Why oh why did they give our mana pumps to the nukers (no, sac/dark hearts are no where near an equivilant). I miss being the mana battery on raids. =P Seriously though, Would be nice to get some of our utility back that we had in EQ. Our "Save the raid" utility is useless with feathers and rez stones being handed out to everyone and anybody can res a priest that has feign death after a wipe. and of course our mana battery history is non existent. Sac hearts are cool, but no the same. Oh well, im off to get some sleep, work in like 5 hrs.

I really didn't mind. After a certain point mana regen was just so much you could keep all your dots up and still have mana left over to make the casters happy. I absolutely loved one raid we had one chanter and we agro'd so many mobs but the chanter was only limited by how much mana he had. I was the only necro, so it was just us holding the entire raid together. You dont get many moments like that.

Maybe not that many save the raid due to twtching moments but plenty of folks that believed your entire job was to be a battery, not my idea of fun. What's worse is when others in your class somehow believe that being a battery is your sole purpose in life and are happy doing just that. I didn't mind twitching either because I stayed with friends and they knew better.I hated being on raids with Necro's that thought thats why they were there and having to teach them that you are not just a dang battery. I think that entire spell line should forever be stricken from games because the potential for its abuse is too great. Not abuse in the sense of making things trivial but abuse in forcing a player into a role he doesnt find fun or didnt sign on for. I've had a few tell me that if I didn't want to twitch I picked the wrong class. Hell with them /disband and never join them again. If I wanted to use all my mana on x class I would have rolled it. Twitching can be hell, we had it, sorc's got it and they hate it every bit as much as we did, read their posts on it. Once upon a time in EQ1 mod rods were insta use and reuse.Mages were stuck doing just that, rod feeding until enough of them either quit, rerolled or cried to the heavens for relief and they got it. I'm only hoping for the sake of sorc's who actually want to play their class they get the same.

Never had that problem. What people expect and what they got were two different things. I was never rude about it, but if clerics sent tells saying 'Mana at 20%!' I told them I would get to them as I could. Usually not pumping clerics allowed them to manage their heals better for the most part. It was never anything I let anyone force me to do, but I also wasnt a jerk about it, either. If the raid looked like it was going to fall apart, I switched my roles around as needed. I think the spell line helped the class more than hurt it. You just need to know how to be polite about it to people and decide when to do it yourself.
Message Edited by Xaen Neax on 09-12-2005 07:38 PM

I agree fully except not everyone had the same experiences. You can be as nice as you want to be and still run into that one cleric that just refuses to realize that you aren't their extra mana pool and they just have to learn to be more efficient, some raid leaders are the same. The problem isn't the ability,I played with a cleric alot and she was almost never even at 50% because I kept her twitched when the spell refreshed, but, she was also smart on how to play and it was indeed my choice. The problem is the community as a whole doesn't respect it and the ability causes more headache than it's worth. When you have to look around for the very few guilds that actually know your value as more than a battery, you're in trouble. As a EQ1 Necro, there was no greater headache. I like the ability, especially in EQ1 with our insane mana regen and other gifts granted through AA's that made us extremely efficient as well, what I don't like is the abuse that comes with it. It's not the ability, it's the people and I got my fill of that fight years ago. I posted it before but I'll say it again,I actually find sorc's getting twitch humorous and ironic. Sort of a cosmic payback for all the times wizzies had the audacity to ask, like my casting was somehow less important than theirs. There was no greater indignity and I can't deny smiling at every sorc complaint I see on the issue. That being said, no one deserves the battery treatment and I hope it's something they either modify or replace so that it's not the curse it's become. Some way to share mana regen might be nice, just nothing that involves actively doing it to the exclusion of your primary role and fun. Sharing my regen as a necro would have been far preferable to being stuck twitching every ~6 seconds and having to watch mana like a hawk just for the clerics sake.

Aw, we actually have quite a nice understanding on the 'hearts' when we go on guild raids. If it is a red con mob then I usually pull my pet off and chain cast my spells, taping for power when necessary and staying out of AoE / DoT range. During this time I would refresh the DoT debuff as it dropped and used the 4 sec timer on that to /tell or /ra macro about my next intended pump target. Soon as i see the spell become usable again I simply add it to the chain, then switch back the aggro once it lands.

Guys have taken the hint and have made a /ra macro anouncing their need if I miss the heart 'going off' I guess it will be nice to go completley on the offensive and have other casters keep power up on our MT&H but I will miss helping people out

Obviously this sort of behaviour only works / is enjoyable for me in a guild group that I know well - pick up groups get pumped only if they are polite!
