<DIV>Can anyone tell me a good parser and where to get it?  Is there one that is better than the other?</DIV>

<A href="http://www.combatstats.com" target=_blank>www.combatstats.com</A> for the one everyone uses for real-time parsing (i.e. parsing while you're playing). EQCompanion for offline parsing (Monday morning quarterbacking, useful for raids so you can adjust strategy next time).

<DIV>Dumb question here..  I downloaded the combatstats program a few weeks ago and tried to get it goind.  Do I have to do something in EQ2 for it to start creating a log file to be parsed?  I can't seem to find it, or any info on that point.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>thanks.</DIV>

yes you do.  You have to do a / command.  I think it's /log or /showlog.  Can't really remember.

<DIV>combat stats is good for online parsing in groups.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>For raids, combatstats doesn't give accurate data. Use eq2 companion but it does offline parsing only</DIV>

FYI - EQCompanion does do real time parsing.<div></div>

Yup EQCompanion can parse a log file as it is being written to, it just doesnt have the UI interface that combatstats does, so if you want to view the parse you will have to either minimize EQ2 or just keep it up on a 2nd monitor.

<P>EQCompanion's a bit of a resource hog, too.  If you want true parsing, you are stuck with either companion or statalyzer since combatstats only snapshots damage and doesn't include any swarm pets damage.  I know a few people that use a laptop to run EQCompanion realtime though it seems a bit extreme to do, just parse at the end of your playsession (be sure to clear your logs every night so you can reaverage your damage the next night).</P> <P>The real problem with stats is that there is no way to break down the damage done by damageshields, procs, dumbfires, reactives etc.  There are many classes that give huge proc spells to melee classes (those "do damage on three successful attacks" type spells specifically) that won't parse as the mages damage but as the melee's, skewing the numbers of what everyones damage actually is.  Remember, the damage is really the person who cast the spell, not who procs it etc.  It's no big deal for necro's since we only do our own damage plus swarm damage plus pet damage compared to every other class that gets damage that is not directly attributed to them... there is no way to really find out what kinda damage someone's doing without using an in-depth parser like companion.</P> <P>It's a pretty common mistake... dynamism cast on a necro is going to do sick damage but that isn't really "our" damage, it's the illusionists though combatstats won't show that (and why you get alot of classes freaking out about DPS, they aren't parsing everything out).</P>

<P>Hey everyone,</P> <P>I have just downloaded combat stats monitor to calculate my Necromancers DPS. I have placed Plague rat and Fetid Rat on my group list. My problem is that although the plague rats DPS is calculated, The program doesn't give my fetid rats any dmg done or dps. Any help would be much appreciated.</P> <P> </P> <P>Thx</P>

The plague rat, corpses and both kinds of dogs need to be parsed separately. You can test this by attacking a harmles grey, casting rats and nothing else, and seeing what combatstats reports.<BR>
