First off, I'm new to EQ2.  Only been playing about 3 weeks but I'm a 6 year vet of EQ1 so I'm not a complete newb.I just hit 34 the other night and have been in Zek keeping the orc population down.  The past 5 nights I have had people sending me "fishing" tells to see if I'm afk exp grinding.  I've probably gotten tells from about 15 different people, half not even in the zone.  Now, when I grind I GRIND.  I'm killing everything I see and I'm all over the place as long as I don't think I'm stepping on anyone's toes that's in the area.  I also usually grind at night, 3-8 am eastern, so there's rarely competition for the spawns. My problem here is that people sending these tells is annoying.  I get in to arguements with some of these people telling them to leave me alone.  I consider them sending tells like this to me harassment, and they send them out for no other reason than my class.  I challenge most of them to show me exactly where it says that AFK grinding would be against the rules and so far not a single one has been able to.  Don't take this as me asking for permission to go AFK and let the pet do the work because I'm very much against such practices.  I just want to know where is specifically says you can not do so.  I want to know if these people are just being self righteous pukes and harassing people because they think I might be doing something they don't approve of or it these people have a real rule to back them up.  Not that it would make the harassment "right" but it would make me a little less mad if they had a real rule to back them up.  For now I'll just hope there's no cap to the ignore list size because it's getting real full real fast.

<div>I dont have the time to look up where it says exactly "you cannot afk exp" but this is a bannable offense, as it was never intended to be able to leave the keyboard and still play the game. Conjuror's underwent a change not too too long ago where the conjuror himself had to do at least 1 point in damage to get exp, this was reversed after some time and many complaints, howeve.r Just search conjuror, one point-rule and something should come up.</div>

<div></div><p>Just having the AFK on doesnt matter. If you have a macro program killing the stuff....that is a bannable offense (something in the lines of an external program modifying game behavior - not sure exactly where it is). I knew people from eq1 that had AFK as a last name<img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />.</p><p>Couple of suggestions that works for me....</p><p>1) Say that you are ignoring them, but never do...but never respond to them...they think they ignored, but don;t know the truth <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />.</p><p>2) Ignore them</p><p>Don;t let them get you upset.....They are probably upset because you are killing better then they can in a group<img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />.</p>

<div>I didn't know that was bannable.  I thought it was kind of a borderline thing.  Anyway, I have never done, probably never will.  But there is a necro on Steamfont, Drexel, who does this [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] near all the time.  He parks right on a mob spawn in the first room of RE (with the pool).  I will have to report it  the next time I am there.  :p</div>

<div></div><p>If I did that it would be 'one dead Conjurer!!' Now, if they had a heroic ^^ or two spawn in that room randomly, would be one dead Necro..:smileywink:</p><p><font color="#ff99ff"><strong><em>* Silkwind - Runneye *</em></strong></font></p><p><font color="#ff99ff"><strong><em></em></strong></font> </p>

<div>Unattended (AFK) play is not in itself illegal according to the letter of the rules of conduct but using other programmes in order to do so is definitely a bannable offence. The rule in question is:</div><div> </div><div><font color="#ffff00">"You may not use any software or hardware to alter game play in any way, or to gain benefits from unattended game play."</font></div><div> </div><div>The major problem with AFK play is when people use bots/macros in order to do so, which is definitely against the rules. A conjuror or Necro killing by pet reaction without casting anything would be OK in theory based on this rule.</div><div> </div><div>Any behaviour that the company deems to be unwanted may result in banning though, whether or not it is in the rules. You will receive warnings and be told to stop the behaviour in question by an SoE employee. If you then continue to do it despite being told not to you fall foul of another rule:</div><div> </div><div><font color="#ffff00">"You will follow the instructions of authorized personnel while in EverQuest II or on the Official EverQuest II Forums."</font></div><div> </div><div>As a result, since AFK play for gain is frowned upon, even if you were not using 3rd party programmes, you might find yourself warned, then officially cautioned on repeat offence and potentially banned.</div><div> </div><div>Customer Support page is at <a target="_blank" href="http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/support.vm">http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/support.vm</a> on which you will find the Rules of Conduct link <a target="_blank" href="http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/support_article.vm?label=RulesofConduct">http://eq2players.station.sony.com/en/support_article.vm?label=RulesofConduct</a></div><div> </div><div>X</div>

<div><div>SoE is not in favor of AFK xp'ing, and made a rather sad attempt at fixing it a few months back where they required the conjuror to damage a mob with some non-pet DPS in order to get credit for the kill.  This was thankfully reversed.  I am pretty sure it is bannable, as I've heard of SoE reps sending tells to suspects to see if they are afk or not.</div><div> </div><div>I think AFK-xping is pretty lame, but witch hunts aren't cool.  Unless one is doing so against named mobs, it really doesn't affect the player base (especially in some overland T4 zone).  I get tells like this when I harvest.  I often follow set paths once I get node repops timed, and I'm sure people think I am some botting plat farmer. </div></div>

<div></div>I think some people just assume that if they see a summoner afk outside of the city that they are afk exp'ing.  I'm sure people have often thought that about me.  Quite often I'll go afk in a tradeskill instance in front of a <insert whatever device I'm working at here>, or if I'm in a zone questing and need a break I'll often AFK right there if I know everything around me is grey, intending to come back in a few minutes but then falling asleep or something then wake up the next morning to find myself still there lol.  If people are giving you a hard time I would just tell them where to go and /ignore them.  Let them report you if they want.  I'm sure the GM's/devs or whatever can look at some logs or something to see that you weren't afk exp'ing.  Based on that presumption I always try to put the pet on hold before going afk so they see that if they do look, and if I'm at a tradeskill table I'll sit down before going afk.  Best to not give the witch hunters any flaming brands....

<div></div><p>Turn your AFK off..and enjoy the game.  AFK is meant to let others that you are grouping with...know.  If soemone sends you a tell and you dont want to talk to them ..ignore it.  If they persist , add them to your ignore list.  Main thing is have fun and enjoy our game...the game that we payed our money for to play..to enjoy the rewards of years of playtime and  most excellent and exciting adventures.  I would say "Play Hard"  hehe ...I know i have a few places i can just clear out real quick. and i love to do it.  Enjoy your time and if you dont want to "chit-chat"....just ignore eveyone.  I t works for me.</p><p>  </p>
