My argument: The great spellcasters of mythic and fictional literature (<i>Merlin, Faust, Prospero, Gandalf, Saruman, Radagast, Elric, Allanon, Elminster, Fizban</i>) very, very rarely have surnames. This is because thier name represents power, and taking a surname to enumerate thier identity would, in effect, diminish or trivialize that power. Of course there are exceptions. But for the most part, those few which have had surnames, have had those names bestowed upon them by others, and very rarely (if ever) have taken a surname for themselves (<i>i.e Gandalf Stormcrow - which was insulting and derogitory to Gandalf</i>). From a role-playing perspective: You are a necromancer, your name should inspire fear.
