Yeah Im also trying to learn how to kite mobs. I bet alot of it has to do with our stuns.
<DIV>ok here is how I do it. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1st you need a pristine imbued shadowed hex doll, I might have name wrong it's the one that gives +7 agi.</DIV> <DIV>2nd it is a good idea to have a imbued wand for damage on the run in cast something goes wrong (and it takes no mana to use and 0 recast). </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>so once you have this go to your favorite hunting spot, for me everfrost was fun, killed alot of mammoths, tundra terrors, as well as iceberg by doing this. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>ok have your pet out but on standby you dont want it to attack right away. </DIV> <OL> <LI>pick your target</LI> <LI>get *just* within range and cast Raveous clinging stench (snares mob)</LI> <LI>queue plague of rats </LI> <LI>once plaque of rats is cast start running, the mob will probably be right on your butt by now. </LI> <LI>use your hex doll (good idea to have in your hotbar, and very important that this sticks)</LI> <LI>run for a few seconds to get some distance between you and the mob, by now the snare from raveous clinging stench is almost done. recast it.</LI> <LI>at this point depending on how far away you are and if nothing resised you can prolly get 1 or 2 damage spells off, like siphon life and swarm of bats. </LI> <LI>once mob is down to 80-85% send the pet to attack</LI> <LI>rinse and repeat</LI></OL> <P>once the hex of shadows (hex doll snare) gets to like 40-30 seconds recast it, this will give you enough time to recast a second time just in case you get resisted. If you loose the stench snare due to a resist dont panic, keep hex of shadows on, sprint to get some distance stop and recast. </P> <DIV>You do not need to use ravous clinging stench but if you dont you wont get alot of distance between you and the mob to stop and cast other damage spells, you'll pretty much have to keep using the wand and it takes longer if that is your only damage. If you can keep both the stench and hex of shadows on the mob it will move very slow, slow enough you can run for a few seconds, start a HO, run a few more seconds and finish it, or just keep piling on the dot's</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If done right you should be able to drop a white or yellow ^^ mob in approx 3-4 min max. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>edit: Also, if you get resisted you can have your pet back off. sprint to get distance. stop and use terror (provided you dont have rats out) this should give you enough time to get stench back on and possible a few more spells. And I have noticed that if the mob catches you there is about a 50-50 chance the mob will become bugged and it will keep porting to you. this has happened to me a number of times but only when the mob got right on top of me. no matter how long or far I sprinted it kept porting right to me and hitting me, only option was to feign death or pray I can get to the end of the mobs range so it would reset. </DIV><p>Message Edited by Ponno on <span class=date_text>06-18-2005</span> <span class=time_text>05:54 PM</span>
<P>well pretty much what I wouldve typed....but good to know about that porting thing....I thought it was a fluke the 1st couple times that happened (back to back no less). I'll have to add the extra effort to stay ahead of them</P> <P> </P> <P>A side not on the excellent post above..... I kite too and I also have the 10th level Telminas Pulsating Feedback...thats yet another 29% snare....</P> <P> </P> <P>Sooo,</P> <P>My method is same as his for the kite but I start it off different.</P> <P>1. root (chains)</P> <P>2. Hex doll. ....this is by far the longest cast time...but, like a wand, you can activate it on the move (cant cancel it once its casting).</P> <P>3. Clinging stench.....a 40th level training option. Sorry lower level folks, but when you get there life will be grand. Until then use the 10th level option and the hex doll......</P> <P>4. Telminas Pulse......fast cast and when thats applied you can breathe easier. </P> <P>5. if the root still holding start your series of dots and such.....as soon as it breaks you get another root in.</P> <P>6. siphon from pet</P> <P>7. cast dogs (another option.....rats will do or perhaps are better depending on your level)</P> <P>8. Dogs willl break the root pretty much so thats another free dot from the chains <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> .....now send pet and cast Clinging stench again</P> <P>9. now Pulse (its a shorter duration.</P> <P> </P> <P>*** Essentially your sole purpose is to ensure the snares stay up right off the bat...THEN send in the pets and stuff.....1 snare and you have to run hoping not to get stunned...get a 2nd one on there and you will be much better off and able to cast things again other than a wand only....if you are lucky enough to have that 3rd snare....its bliss (if it doesnt resist when you need it most). </P> <P>Cast when you can but thats not your job. Every 2 or 3 cycles of doing the Clinging Stench and then the Pulse I would then start the Hex Doll (usually when I wanted to run to the other side of the mob to start going back the other direction since it casts while running...and nothing is more frustrating than a mob auto-returning to start when you almost had it dead).</P> <P>Again....snares are life. Thats your main concern over all other things......well, probably tied right up there with watching for adds.</P> <P> </P> <P>10th level option Pulse = 29% snare</P> <P>Shadow Hex Doll = 22-27% (I believe I get 27% easy....thats a T3 doll too)</P> <P>40th level Clinging Stench = 29% more...</P> <P> </P> <P>about 90% reduction is funny....and they probably will nerf it. Why? Well when they take stacking issues away....then imagine 2 necros and a couple hard hitting warlocks in there, yeah. They're known for that "not working as intended" bat.</P> <P>Pick your training options wisely.</P> <P> </P> <P>Nomicon on Oasis</P>

<P>Thanks for the 2 excellent posts guys! I'll have to try it out when i get home from work. If anyone has anything else to add, please do!</P> <P>Skelly</P> <P>47 Half-Elf Necro - Grobb</P>
<P>I would also like to say something about adds. </P> <P>I've found you can do 1 of two things about them </P> <OL> <LI>if it is only 1 solo mob kill it also. I would have my pet attack while still kiting (i run large circles). and when I cam within range I would use my wand on it, provided I had enough time on the snares. <BR></LI> <LI>Solo mobs will not chase you as far as ^^ mobs will. So since I run in circles I try to stay close to the point where the mob started. if I do aggro more than solo mob and have to run, I try to run back to where the mob started and then some more. chances are you will loose the adds. </LI></OL> <P>Everfrost wasn't too bad for adds I think. most ^^ are either non aggro or stationary (tundra terrors) everything else like giants, bears and pilgrims you should be able to outrun without making the mob you kiting reset. Although for me the ranges at which the mobs will chase you took me a few times to figure out. I did run out of range several times, including with tundra jack after I killed iceberg and had him down to 45% :smileymad:</P> <P> </P>
<DIV>Adds adds adds.....</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>ok...so you are fighting one and one pops on you....if pet has aggro then you can TERROR the add, watch it wander aimlessly then away and then you root it.......</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Return back to main mob keeping in mind the timer for the add to reapply the root.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Other options...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>when kiting, as in my example, ok that mob alread slow as it is....weigh your options to take the hit and root it or stun/root (takes longer).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Or even better.,......the slowed mob you are kiting is reall mad at you anyway and will chase you anyway.....sick the pet on the add and it should pull the aggro long enough for you to concentrate on the kite.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now that mob is paying attention to the pet.....you still have your dogs and such for the kite mob. on your next pass you then pause, root that add, then recall pet at same time during casting.........pet will leave and not break the root.....</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>sick the pet back on the main kite </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>or something like that.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Nomicon</DIV>

Just be aware that most caster mobs will not kite very well and will stop and nuke you to hell if they cant catch you in melee.

<P>I like reading these kiting strategy threads <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P> <P>I noticed alot of people using roots. I had been ignoring them as I didn't realize that they were too reliable. But maybe I was wrong. Whats best for our roots? the chains of torment or our lower level one? Would it be important to get an adept 3 to make our root reliable enough?</P> <P>By the way, I have been dying lately (on some bad kites) after using our feign death. Did they nerf it back to what the spell description says?</P>

I just had another idea for kiting - ever been in a situation when you are pretty much out of power, but can't drain your pet as he is too far away and hitting the mob that you are trying to stay away from? Why not tell the pet to back off. That will get him closer to you so that you can grab some mana and you can keep kiting.

<DIV>Geckoskin, I dont know if you have ever tried kiting the Sludge creep just outside runnyeye but if you try to kite that named evil eye it will just stop and drop 500+ damage nukes and dots on you.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>And that is with the hex doll and 40 trainer dot snare on it. Its cast range for whatever reason seemed longer then a players.</DIV>

i tried the T3 doll in EF and have only gotten it to stick once, i guess you need the T4 doll for the higher level mobs?

<P>If you are level 40+ I would recommend getting the T5 one, rare if you have the funds. I am using a T5 rare in EF at the moment and only get resisted 1 out of maybe 30+ tries. Also, the timer seems to vary if you get a partial resist I geuss, so pay attention to how long is left. I try to recast it when it is down to 50 secs or so just in case of one resist, as the spell always seems to drop at arouind 30s for me.</P> <P>I am only 42 atm, and the tundra terrors gave me a few problems with adds in that area, and 2 deaths as consequences, so I moved back a little ways to the cave exit and have been kiting the snow cougar things and it has been much smoother. There is a little bowl in the snow that is great for kiting them and you can get in about 4 before the first one repops. At about 2% per kill this is great exp for me, and it only takes 3-4 minutes to kill them depending on resists etc.</P> <P>I havent been in EF long, but this appears to be the best place for me at the moment, because there are no aggressive wanderers. I may stay here awhile and hone my skills, then move on to the TTs and become more familiar with the lay of the land. Also, the TT were either very orange or red to me, so resists were more frequent.</P> <P>I currently use the level 40 training snare and my hex doll, but think I am about to respec to get the level 10 snare option too. Right now, it cuts it kind of close when casting a 2 sec spell (like the level 40 training option, or my packhounds) if only the hex snare is landed. </P> <P>I am still getting used to using the camera zoomed all the way out and looking behind me, and timing my spells just right, but I believe it is coming along well and I am enjoying the challenge. I kited a bit in EL and Feerrott, but the mobs there (all ^^ or named like the bouncers and Chomper for HQs, and other melee named) didnt hit for near as much as they do in EF, and they also had considerably less hp. Most the time I would just use my snare doll, my wand and send in my pet and dogs at the beginning. Now I am faced with harder opponents that can 2 shot kill me, or even one round me if they get a stun off, so things are much more interesting and fast paced.</P> <P>I still havent even been to LS, so if anyone has any other suggested kiting spots there or elsewhere in EF, I am all ears. I will try to post the nice spots I find out there and any new strategies I come up with.</P> <P>Thanks,</P> <P>Eirgorn</P>

I really should know this but I haven't tried kiting yet - is there any in-combat speed buffs in eq2? In eqlive a SoW made all the difference when kiting.

The only one I am aware of is a Ranger skill called Forester's Insight that buffs their in combat speed by 5% or so at level 27.
<DIV>Okay....good to know. For a necro though its near worthless unless you intended to be my 2nd pet.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As for another post I made ....upcoming /respec (i think...havent verifed it yet)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV><A href="http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=spellart&message.id=53676" target=_blank>http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=spellart&message.id=53676</A></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>ok....word of advice. 3 snares are downright awesome....level 10, level 40 and a hex doll....</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Be forewarned......nerf bats come. Personally, I would really advise you all drooling at the chance to have 2 training snares plus that hex doll to wait until a combat revamp to see if something has majorly changed for the better....or worse. Or if some toad from another class complains you can solo a ^ ^ and he cant......you know they do.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>For those of us that do have at least 1 and the hex doll....or all 3....we at least have that option to get out of that problem.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So far though, this is a stacking issue and not an exploit that I can tell....just smart casting.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Food for thought.......WHEN stacking issues are gone from necros (read that somewhere it will happen soon).....then dual necros could achieve a similar effect...add a warlock and its pretty bad stuff for kiting. Think big picture.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>save the /respec is my advice.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Enjoy</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Nomicon</DIV> <DIV>on Oasis</DIV> <DIV>"Dead or Alive you're coming with me".</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>
I have the tier 5 hex doll, but it's not the rare one. I have about the same resist rate about 1 in 25-30 casts

<P>I read your other post first about getting another /respec with the combat changes, and I still have my original /respec. I was planning on using it tonight to get the level 10 snare and get rid of my fallen hero, and then use the other one at a later date when my dogs arent as good as my rats, and just in case they nerf the snare stackings.</P> <P>If anyone sees any flaws with my plan please point them out. Its been a long morning : (</P> <P>Eirgorn</P>

<DIV>Thanks sony for nerfing kiting and root/doting caster mobs. I duno if you guys have tried it but it was possible to solo menagerie, vault of flames, maiden's gultch and more, but the nerf bat hits us quickly... and the only one left that we can solo is vault of flames. As if our class wasn't already bugged and needs serious revamping, we get hit, thanks sony now we really can't solo anything <EM>good</EM>.</DIV>

<P> Mrgrimm, how can you say kiting is nerfed - have you tried it? You must be doing something wrong.</P> <P>At level 45 i have been hiting everfrost. I have been doing the left side of zone, can't remember the names of the mobs though, but they are ^^ and give great exp. However, these mobs give poor loot. </P> <P><FONT color=#cc00ff><STRONG>Does anyone else have any great kiting locations to share?</STRONG></FONT> Is there anywhere you can kite and also make good coin? (I had been hiting the circle in permafrost but they added a bunch of wandering mobs that ruin kiting)</P>
