View Full Version : How to own most melee classes in a duel

For starters, don't let them start the fight next to you. Most melee classes have stuns that are all .5 seconds or less and if they land that, you will most likely lose the fight. So, that said, go invis as soon as the duel is accepted that way you will have 1 or 2 seconds to get away from them while invisible. Then the fight will start and they will have to locate you and target you which will waste some time. You can either fear them, root them, or snare them. Once any of these is done, send your dumbfire pets on them (Most good melee classes will kill your rats/dogs very quickly if they know what they are doing, but the dumbfire zombies have more hp and will take longer) Then if they are still rooted/feared/snared, stun them and use your main lifetap, then dot them up and if you time it right, you can also use Siesm to knock them down for another 3 seconds, then here is the secret to winning. Buy a nuke wand. Press sprint, then nuke them while not letting them get close. Two things will happen when you sprint away nuking them on the run. If they continue chasing you they will not catch up because you are running around in random directions sprinting away and your pets will eat them up. Or they will stop and attack your pets, if they do this, you can do your main lifetap again and throw on another nuke/snare/root until they start chasing you, then sprint is still on and you run away and use your clicky wand. 9 times out of 10, or 19 times out of 20, they will be dead long before you run out of mana. And if you are worried about your mana, stop sprint when you have around 20% left and then just run away from them and wait for fear or seism to come back, then stop to fear, or seism, then stun and repeat. The main trick is you cannot let them get close to you. If they get close they will stun you and take you down at least 70% or more, and if they are good you will be dead before you are unstunned/stifled. For obvious reasons this does not apply to rangers.

I find that its quicker and easier to fear them first (if they are in range). Fear is a much faster casting spell than invis. Fear, pet attack, rats, zombie, and at this point, they are probably on their way back to you. Root, seism, snare, nuke, lifetap. Dead tank or scout.

Scouts and wizzies can kill us with one hit, so its imperitive we don't let them get that one spell or combat art off. Fear is my most reliable spell in this regard. Not only does it not allow them to get that spell off, depending on where you are dueling, you may get a little bonus becuase your opponent can still be engaged by mobs. If he runs into a Tundra Terror or Truth Guard while feared, all the better for your record! (note, I do not send out duel invites in dangerous places to take capitalize on this, but I certainly take advantage of the elements when challenged!! I also always have see invis up, and don't start the battles invis unless the other person does cause I think its cheap.)

Question, does lich proc for damage to your opponent when dueling? I've yet to try it.

Indeed Lich does proc during duels! Also, in reguards to the invising at the beginging of the fight, I believe the OP was talking about before the actual dual started. Of course invis has a 2 sec casting time where Root only has 1, but if you go invis after you accept (you have 5 sec to prepare after you accept the challenge) then you go poof before the dual even starts. Which means at the least, you get a sec or two as they have to retarget you before they start anything. Not usefull to some/most scouts as they can seem to see invis.

I figured I would throw this in...

Paladins do have interupt nukes... when I've dueled necro's/conj's I start off with the interrupt nuke, and move in for my stun. I ward as the timer is going 5-4-3-2-1 for the battle to start to get a jump on the pet's dps. I have about 6 arts at level 37 that stun or interrupt, and I time them to keep the caster in a semi-state of psuedo-stifle. Two of them are nukes. So far, I have lost one battle to a Conj... she used the terrain against me... "Can't See Target" was my downfall. lol

Message Edited by burnman on 10-07-2005 09:12 AM
