Ok guys heres the thing I got a lvl 8 mage now (my third alt) and was wondering how good Necros really are; as back in EQ1 I loved them. Basically If I betray I can have him join my guild (good only) but they have a channel so I can still stay in touch If I don't. Therefore if Necro's seem fun and/or uber enough I'm willing to have him stay evil. But I heard they umm... (word not soo rude).... Hurt the class and it's not as good as it once was. What are your thoughts guys?

My froglok recently finished betrayal... worth it or not I love not seeing too many of my race in the walls of FP

You can join your good-alligned guild even if you're evil...hell, you can still be a patron and do writs that count toward your guild lvl. Necros are fun, no where near as powerful as in eq1...but fun nonetheless <div></div>

Guild is not too strict but the few rules they have I listen to cause it's a great guild and I love it.</DIV> <DIV>But that still doesn't answer my question so I'll add more.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Do we still get Lich, Life taps, Life drain DOTs? and snaring DOTs?</DIV>

Lich is very high level, you wont get a LT until level 30ish, DoT's you have, and instead of snaring DoT's you have rooting DoT's which also come avail at around level 30. Our biggest asset at this time is our pets. Necro's between eq1 and eq2 are very different, and it takes approx 30 levels to finally start feeling like a real necro, but we are fun. Each class has their issues, but I have found playing a class that I don't like gets old very fast. If you are a necro at heart, then by all means become a necro. What I would suggest to you is if your guild is good only talk to some officers/leaders and see if they have anyone in the guild that may want to have an evil alt. That way you can start an "evil faction" to your guild. That way its still the same people, but just an evil version of the guild. Could also be a good way to get promoted to an officer/leader by starting the guild if there is enough demand. My favorite quote from Space Balls "Good is stupid".</DIV> <DIV>Good luck with any decision you choose.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

You are best just forgetting everything about the old eq1 necro. This is totally different. Play necro if you like the idea of it and wanna try out the eq2 necro (which i love btw). You'll be dissapointed if you pinning your hopes on the same play style of eq1. <div></div>

<P>I wouldn't plan on doing to much root rotting, or root and nuke as a necro. Our dots will keep breaking roots, and the combination of fairly weak nukes and long recast root timers does not make it very efficient. </P> <P>You'll probly either be pet tanking or kiting, unless something is changed in the near future. Which isn't that bad considering the tanks upgraded to adept III are pretty durable.</P>

<DIV>Inc long post... what can I say, i love my necro!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I started a necro cuz ... well i thought their pets were really cool. Thats a reason I start alot of toons, cuz i see something I like and I wanna try it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The first 10 levels went as every first 10 levels went. Fast, with no real recognition. I got my first pet at 10, and couldn't afford adept so i bought app4. It was a gigundous bug. I mean HUGE. I still summon him now and then and then have my warlock friend turn him into a frog that is as tall as I am. VERY funny. I stumbled through my teens, pet tanking and trying not to die before my pet did. It was a struggle because I soloed most of the time.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>When i hit level 20, and got my first illusion spell, I was in love. Skelly illusion rocks, you laugh when you jump. I spent many hours running and jumping and laughing my fool head off. I could then afford adept 1 & 3's so I got all my spells adept 1 and my pets adept 3. I didn't get the tradition pet, so my early 20's were an interesting experiment in soloing, but i could kick some major [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] in groups. I got pretty close to my warlock friend in dps with my caster pet, and I had an extra fast cast dot I could use cuz I didn't use that tradition for a pet.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>By 25, I so enjoyed the class I gave up my then-32 warden and made the necro my main. The combination of some fun spells (summoning a hoard of rats is funny!) and some pretty decent dps and having the ability to still do dps even on those rare occasions I ran out of power (wee for pets!) made me do more sustained dmg and i could get close to my warlock friend when the fights lasted long enough for both of us to get low on mana. Tapping my pet and timing my dots to refresh as they were about to fall off became a game, trying to figure out the perfect order to cast my spells to maintain the most dots while not sucking all my power away.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>At 30, I got my rotting packhounds, and that BY FAR is not only the coolest spell (Cant' tell ya how many times i hear "What the hell are those things?!") but it does some kickass dps and i only have it resisted on mobs considerably few levels higher than me.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>My only gripes about the class: Our pets always look the same. I wish our tank pet could look cooler, i mean that blank stare of my zombie pet gets really old lol. I love the warlock pets, flaming skellies are cooool! But they can't take a hit so mine doesn't get to come out to play very often. Also, spells take too long to cast, so in groups of even or one down arrow like in exp groups, i rarely get more than one spell cast before the mob is dead. Oh yeah, and they need to fix our Misty Image illusion, us female necros get turned into guys. with beards. its ugly. /sniff</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If you are expecting an EQ1 necro, you will be disappointed. If you are looking for a fun class, with decent (not the best, but pretty good) dps, kickass pets, and some really cool spells, play a necro. I've never had so much fun with a class in a LONG time.</DIV>
