Just dinged 24, scribed my Adept 1 undying adherant, buffed him and I am pretty disapointed, he dosent seem to take hits very well and dosent tdo too much damage. My Adept 3 Telluriun crawler took hits way better but he stopped levling. Anyone else expreince this? Even the Grim Spellbinder is better as at least he does nice DPS and I can kite with him

I found my Fallen Hero did much better at tanking at that lvl. Although using UA at lvl 30 he seemed to be better than before with training pet buff. If you don't have Fallen Hero I personally would consider respec-ing. Fallen Hero is that much better imo. I still use him at 34 in certain situations. But it just all depends on what you do mainly. He solos lots better then UA. Also if you have a tank in a group that can't seem to hold arrgo off of you, FH can jump in there and sometimes pull them off of you and save your butt. At that lvl you can fire off petrify and sick FH on them, when petrify wears off, FH will have them, instead of them having you. I know he has saved me lots of times fighting mobs under lvl 32. Hope this helps.

Rusttin Blackheart

34th Necromancer

Brothers in Arms

Mistmoore server

Totally agree FH >> UA. I had the Adept 3 UA starting at 24 and I never used him (except every now and then to re-confirm FH was still better) until FH stopped leveling.

I think FH is a bit better even at level 33 (when FH is level 32). At 34 I have cut the cord with FH and now use UA exclusively. UA can tank pretty well and the dps is starting to increase, but I still wish FH worked for 14 levels like other pets!

Greatscott

do you just type /respec to respec?

I had to spec when I came back after 4 months 2 weeks ago, can I still respec?

I took the opal seal becuase several posts mentioned they still use it at lvl 50

Yes, type /respec. I have not done it myself so I am not real sure what will happen. I think you can only respec once and it will take you thru all your training opporunities again. I took the pet buff at 30 training which made FH silly stong. Agitation and Boon are fine until then imo.

Rusttin Blackheart

I heard the pack of dogs was the choice to make at 30, is that an additional pet like a rat swarm or a regular pet?

I agree that FH is better than UA at level 24. I had UA Adept III and used FH instead. I switched over to UA at level 33, respeced and got opals as the level 20 training option. While I was disappointed with him earlier, at level 34, I am very satisfied with the UA. He tanks just fine. I did notice an improvement after buffing him with opal's rather than agitation adept I. Also, I took the dogs at 30 and they are excellent. They're not another pet but rather essentially a longer lasting powerful dot with cool graphics, like swarm of rats only a lot better (I only had App IV swarm of rats and they weren't even close to dogs). 34 AdIII UA can successfully tank red lvl 40 solo mob (haven't tried any higher) or lvl 29 ^^ or 30 ^^ solo mobs, depending on my luck. He may be able to do better but that's the best I have been able to do.

Pack of dogs is 2 dogs, at adpt1, similar to rats but better dmg. I have seen them in action and they are nice. My logic for my choice of pet buff was that i get plauge of Rats at 36 or so but have to wait till 39 for pet buff upgrade. I have heard that the rats upgrade is better than the dogs. Also you get bats at 35. People that solo a lot seem to be a fan of the dogs. It is really hard to get a good comparison beyond opinion because peeps ethier took one or the other. So hard to tell which is better. I guess I have steered my pet toward defense rather that increasing my offence. In soloing if he can hold them i can slowly kill them with my dots and nukes. If you put too much dps on them, too fast, all that will happen is they will be on you. The fact is that he will hold better arrgo with the buff than without. I personally have not seen a huge difference between Rats and Dogs as far as dps. And with the buff you still have the rats. I tend over-aniylize everything though.

Rusttin Blackheart

There are 3 dogs in training spell, 2 rotting packhounds and a rotting brutehound I think (not in game right now). I also believe they are adept II. The dogs are much better than swarm of rats but I also heard that lvl 37 plague of rats at Ad III are better than the dogs, and last longer. I'm not saying dogs is a better choice than pet buff because I just don't know, but they work well for me. My real point though is although I was disappointed with UA as a tank at first, he's coming through for me now.

Message Edited by Selantyr on 05-24-2005 11:17 AM

Bear in mind when comparing UA with FH that if you don't choose the FH training option you can choose a different training option. Opal's aggravating seal (the pet buff) really improves the damage output of the UA. Something to think about.

I took the training pet at 30th, why?

I have UA adept 1 and after 30 he holds his own very well. At 33 I send him in against blue and white mobs and rarely have to heal. Yellow cons depends on the type of mob.

I use my Grim Corruptor while soloing as well, again depending on the mobs.

For instance for fast killing of greens/blues (Tallon Patrolman/Tallon Grunts) I use the GC. All the underwater mobs in Zek I use the GC as well (even the 34-35th level ones).

In EL I rotate for the fun of it when killing the underwater mobs. I use the UA for the rest.

I never had the Fallen Hero and have never been disappointed because it made me learn better tactics.

If we ever get another respec I may go hounds but stick with it. I find I get faster experience steamrolling over the blues/greens then fighting whites/yellows.

The Grim Corruptor has been a great asset in groups when he is not fullfilling the master tank role. I have a lot of folks who were surprised at the GCs performance and several of the folks hated the hounds because they are so big and hinders their view.

So my final point is: The UA is not very bad especially if you have the lvl 20 training buff and I have never died because of him not performing well. I die because I pull that big group of mobs by accident )

Message Edited by Brickyard on 05-26-2005 08:41 AM

I thought they were all single mob spells. The dogs last until the mob is dead. Do the bats do something different?

At lvl 34 at least, the dogs never get hit enough die.

I tried FH but all the mobs I was fighting were eating him and spitting him out compared to the UAIII I was used to. UAIII took me right up to RT fighting spiders & turtles amoung other things in EL. Back in the early days I was killing bears & skele's near CL ZL inside Nek and FH was getting eaten alive there, UAIII could take the beating a ton better. However that being said I am a fairly fast killer and most of my fights (solo) are short and sweet, maybe FH tanks better over time or something but IMO UAIII was the bomb when I was comming up thru the lvls.

Just my 2 cents...

I never took the FH. In fact, I took the Bludgeoning Earth upgrade for the fast cast debuff and little extra damage.

Well anyway, UA Adept 3 at level 37 tanked ^^ yellows as good as a guardian the same level. I just had to lay low on the dps and focus on stun/pet heals.

I always used my UA, sometimes just for the improved power battery. Many times for offtanking situations when group gets adds. He holds his own pretty well.

On an unrelated note, a beserker MT for a group in RV had to tell me to take my Words of the Wicked off my pet because my RTIII kept stealing aggro form him. muahahahaha...
