There are two types of minion stances, offensive and defensive. I'm not sure when I should use one or the other.

For example, should a Necro use the offensive stance when soloing and the defensive stance when grouping?, or visa versa?

Would appreciate your feed back and experience with these Minion Stance spells.

thx

If you want your pet to go on the offensive, sacrificing his ability to avoid damage so he will inflict more damage, then use the offensive stance.

If you want your pet to go on the defensive, sacrificing his ability to inflict damage so he can avoid more damage, then use the defensive stance.

If you need your pet to tank for you than you set him to defense, if you have a player defending you then the pet should be set to offense.

I always use the offensive stance in every situation and with every pet. I found out that it is way too easy for me and others to get aggro when I use the defensive stance. Aggro is still based on the damage done to the mob. That's how we pull aggro away from tanks in long battles.

The Defensive Stance is best used when your pet is forced to tank -- either soloing difficult mobs, or in a group where your pet is the main tank. The defensive stance usually tacks on a damage shield component that not only hurts the mobs hitting Jobabnik, but also increases hate with each hit he takes. It is quite difficult to pull aggro from a pet with the defensive stance turned on.

Offensive stance seems to lower the pet's defensive abilities considerably - enough so that the tradeoff of increased DPS sometimes ends up with the pet dying, and you running. In a group, however, the offensive stance is very desirable.

When soloing mobs you don't want to get hit by, use the warrior pet with defensive stance, and you'll rarely steal agro from it.When soloing harclaves or vs mobs you really aren't worried about killing you, use the scout pet and offensive stance. In a group with a good tank, use scout and offensive or mage and offensive. In my experience, the mage does great AoE damage, but vs single targets the scout's a little better, and just looks cooler.I've personally never had a reason to ever use the warrior pet in offensive stance... Although I could see using that in a group with a weaker main tank. Basically, I'm intentionally using a lower dps pet without the innate ability to taunt... Kinda sucks though, in this case I'd probably just use defensive still and have my pet take over tanking. Also never had a reason to use defensive on either the scout or mage... Neither really ever wants to get much agro, and their strongest defensive is their massive offensive. So even in situations where they might take damage, you're usually better off pumping up their offense... The only exception here, and I've personally not been in the situation, is vs a raid level mob that does so much AoE that you need the defensive stances HP boost for a pet to survive. Maybe in that case, you'd sacrifice the damage, just to keep them up?

I use master II ofensive stance 90pct of the time and the defensive one I use rarely when I go play with named mobs or osme tuff ^^^ other wise diease servant can just tank preaty well up to high blue ^^^ just using offensive buff anyways.

About grim pet i is for me a waste of a spell, ad3 of it is sooo low dps, it does less then my warrior pet but anyways if you like the nuker pet I recommend to use agitation, preffered master II of it, boost int for +36 so max possible damage of pet gets better.

When soloing group of mobs ^ I still use offensive buff on warrior pet to kill mobs quicker and if I see pet is dieing I root the other mob and well, remake the pet.... I kill then faster and safer wit hthis strategy instead using defense stance, fight tankes too long and I will get in trobble cause I will need to nuke soo much cause pet on defensive is real low dps and I wil lget agro..... offensive is just better to hold agro if you ask me.Defensive is indead just for for ^^^ /nameds also ^^^.

Allowen

lv60 necro

Mistmoore server

I'm using Adept 3 war and there seems to be a big diff in the amount of agro esp vs groups when I use def. vs off. stances. I'll try off stance tonight and see again, but vs groups I peel adds off very easy esp when I use AoEs. But with Def, I can pretty much kill the entire group faster than the warrior can kill its primary target... and never get agro!

Adept III tank pet, Master II defensive, and as long as I let pet get first taunt and attack, I can't rip aggro off my pet for my life. Only thing that does it is Seism, on rare occasions, and even then pet grabs aggro right back.
