View Full Version : Mildly amusing story about necro DPS.....

<div></div><div></div>To start off, I am now a lvl 39 necro with all adept 3 or master spells. Myself and two friends went into CoD to get the manastone update. They are a 42 gaurdian and a 50 warlock. We spawned the captain (lvl 31ish ^^^ raid mob...grey) and began the pummeling. Now the gaurdian began the fight keeping the agro, but about a minute into the fight the warlock firmly had it. The warlock is ocassionally getting hit for 200-500 damage, but nothing serious. When the capt hit about 8% health, the warlock has to start taping his health for power to keep the nuking up, but he was still in no threat of dying. However, then when the capt hit 5% health, I took full agro with almost 100% power still lol The mob missed me for about 15 seconds, then three hits in rapid succession 1300, 500, 300. Dead necro. Moral of the story...sure we can eventually out DPS anyone in certain circumstances, but do we want to? =) (worth noting...after we finished in COD, our group picked up a healer and a chanter and went to RV to kill nightbloods...I literally could not switch targets and cast a nuke before the warlock had burned down the entire group of nightbloods....) <p> <span class="time_text"></span></p><p>Message Edited by Urbannaja on <span class=date_text>07-25-2005</span> <span class=time_text>11:12 AM</span>

whenever I am in a group with a wizard or warlock I find myself not even messing with DOT's. The fights usually don't last that long for them to make any difference. I just send in my pet and use the two DD spells that we have. It's pretty funny when I group up with the warlock from my guild that we have the HO timing down to where the graphic barely has time to show up before it's completed and we just switch HO. Fights usually only last to where I only have time to use 3 DD spells after sending in pet.
It is sooooo nice when you're grouped with another caster who gets that concept of swapping HQ. Man... get a pattern going and you two can chain HQ like crazy <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

<P>Warlocks blossom much earlier than other mage classes dps wise. And, honestly, we are overpowered. I'm not sure how they will be able to fix it because with the exception of 2 AE spells we receive, 1 at 50, other at 48...we're using the same spells we did in our early to mid thirties at level fifty. So, if they nerf our low end spells, we're screwed; if they nerf the high end spells, we're screwed (compared to wizards.)</P> <P>I don't think I've ever seen a wizard hit over 300dps, I know I've never seen a necro or conj hit 250, yet I've hit over 900dps on several occasions (theoretically we can hit over 3kdps even factoring in cast times and duration). Maybe if they'd tone down our highest single dd nuke, nil distortion at 37, add a different single target nuke in the 40s or just make Devastation single target it would balance out a bit more. No idea, but as nice as it is to see amazing dps numbers, it's a sad thing when you can't cast 1 non-grey spell without getting aggro almost instantly. Tanks think I'm joking, but I've often grabbed aggro on raids (and groups) just by casting grey spells -- mildy amusing, I'm sure. ;(</P> <P>Here's to hoping we all benefit from the revamp, /cheers!</P>

heh... my guilds berserker yelled at our warlock and myself because we would never let anyone else get in on HO's we had them so good

I love it when that happens. It's also really funny when I do too much damage and the tank can't hold aggro. This doesn't happen alot, but when I am in a small group or during small raids. It's just a shame that it takes so long to build our dps up to that point during the encounter.
<DIV>@ Splatterpunk28,</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>How will you ever get to have 3000dps as a necro in theory?</DIV> <DIV>I can't imagine to achieve that, since I dont think I will be able to have that many dots going on at the same time, and nuking aswell.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>3000 damage per second....hmnn..thats a lot.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Care to let me know how you come to that kind of damage?</DIV>

I think he is talking as his warlock, when hitting the 900dps and speaking of the theoretical 3000dps.
