My pet changed shape!

I just hit lvl 10 summoner and when I applied an adept 1 to it, it changed into a large spider! Do they all do that? How does that work?

<DIV>I know at least a few of them change.  The level 20 warlock pet starts off as a goblin skeleton and turns into a horned skeleton with adept 1 and I took my rotting thrall from  adept 1 to adept 3 and he is a lot taller now.  </DIV>

For example the "Master 1" of the spell you just upgraded is a Golem. </span><div></div>
