Do they do about the same damage? Or is one better for soloing than the other. I hate grouping and mostly solo. I am currently only lvl 14 summoner, but was thinking of doing the betrayal quest just cause the city of freeport is so dang depressing. The NPC's there are so negative it gets annoying. Also, how is soloing as you get higher levels? Is it the same or does it get harder to solo?

Personal opinion only but I feel both conjurors and necro's are great soloers. They both do about the same damage now but they do it a bit differently. Both classes DOT like crazy but Necros will get a lot of their damage from the nukes they cast whereas the Conjurors get a lot of damage from the procs they cast on their pets. End the end they'll both go back and forth in the parsing. No real difference, just how ya do it.

Soloing does get a lot easier the higher you get. More skills, more options, and more specilization the more levels you get under your belt. Only other glaring difference are that Conjurors have elemental based damage whereas Necros are poison and disease. Also, with necros your health will do a lot more bouncing around since some spells take health to cast and other spells give you health. with a conjuror you're just worried about power.

Really though, if you find Freeport to be horribly depressing and you're not dead set on becoming a necro (no pun intended) then I'd suggest going for Conjuror since hopefully you'll be playing this toon a long time and you need to enjoy as much about it as you can.

Go with what you prefer for your character and not mechanics alone. Especially since there is no glaring 'one is better than the other' in this instance anyway. Even though lots of people don't RP as such it goes on in your mind a little and you get more enjoyment that way.

Necros rule! :smileyvery-happy: Ok so I'm biased.

Truthfullly I've never had the pleasure of playing with a conjurer really to see how well they do, but I do see them soloing a LOT. Either way, pet class is the best solo class imo.

I have duo'd with my brothers conjuror since the teens.

I am 52 now, he is 51 and we both solo great and do even better as duo.

Both have ups and down but I would not trade being a necro.

I love the FD alone and the ability to heal myself is great, but he has many more dmg proc' buffs for his pet and some very nice mitigation buffs for his pet which probably makes Conk pets tank better than necro pets most of the time.

This was definately true pre CU but not sure how much it is now, probably has not changed much.

Another thing to consider that is not a huge deal with the shared guild bank now, is where the majority of your guild is if you are in one.

Again not a huge deal but a matter of convenience for questing and other things.

From a practical point-of-view, since SOE seem to balance for Adept1 spells and good equipment these days, go for the conjurer. I am finding necro equipment and spells extremely rare and too expensive when they do turn up on the broker.

I basically cannot afford the equipment to do encounters that are 'normal', e,g, Harclave's, The Arena, etc.

Techincally, necros and conjurers are both very nice and you should go with what you think you'd find most fun, but I wish I'd gone for a conjurer, now. Even though I find my necro very cool, it's just so tough with crappy gear these days.

Just want to point out that necros and conjurors use the exact same gear. There is no subclass specific gear in the game yet, so as far as armour and jewelry goes you are going to have just as hard of a time as a conjuror. Also, conjuror spells (should) drop just as frequently as necro spells. There may be an larger number of necros on your server compared to conjurors, but I dont think thats the norm.

My advice would be to find a sage in the same tier as you and work out a fair price for him to make your app4s and ad3s. Now that rares are alot less rare, you should be able to get ad3s of your important spells fairly easily if you dont mind dedicating a little time to harvesting. As a mage, our spells are our best improvements and should be raised as high as we can get them.

Im sorry you are getting discouraged with not being able to find any gear/spells on broker - but I think if you buddy up with a sage you will be doing fine. Also, what level are you? I may be able to think of a few quests you could do for some decent gear at your level.
