Hi all. My main is a 46 Warlock, but I have the chance to play a decently equipped 40 necro for a while.

I'm a total noob with pet-owning chars, and it's kinda confusing at first.

Could any of you experienced 40-ish necros plz give me a quick list of your solo sequence? I basically just need the pet tactics and spell firing order, and i can experiment and figure out why for myself.

I'd like to test myself using the down-arrow Lizardmen groups in Feerrott or the down-arrow gnoll groups in the Spltpaw cave. So plz aim the replies at soloing a group of 3-4 white down-arrows.

Thanks in advance for any help! I'm excited about trying this class.

Message Edited by XBrit on 06-22-2005 01:42 PM

Make sure pet has all buffs. Make sure you have a fresh ward.

pet attack mob #1 (healer or mage or any caster)

dogs (or rats) on mob #1

as soon pet he gets aggro, pet attack a different mob (to get aggro on mob #2)

Terror or Root (paralyze?) Mob #3.

Stench on mob #4. If pet has aggro on #2 by now, have pet attack mob #4. Stun mob #4, nuke, HO, kill as fast as possible. When dead..

Pet attack mob #3 because if he's not back already, he'll be there soon. Nuke, HO, lifetap, kill as fast as possible, when dead..

Pet attack mob #1. The aggro from the dogs will have mob #1 back on you by now, so nuke, HO, tap, kill as fast as possible, which should be quick from all the damage the dogs have already done, and when dead..

Pet attack mob #2. You have have no aggro by this point, so you can stench for good measure, then re-tap, re-brace yourself, maybe tap some mob hp for power. Let pet finish off.

I die only when things go horribly wrong, like a bunch of resists or partial resists or interrupts, or I do something stupid, like target wrong mobs or interrupt my own spells. Avoid using AoE's at all costs, even for HO's while there are 4 or 3 mobs left. The AoE's are a good way to get aggro from all 4 on you at once, destroying the careful aggro management you've used to that point. Let HO's expire if necessary.

You can also spam Words of the Wicked to get pet to get all aggro, but I find it unreliable and therefore don't use it.

Here is a post I made on the conjurors tower relating to strategies for Splitpaw...

39 necro here.

From a necro point of view, the best way I have found to handle the groups of 4 is the following:

for convenience, call the mobs A - D.

-Target A from a distance and send in pet
-prior to pet engaging A, Target B
-As SOON as pet engages Target A, switch pet to target B.

At this point, pet should have aggro on A/B and C/D are running towards you. Next I usually:

-Target C and cast root

-Back up

-Target D and unload with stench/bats/rats/nuke until D is dead (I will re-root C during this time as necessary).

By the time I get around to root rotting C, the pet has taken care of A/B.

Here are some other tips for using this strategy:

-Try to have target A be close to you and target B further away. That way, the pet can generally catch B while B is running towards you.

-Try to include the mages (rosch) in target A/B. The pet can stand up to the casting much better than you can. Also a rooted mage is not nearly as nice as a rooted warrior.

I started by letting pet take one and then handling the other 3 myself. This is doable but much riskier. Getting pet aggro on 2 makes it almost trivial

Greatscott

PS casting words of the wicked does increase pet hate so you can use that at the beginning to have all 4 start off on the pet if you like.

Thanks legaleagle and gr8scott, that's exactly what I was looking for! I found all the icons on my hotbars, so now to give it a try. ( The warlock version of this is root, spam every nuke, done in 30 secs. I'm really looking forward to a more challenging solo experience. Wonder how my shards I'll make getting this sequence down )

Message Edited by XBrit on 06-22-2005 03:28 PM

Much easier way to fight a multi mob encounter is send the pet in then cast BoL/WoW when all mobs are agressed.

All mobs will turn on the pet and you just assist your pet from there on out killingthem one at a time. Cast BoL/WoW as needed if any the mobs ever turn their attention to you to get them back on the pet.

Lvl 43 Necro here, this is my tactic, works 9 out of 10 times. This example is for a group of 4 mobs, group of 3 is even easier

Of course, have all your buffs and ward on, blah, blah.

Begin casting Chains of Torment (Root) on mob #1, when it is about 3/4 the way through the cast, send pet after mob #2 (preferable caster).

Quickly target mob #3 and cast Swarm of Bats, Ghastly Stench (or two other fast casting dps spells), and Hounds/rats. By this time, your chains is refreshed, so Terror (fear) the 4th mob and Root quickly.

At this point, your pet is on Mob #2, Mob #1 and Mob #4 are rooted, while Mob #3 is going down quickly from hounds and dots.

Now, you'll want to re-Root Mob #1, basically keeping Mob #1 and Mob #4 rooted until Mob #2 and Mob #3 are dead. In my experience, Mob #2 and Mob #3 often die simultaneously.

At this point, I will Stun either Mob #1 or Mob #4 and send in the pet and nuke down quickly, leaving only one mob left, which I continue to keep rooted until the other is dead. Rinse and repeat for final mob.

This works great in open areas and sufficiently (with a bit of work) in dungeons, such as the new Splitpaw zones.
