View Full Version : Chose improved lightning burst and not improved static pulse

I am new to Eq2 and plan on becoming a necromancer. At level 10 I chose the improved lightning burst spell, but I have read that the improved static pulse is a better choice for a necromancer. I am just curious if this is something that really does not have that big of an impact overall or should I consider possibly re-rolling in order to get the improved static pulse spell. I would appreciate any feedback on this. (Thank you in advance)

Drijii - Level 12 Summoner

It all depends on how you play your necro... I use it multiple times each encounter, I did a little dabase analysis and since I started parcing (around lvl 25) I've used static pulse almost 22k times! (at 4 I missed the lvl 40 specialized training for the slow ghastly stench but hopefully the combat system will be revamped so much we'll get to /respec again =) I hear other people like the short DD with stun cause it helps turn HO wheels faster, but I'd rather slow the mob /crosses fingers for another respec!

In the grand scheme of things this shouldn't be the cause of a respec.

I don't think you need to respec really but personaly i found the improved magi shield to be better for necro since it also increases the life of your minions, helps keep those silly rats alive untill you can get the lvl 30 training spell for the dogs

Well I'm still a new necro myself, and I went with the DD as opposed to the static pulse. Although im not sure if I made the right decision, I do know that it has helped me a lot because the dust blast DD is a joke (at lease the appIV is). We get more dots eairlier on than we do DD, and the fast reset timer helps too. I cant count how many times I pulled aggro a lil too eairly, and the mob resisted all of my roots/stuns.

Shrug

Thank you all very much for your replies and valuable comments. I think I will just continue on with my char the way he is (I thought cycling the HO wheel faster was a really good point). Just curious, do necros get any other snare spells later on that could duplicate the effect of the improved static pulse?

Once again, thank you in advance.

Driji - 13 Summoner

Snare is definatly valuable if you plan on soloing..but honestly I'd go for Camtur's..it's a spell that you only get once and you make it benefit your pet as well...and you can get a snare at 40 that does a lot more damage. Grouping is way faster xp anyhow. As soon as Sony gets off their collective faarbutt's we'll be more popular in groups..and honestly if you know what you're doing you're still not THAT disliked. I have yet to have a problem.

For slows I use a pristine fright imbued hex doll (9-12% attack speed slow) and a pristine shadow imbued hex doll (20-24% movement slow) when soloing. I use the attack speed slow doll in various other situations like when my pet has to off-tank a 50+^^ or against some epic mobs that are beating down the tank.
