I am enjoying my necro a lot post patch. I have a question regarding Clinging Darkness. It's duration is supposed to be 45 seconds, I believe. VERY often, it sticks, I can see the maintained icon, but then it quickly disappears. I don't see any message in the log about a resist or anything.

I did some testing to see if a certain spell I was casting was overwriting it's effect or not. Nothing conclusive was found. It seems to just disappear no matter what spell I cast. I cannot say that I have ever seen it last it's full duration. Usually it lasts 1-3 seconds, sometimes it has made it to 20 seconds.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Our snare line has a high chance to break if the mob it is affecting is damaged. This makes the uses of the snare line very limited, but I still use it every fight because it is a fast cast spell that procs my lich:smileyhappy:

I was not thinking of it in the "snare" aspect. I was focusing on the small DoT it does every so often. I was just wanting to stack as many DoTs as possible.

Thinking of it being a snare, I now realize it is "breaking" from damage.

Thank you for the reply!

Yea, about the only use I found for it is pulling (if I'm feeling to impatient to wait for the pet to fetch the mob), or I could see it used in a situation where you were fleeing a especially tough single encounter. Maybe I'm not thinking outside the box enough, but it seems to be pretty useless to me.

I've reported it as a bug. Tried it against mobs 25 levels below mine, and while the duration is stated at 48 seconds (12 pulses, one every 4 secs), the actual duration can be anything... seen 3 to 12 pulses take effect before the spells self-negates.

Read the other posts, it's not a bug. People were summong their dumbfire pets and then just snaring the target while running away. Kiting made very easy...people have been kiting like this for months now though, I don't see why they give us a spell to make up for our snare loss and then nerf it to uselessness. Just to reiterate, if the target takes any damage beyond the damage from the snare itself, the snare has a very good chance to break and the dot portion leaves as well.

There already have been discussions about kiting pro and contra. I see no problem with it, as we indeed killed heroic mobs solo, but we needed also more time for doing so than soloing.Another aspect: I chose my class necromancer for being able to kite, like I used to do in eq1...
