The question is in the title: What's Darkness Supposed to be Useful For? It's a snare and a DoT, which is OK, except it breaks on other damage. So you can't "stack it up" with your other spells, as it breaks fast, making it a waste of mana as a damage-causing spell. So tell me again how this is useful? Running away from a single mob maybe? Kiting around a mob while the group is working on another one (that one's gotta be "fun" (not) )What am I missing? This seems to be a spell w/o a clear purpose, since true kiting would be impossible with it (and I don't want that, as I never liked kiting in EQ1 either).

1.0 cast time spell that procs lich. I also use it for pulling.... you can get off 3-4 spells before the mob gets to you and before it breaks.

I am so glad they added this line of spells. Dooming Darknes (level 51) at Adept3 snares for 91%... yeah that's right 91%. I can kill mobs before they even get close to me. The DoT of the darkness line is meger, I'll agree, but the snare IMHO makes it very very valuable to the soloing necro.

Shadow, how do you use it to solo? does the adept3 version not break as easily? or do you just cast the snare over and over?

Thanks!

Skelly -51 Necromancer - Grobb

No, you can't kite heroics like you used to, but it has its uses heh i love using it on 'adds' in pvp arena =)

I love this spell line. Here's how I use it to solo 3 even con mobs at a time. Stand farthest distance from mob group and root the first mob, quickly darkness a second mob. Keep running backwards in between spells. Send pet to attack the third mob. After the pet has mob's attention, order it to attack the second snared mob until it gains hate. Darkness the first mob that is rooted because it will break soon...it will stack and buy you time when root breaks for you to root it again. Stack dots on the mob pet is attacking, switch pet target to other non-rooted mob that is attacking it to increase hate and stack dots on it. Root first mob again. Hopefully you have master Lifetap...great way to finish one of the two mobs the pet is beating on. The other mob should die, and you send pet to first mob that is rooted/snared. etc, etc. Close with HOs.

Keep Fear available to repel any mob that resists a root/snare and makes it to melee range.

Snares rock, especially since they stack with root!
