I'm a level 20 Necro and am having trouble fighting multi-mobs. I can't seem to take a group of 3 blue mobs. I send in my pet (Hero) and the other two go right after me. I can barely kill one mob without having to run away. This is getting pretty frustrating. I have a Druid and a ShadowKnight and they can both easily solo multi white and lower yellow mob groups. What s a good technique for fighting groups? <div></div>

<P>I know the feeling. I hear of many people using hex doll's to snare mobs so you can kite, but as we all know kiting can be tricky in heavy aggro zones. typically what I do (this works well when you have FH) send you pet in, but force it to do it's special attack. Basically send it into a fight, before it gets to melee range, if it doesn't process it's frenzy attack, back it off, send it back in. It may take 3 to 4 "atack" "back off" commands, but it will eventually do the frenzy attack from a distance. This attack draws enough hate to have it start attacking one of the other mobs so quickly change the target, and have the pet attack one of the other mobs. At that point your pet is controlling 2 mobs, the other is up to you. Make sure to root and HO's the crap out of the other mob to get rid of it quickly, because at level 20, the FH is not that beefy, and cannot take too much damage. Once you get rid of the straggler, one of the mobs attacking the FH will switch to you after one or two pet heals, so be ready.</P> <P>This is not an exact science, but it can be done. We are by nature robe wearing sissy's, so be ready to start running if things go bad. Also I've heard on the test server that multi encounter groups all attack the pet when it attacks, so it may make things a little easier. Good luck and good hunting, hope this helps.</P> <P> </P>

We get much better tools to cope with multiple encounters as you climb levels so don't despair too much. Always gonna be tougher if they are herioc. <div></div>

Thanks for the feedback. I'll keep trying but it seems the Necro took a beating in EQ2. I loved playing one in EQ1 but I'm not sure I'll stick with it, especially considering the combat abilities of the other classes. Hopefully the pet changes will help. <div></div>

If its any comfort I nearly stopped playing my necro because of the very same issue. Once you get out of the thought that you gonna have all those eq1 tools it gets better. 20-29 as things stand are tough, mentally, to get through. <div></div>

The fact that the pet now does as its told and not switch targets all the time should help quite a lot. I have a feeling the revamp will be a godsend for the earlier levels. Hopefully.</span><div></div>

White and yellow groups (even non-heroic) can be pretty bad, but groups of three (down-arrow) yellows are certainly doable by a necro in the 20-29 range. What I usually did before getting Boon of the Lifeless was to send my pet on the group, then when it lands the very first hit and gets aggro, switch targets and order it to attack another. This should lead to the pet having aggro from two mobs and one being on you. Now it's possible to either nuke the mob that's on you or, if you're certain the pet can handle three, order it to attack the last one as well. With three mobs pounding on the pet he's taking a lot of damage, but if you keep ordering the pet on different targets (say, taking 20% health off one and then moving to the next), you can usually keep him healed ok without getting aggro. Boon at 25.6 makes it much easier to handle groups. Just send the pet in, cast Boon, watch loose mobs gang up on the pet, spam Boon 3-4 times just to be certain and heal pet as necessary. If you get aggro, use Boon or DD, depending on the situation. When the mob that's being pounded by the pet is at 10-20%, command pet on fresh target and finish the almost dead one with DD's. Lone mobs are of course much much safer to take, but it's worth the trouble to learn how to manage groups of 3-4 with a necro. <div></div>
