View Full Version : Wand of the Living Flame
I keep seeing these up on the broker and have been tempted to buy one myself. My question is would it be worth it. It's a level 40 wand http://eq2.ogaming.com/db/items/WandoftheLivingFlame.phpI'm currently using a 2h staff of confusion. Scouring the broker and other places I havn't found anything better than this for level 54 under, is there something better thats attainable by myself for level 54 under? I'm level 40 now so I would buy it if it will indeed be as good/better than others for 14 levels. If not, rather than buy it I do like hunting for my gear but I'm clueless as to how common this Avulsor in obelisk is or how common he drops this or what other way is easiest to attain this wand.<div></div>
That wand has horrible stats for a mage. Do not get one.Mages want INT, not agi/str.<div></div>

Agreed, that is a horrible weapon for a Mage. Let the tanks have it, we should go after INT.

Heyhey,u want somethign nice for lvl 54? Easy, get the "Clicky Stick" <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> ... it is actually called "Yeddahs Caduceus" and can be aquired in LT. Just dropn into the first pool then clear the plaza infront of u (5 groups of solo mobs). Then either some PHs spawn or a named with 2 adds, and he is cake.In his Master chest (which does drop sometimes) u will find the Clicky Stick - with a 40% pet heal that can be used every 15 min and is a sure Lifesaver <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />Stats are not too bad either: +25 INT, +12 STA, STR, AGI, 65 HP and PWR and +5 Focus ....Oovaan, 60 Necromancer, Runnyeye<div></div>

I'm currently level 43 and usingBrewmaster's Fermentation Stick+10 int, +5 agi, +5 str+30 health, +30 powerIt drops in Runnyeye although I bought mine off broker for 10 gold from memory.<div></div>
Another question I have related to this is procs that are casted on a successfull attack, does that mean it only procs on melee attacks with the wand or with spells? The stats weren't too good, I agree, but the effect is nice no? 12% compared to rare crafted which has to be activated and I believe most other procs on fabled/legendary is 5%? Not sure on the differences in damage of the proc.<div></div>

Only melee combat would proc the Wand of the Living Flame. Spells would not.
<div></div><div></div>For a proc to trigger on a spell, it must say "hostile spell" not "attack"Like these:<img src="http://geekforhire.org/images/t6-fabled/CircletofLivingFire.png"><img src="http://geekforhire.org/images/t6-fabled/WraithTouchedNecklace.png"><div></div><p>Message Edited by Magus` on <span class="date_text">01-10-2006</span><span class="time_text">05:12 PM</span></p>
Thanks for the clarification. I usually melee from behind if I think it's not going to be too dangerous to do so. I figure if I pay an arm and a leg for a master I that does a bit more damage per cast, I could probably do the same melee so I guess the procs help a bit. I guess wand of the living flame will not be for me though.<div></div>

The risk from riposte damage and AE melee abilities isn't usually worth it.

It really is a pretty easy camp, just a matter of getting him to drop the master chest. There's a thread here that discusses how to work the camp and spawn the named - if I wasn't on such a slow connection today, I'd look it up.

<div></div><p>Yeah, the Caduceus seems like a fine weapon indeed.</p><p>So fine, that I decided to camp my little 43 gnome conjuror in the trade court of the Living tombs, log in my main (60 assassin) and decimate the camp until the fabled dropped so that I may loot it with the alt.</p><p>(the reason being is that I am afraid it might be removed from the loot table of this mob, as many fabled items were in Silent city. I feel much safer with it resting in my inventory whilst it still drops.)</p>

It is simply too easy to get such an awesome weapon from a ^ heroic mob.</p><p>I spent an hour camping this mob with my 60 conj and simply couldnt believe how easy it was to get.</p><p>As the above poster said, its a sure lifesaver and at 60 it heals my tank pet for approximately 5000HP. Impossible to sniff at this. Good stats on the weapon too although usually i use a t6 crafted want or t5 prismatic for primary and the book from the djinn master and a rare pearl secondary. You can just hotkey the cadeccus to use in emergencies.</p><p>Good luck</p>
<div></div>the name is not Yaddius Caduceus......it is simply....Da Heal Stick.....yes it is the one I use as well<img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />...For my suggesting get an imbued wand.....you cast the damage, and I usually get something the Conjuror does not get....like Divine, Posion, or Disease damage on the wand. That makes sure that you can do damage to a mob if able to resist elemental.

<div></div>I looted a Rod of Confusion the other night. I was thinking of attuning it and using it over my imbued cedar wand even, just because of the 22 INT and stifle/knockback proc. I would definitely not replace that with the Wand of Living Flame, you would be losing a whole lot of INT. I still may attune it in fact, I checked the broker and it was selling for only 75g, so I wouldn't make that much. Probably not though because at this lvl I'm getting close to my prismatic weapon which would be better I'm sure.

<div>"Prismatic 2.0" with 400+ int can proc for 500dam, so no reason to not turn attack on if you are being beat on.</div>

<div>I usually only need to melee when I'm hunting heroics with Earth Pet without waiting for Vehement Stone to recycle. Without the VS to absorb hits while pulling, you need to kill that little bit faster in order to kill the mob so the odd extra hit doesn't hurt. Same tactics as mentioned above - turn the mob with the pull and work from behind. You want some proximity to use the PB-AoE anyway. I generally don't melee, though I keep my skill maxed. It's only when I feel I need to in order to win through, that I'll do it on the whole.</div><div> </div><div>Xalmat's right though, that for many situations the risk of riposte and AoE attacks is too high. Melee has situational use and needs to be balanced with care.</div><div> </div><div>X</div>
I often melee especially when solo is why I was looking at the wand of living flame, I guess the lack of int isnt worth it though after reading this thread so I went with a rare crafted wand instead. I melee from behind until I take a bit of damage, then I know from then on not to melee that type of mob but theres more mobs that I fight lately in CT and obelisk that I never take any damage by meleeing. My DPS parses show just how bad my melee is heh but I do see seed proc every once in a while which is worth it for me.<div></div>
