Hello all, I was wondering if the necro subclass is like the necro from eq1. I had a lvl 65 necro, she was tons of fun to play. Seems like I could do lots of damage, had a pet, could survive almost anything, and could solo like there was no tommorow. Is the eq2 necro a great solo class? I know in eq1 necromancers were considered very powerful. I've tried a few other games and have been disappointed. Nothing hooked me like the first EQ Hoping for good news..........

After the BIG patch on 9/13, I think Necro is much closer to EQ1 now more than ever before.

Prior, I felt it was drastically different.

Granted, I am only level 24 and cannot comment on the high end of Necro yet.

In terms of overall class power in comparison to other classes, yes I think we're a bit like the EQ1 necro now. We're also like the EQ1 Necro in terms of solo ability.

Now in the area of techniques used to kill, and our group role, no we're not really like the EQ1 Necro. Thank the Gods we don't twitch here. That drove me [Removed for Content] nuts in EQ1. But we do get FD, an in combat rez, a Clinging Darkness line of spells, lifetaps, dots (although they are way toned down now thanks to our increased DD abilities), and Lich form. So on the surface some of our spells are quite similar, it's just the way we apply them that's a bit different.

Our Snare breaks quite easily when the mob takes damage, as does our Fear spells. So there's no Fear kiting in this game. I use it as an emergency get away spell more than anything now.

Overall, I'm very happy with the changes, the only thing I would like to see now is better looking pets. Getting tired of seeing a Rotting Zombie, and a shade. I miss the graphics on the old EQ1 high end pets, now those were sweet.

They are similar, but as was said above, our snare and fear spells break when the mob is damaged, so no fear kiting, or kiting of any kind (for any classes) anymore.
