View Full Version : Breath of the Unearthed (Lifetap dot)
I'm closing up on this spell, I was wondering how much dmg does this spell do /tick ? And most of all how much does it heal us ? I've tried to find information, but I find it very hard to find detailed spell information on EQII spells. (Im perhaps to spoiled since EQ1) Greets, Nivak

Yeah EQ2 is difficult at the moment because all the spells/CAs scale with you as you level. After the combat revamp, though, they are only going to scale based on quality of the spell ie - app4, ad1, master etc. This should make it easier to complie spell data.

For example -

Now if you want to have a comprehensive look at a spell you need to look at it for 7 quality levels (app1-4, ad1 and 3, m1) over 14 levels (till it greys out) on average. Thats almost 100 data points that have to be collected from at least 6 different players (once a player gets app2, he can never check app1 out)

After the combat revamp one person can verify all of them and there will only be 7 variations as opposed to 98.

In response to your actual question though. . ..... take a look at handlebars' site here:

http://eq2necromancer.com/index.html

Particularly:

http://eq2necromancer.com/Spell_Shots/Breath_of_the_Unearthed.JPG

Thanks,

Thx for this very usefull information! Cheers, Nivak

It's a great spell, and much more useful than withering affliction which is basically exactly the same, except single target with no lifetap.

Personally, I have never really cared much for breath of the unearthed or withering affliction. The cast times on both are 4 seconds which I feel is way too long for the very little damage it does. And good luck trying to get those off if you are soloing group mobs, you will be interrupted or stunned most of the time while trying to get those two powers off.

When soloing I use Death coil (withering affliction upgrade) pretty much every fight. I send my pet in and when he gets his first hit I start casting it, and by the time it goes off, my pet has a decent hold on aggro and I start piling on other dots then HO. I figure Im not going to do anything those first few seconds anyways without drawing aggro, so I may as well fire off my long cast time dot, and the AGI and STR debuff cant hurt either.

I pretty much only use the AE lifetap line of spells when in a group fighting a large group of linked mobs, or when I am soloing and got too gung ho the previous pull and tanked some and siphon life isnt healing me as quick as I want.

Message Edited by Eirgorn on 07-28-2005 10:41 AM

I use them all the time. I stack the Single and the AOE heals when I need them.

They will not save your life if a mob is beating on you, but when you do get hit, and survive and your pet or group takes agro back...you can use these to bring your health back up.

I use them all the time soloing or duoing with my brothers conjurer. You obviously won't use them if you have a healer in your group.

It is effective enough that he is mad conjurers dont get some type of heal like we do.

Urbannaja wrote: Also, it's great to use at the end of fights...the healing keeps going even after the encounter is dead...keeps downtime to a minimum while soloing

That's when I would use it. When I have taken a beating and when pet can handle itself. Cast this just as its dieing to regen health a little. Occasionally when there are lots in a group but I hate the long cast time.

While it is a good spell, its so unfortunate that we necromancers arent as "lifetap" supplied as the EQ1 necro's. Granted this is another game, and we certainly received other aspects like a pet that actuallt tanks, but lifetapping was so cool. One of the most special aspect I experienced in 10y of mmo'ing was a character where one would cast a dot on himself converting hp to mana at a lethal rate. The constant "hp" management was something that felt necromancy/powerfull. While I utterly love my necro in EQII I miss that..
