I have to ask this question because in my times of playing this game I have only once grouped with a necromancer. Not because I personally feel they are a weak class, I just rarely see one. Honestly I know nothing at all about the eq2 necromancers except for what I have read on this board. And reading these posts does not paint a very good picture of the necromancer class. Every post is something negative. So my question is, is the necromancer class really that broke/bad or is everyone [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot]ing so much because they were hoping that the eq2 necromancer would be like the gods they were in eq1? There is a big difference there and I am such looking to get peoples thoughts. I just started a summoner/necromancer last night, but before I start making my adept 3's for him, I wanted to find out if the class is really that broke. I have 6 rares for t2 and 3 for t3 so I don't want to waiste those on a broke class. Looking for honest opinions. Thanks.

No, we aren't nearly as bad as these boards make us out to be, but we are still somewhat broke in certain areas.

You would be smart to stick with it, because a well played necro can do alot that people dont expect from us, even with our broken spells/pets.

And after some of the pet changes, and maybe a few power effeciency issues, i bet our class will be one of the most powerful.

I would say (and in truth I'm nowhere near end-game) that most of the complaints are based in fact, though certainly blowns out of proportion. The Pet Problems, there's no getting around it... They have problems. There are also some issues I have with some spells, but in the final analysis I'm having a great time playing a necromancer and they are far from useless. Whether solo or group, I can still get the job done and enjoy playing it. I didn't play EQ1 so maybe it is harder for some folks to go from Uber to present, than for a clean slate.

A well played necro is alot of fun and a great asset to the grp.

Only problem is the late takeoff and the great difficulty to play it well.

Basically you will remain a summoner till lvl 32ish, thats where the necroting spells start rolling in.

Also be prepared to use your lvl 13 nuke for a loooong time

I've a very hard time playing summoner from 10-20 (expected too much since I come from EQ1's necromancer). At 20, after getting Fallen Hero, the necromancer starts to gain power. You might not kill mobs fast like a wizard/warlock but you have endless power and can take on hard single target mob. Soloed a named derv that hit for 160 a hit at level 20. At 24, soloed the 2 epicx2 level 18 orcs for lightbringer quests. Can take on any 1-2 yellow and below con mobs (no up arrow), caster or none caster without much problem. You can simply run their power dry and kill them. Also, if you do tradeskilling, getting power from pet is very nice. If you really want to nuke, get an imbued flame/poison wand that has endless clicky 100++ nuke. Overall I prefer having a pet that can tank and provide endless dps than bigger nuke.

Personally I love the class. I played a Necro in EQLive and here in EQ2. Yeah there are some things that could make our class a little better but it will all come in due time.

Being a 47 Necro on Nek the one thing that I find a lot is getting groups can still be a bit of a problem unless it is a raid or an XP grind group. Trying to get a group to kill X MOb for Y quest is still hard. We are excellent in long encounters with the Pet "Power Battery" and our DoT's. However I find once I do get in a group I usually get invites from the same people when I am on. Being only 27 Necro's on our box are ahead of me in Level most likely most people have not had a chance to group with one and have only heard the "negatives" of our class. I still get Guild invites all the time, and have even grouped with one of the "powerhouse" guilds this weekend and they stated "we could use a high level Necro". This is a guild of over 300 peeps and no 40+ Necro!?!?!?

Starting a Summoner/Necro is the really hard part for us. Until the Mid 30's we really don't feel like Necro's to anyone (even ourselves). We are a weak Caster with a pet. I remember when I started playing there were about 300 Summoners LFG in CL all the time. It seemed that everyone was a Summoner on their way to Necro Coolness. However I rarely see one now near my level when playing. So the real key to enjoying your Necro is to stick with it and break that 1-35 slump. After that you will have more friends on your list than you can count.

This is how the class framing is suppose to be..Tank - Scout/Assassin - DPS CastersHP > >DPS < <Healer - Mezzer - DPS CasterUtility > >DPS < < And most posts are negetive, because Necros don't meet upto the above expectations till atleast 38.5. (In my openion till 43)Necros are suppose to be at par with other DPS Caster classes. But as they say Necros shine only in "Long Drawn Fights." Let me ask you this, in every day to day playing, how many Raid mobs do you come accross? If you don't find a group in the first place till you are in your 40s, how are you suppose to get to 40s even? I would never say, just because I play a Necro, I am uber, and other Necros don't know how to play! See every message on the "newbie" boards for "best groups" etc., no one ever mentions even "N" for Necros! But matter of the fact is Necros can solo single/2 solo mobs (yellow/orange cons) well. DPS wise we stand good till high 20s. Come to 2nd/3rd position in group till high 30's. Level 40-50 I am not sure!

Anybody who won't group with a necro is just stupid. It's their loss.

Message Edited by Qrgauthil on 05-26-2005 11:53 AM

I had no problem getting groups on Permafrost until about level 46/47, but I think that has more to do with the population of players in the high levels than it does with necro issues.
