<DIV>As a lvl 45 necromancer I decided to go try the early release part of the new Splitpaw expansion. After doing a /claim and examing the stone I had to relog to get the quest. Excited I soon entered the teleporter to find myself in the new instance. First gnoll was a single blue con that I easily defeated. Now keep in mind that I have an adept 3 pet and adept 3 Skinrot, most of my other spells are adept 1 or app 4. The next mobs I came across were 4 lvl 46 single arrow down gnolls. I sweated a bit since I know necros have a hard time fighting multiples.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Well I decided to try it. I sent the pet in on one, then casted rotting hounds on the other. As soon as my pet damaged the one gnoll I sent him to another. The fourth gnoll I feared, luckily it held. So with two gnolls on my pet, one on me with hounds on it, and one feared I proceeded to nuke. My health went down steadily and I cursed myself for not putting on grisly stele. Luckily I won with a sliver of life left. Next fight was 4 gnolls, lvl 45, single arrow down and this time I put grisly stele on (app 1 no less). This time the fight went much smoother. Needless to say this is a hard dungeon but can be soloed at least by a 45 necro. Some fights I lost especially to enchanter gnolls or me doing something stupid. The enchanters will stun you so you can't cast or drain you so you can't cast your high level spell which was my siphon life. Oh yeah siphon life is a lifesave in there without that I would have died alot more. Also I used invis alot to get past mobs I knew I couldn't win. Overall not bad exp. and I made about 15 gold in less than two hours doing the instance multiple times. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>My one wish is to have our tank pet have an aoe taunt <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Any other necros do this instance and what experience have you had?</DIV>

<DIV>What I do:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I cast ward on myself.  I target a gnoll and send my pet on it and soon as my pet starts to move I target another and ready stun.  I target another and just go about my business of dot and nuking.  (make sure your pet is toggled to NOT attack MOBS on attacking you)  Cast your accursed cloud for the lil bit of healing and cast siphon life when its up.  Recast ward when you can and bam you win.  Basically.  My pet tanks one and I take the other 3.  Burn em down and when pet finishes with his put it on another.    I've done the instance twice.  The gold is quite weak imo and the drops are all tradeskill crap.  I can harvest if I wanted to get tradeskill stuff. 19 silver to a vendor is almost not even worth wasting the time.</DIV>

<P>I do mostly what Giga does. Except, I don't ward as much. I ward at the beginning of the fight and thats it. I just cast my AE's over and over again and the mob's health just ticks away. Very easy encounter. However, do be aware of the deceiver's, etc. stifles.</P> <P>My in-combat health regen item helps me for this fight. I've done this instance tons and tons of times and SoE nerfed the loot to crap.</P> <P>Nodeus of Iniquity</P><p>Message Edited by Nodeos on <span class=date_text>06-19-2005</span> <span class=time_text>12:17 AM</span>

<DIV>Necros dont have a hard time fighting multiples like splitpaw throws at you majority of the time.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Id say necros are prolly in the top 3 classes for fighting multi mob group fights solo with using BoL/WoW and having the pet tank all the mobs then picking them off while not having to tank any the stuff yourself.</DIV>

<P>With any tank pet, I find its easiest to let Gonarer take two and I take two.  Pet attack one, dogs on that one, as soon as he gets aggro, switch to another.  I fear or root one of the other two and nuke / stun the last.  </P> <P>The only combination I have not been able to beat (from level 37 to 40 currently) is a group of 4 casters.  All others I beat from very quickly (4 melee) to kinda close (3 casters-1 melee).  As with you, I die when I do something stupid, like not run when its clear things are going bad, or target the wrong mob or cast a wrong spell.  </P> <P>I think the instance is great because there are no "easy" fights.  Its a challenge.    </P> <P>  </P>

<DIV>All are easy fights in there with my necro at 41.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>But since they nerfed chest drop rate and turned the spider gold chest off it isnt worth hunting in there anymore over feerrott.</DIV>

<div></div>Buff up and ward self.  Sic pet on nearest then target another.  As soon as pet engages click attack onto the next.   This leaves you with two at most (appart from final fight).  Cast terror on one and cast root it immediatly.   Switch to the one you have left, unload on it and it will die pretty quick.   Re-apply root and target pet and assist it in what it has left.    Once they dead then kill the one you 'parked'. This will normally see me take very little damage and works on all encounters in the instance. [edit]  in tight area's  i someimes pull the two on me to an open area to avoid them hiding in walls. <div></div><p>Message Edited by Uanelven on <span class=date_text>06-22-2005</span> <span class=time_text>04:43 AM</span>

I went through at lvl 25, but it took a LONG time.  At lvl 27 I've have to zone out with my tail between my legs pretty much every time.  I'm still relatively new to pet control, but it seems to me that at this level I have very limited resources to take out group mobs.  I generally sic the pet on each mob in succession, until all 4 are on him, then I pick them off one by one with DoT's and my modest nukes.  Problem is at some point, even my casting single target nukes will aggro the rest.  I've tried having my pet evenly beat on the mobs to keep hate across the board..sometimes it works...sometimes not.  I just upgraded Boon of the Lifelss to adept 3, so perhaps that will help.  I'm just frustrated because I went though before at lower level and now I get beat up every time. <img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

Use boon of lifeless while engaged in combat - it generates hate towards your pet

For  winning group encounter, I always cast Boon of Lifeless  during battle. No need to run around and use root to park. Send pet on closest mob in a group, the rest will come after you. Retarget any mobs that are banging on you and send pet again. Then cast Boon of Lifeless. Sometimes need to cast one more time. Once all the mobs are on the pet, dot and nuke the mob that is on your pet down. If any mob turn their attention to you, cast Boon of Lifeless again. Generally 4 casters are the easiest to kill due to their low hp.  If the pet damage mitigation gets a boost in the new combat revamp, it would be very sweet. <div></div>

To be honest.  The problem with this thread is that what is relevant for some is not for another.  Due to the scaling nature of the zone you can be in 20s-40s fighting in there.  Try it and stick with what works best for you for your level.

Thanks for the tip on BoL...never casted it in combat before I saw this thread...now it's the difference between /yelling and easily killing those 4 caster groups in Splitpaw. Though BoL does work for other encounters, I've found it's much quicker to just sic the pet, root, stun, send in the rats, and nuke the crap out of everything for the most part. <div></div>
