks for any advice!</DIV>

<DIV>If you want to make your own spell upgrades, sage is a no-brainer.  But the profitability of this profession is somewhat questionable... you probably wouldn't make much coin aside from work orders for spell upgrades.  You could speculate the adept III market, but I think that is too risky.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The number two choice, in my opinion, would be alchemist.  This is the path I chose because our guild didn't have an alchemist beyond tier 3.  Well, we do now. :smileyhappy:  You can make some nice potions for yourself (+int buffs are nice) and we have a more diverse set of products to keep us profitable.  That and there are the all-important extracts that only alchemists can make.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Provisioner, I would rank at number 3.  We absolutely need food and drink to help with our downtime.  That and I have a hard time finding any food with +int on it.  If I could make my own, then I wouldn't have that problem.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>As a necro, if you dont do tradeskills yourself you will most likely give money to sages, tailors, jewelers, woodworkers (in that order) for gear/spells and then provies and to a lesser degree alchies for food/drink/potions.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So I would start by seeing if you have any friends or guildies that already fill any of those roles, and then choose from the rest.  If you just want to be the most self sufficient I would say to go with a sage, but if one of the other professions piques your interest more Id go for what you think would be most fun.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Personnaly I enjoy tradeskilling so I have one of each class - but not all are leveled up to the point where I can use them so I rely on my guildies for spells and jewelry.</DIV>

<blockquote><hr>Tharangus wrote:That and I have a hard time finding any food with +int on it.<hr></blockquote>That's because the same components which you make +int stuff with is also the primary components in most of the DRINKS that sell, and those usually sell for more than the food.Go to the provisioner boards and you can read all about it.

<P>Tradeskill because you like it - not for the profit. </P> <P>Greatscott hit the nail on the head -- the single most profitable venture is harvesting.     The Tier 4-6 rares sell like hotcakes and for good money -- considering you can sell a vanadium or pearl (DoF Tier 6) on Mistmoore for 4pp on a good day and rhodium or rubies are going for 1pp for quick sales.      Other more common things like drink ingredients, roots, and common rocks needed for chemistry ingredients (washes, oils, resins) sell well too, sometimes 10-20s each depending on what it is.</P> <P>On Mistmoore the most profitable raw tradeskills are the ones that produce consumables -- food (mostly drinks) and totems are most popular.  I swear nobody knows what poisons are good for, I can't sell rare poisons (as an alchemist) for anything.</P> <P> - Salsa, 47 Necro</P>
