View Full Version : Soloing heroics in the lower 40s - what am I doing wrong?

<DIV>I did a few searches here and the conj tower, but most of the posts that I found were either pre-lu13, or were only aplictable to higher level soloing.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I am presently a lvl 41 Conjuror with mostly ad 1s and a few ad 3s (pets, limited fire pet, pet heal) a couple master 1s (infernus seed and limited water pet) and defensive stance at M2. I can solo non heroic stuff very easily, and I can usually solo non-named heroics that are 9 or 10 levels below me (which are usually close fights), but I have read numerous posts saying that a 40+ conjuror should be able to solo blue ^^^ heroics with the right tactics which makes me think I'm clearly doign some things very wrong. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Here are the basic steps I take in a single target heroic encounter (earth pet defensive stance)</DIV> <DIV>Cast Vehement stone on pet</DIV> <DIV>Send pet to attack</DIV> <DIV>Cast Swarm of Bats</DIV> <DIV>Cast limited water pet</DIV> <DIV>Throw out a heal if pet hurting</DIV> <DIV>Cast flame based dot</DIV> <DIV>Cast limited fire pet</DIV> <DIV>Cast a pet heal</DIV> <DIV>Cast ae dot</DIV> <DIV>At this point, I try to throw in pet heals as the timer permits while chaining HOs.</DIV> <DIV>If the pet gets too low, I attempt to root the mob and back pet off</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have tried using frozen by time adept 1 at various times, but it gets resisted so often vs heroics as to feel completly useless. I have considered getting ad3 of this for resists, but the tower does not reccomend going above ad1 on it, but I think the reccomendations of the tower are more for grouping and exp soloing (quick easy kills vs harder longer solo fights). I have also considered upgrading vehement stone (for the added defense for the first 30 seconds of the fight) and geotic brand for its added pet defense (both of which are only app IV since I have not found an ad1 for sale of either)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Looking ahead in the spell list, I see that I'll get a new pet heal and a new pet defense stance next level which should make a noticable improvement in my pets survivability, but I would like to know what I could do differently or what I am overlooking in order to improve my soloing skills.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thanks</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Wikfizbik - 41 Conjuror - 55 Jeweler</DIV>
Healing is not the way to beat a heroic. Our heals suck. The one letter is even worse as the pet has even more HP, and higher level mobs hit harder. <div></div>

<DIV> <HR> I have considered getting ad3 of this for resists, but the tower does not reccomend going above ad1 on it.. <HR> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Well, those people are stupid. The stun line is an excellent one to upgrade. My Calcify at level 60 does 700-800 damage. Not to mention the amount of damage it saves due to the mob being unable to attack. As far as helping you with your tactics, I agree with laying off the pet heals. Focus on using your damage spells, that is the strength of the class IMO. Buff pet with Vehement Stone and send it in, then hit mob with Flaming Agony, Swarm of Bats, Aqueous XYZ, Roaring Flames, Frozen By Time. Rotate Spiked Rain HOs with the pet heal. Re-cast Flaming Agony, Swarm of Bats, temporary pets as needed. You will get the chance to upgrade the 42 defensive stance to master 2 at some point in the 40s, I highly recommend doing so. Also, upgrade the 38 earth pet to Adept 3 if you can. The combination of those 2 spells should make quite a difference.</DIV><p>Message Edited by StaticLex on <span class=date_text>12-31-2005</span> <span class=time_text>07:34 PM</span>

<DIV> <P>Conj can solo heroic mob very easy and very well.</P> <P>The other day I solo a lvl or 33 ^^^ in Zek I am a lvl 42 conj, I have app 4 and adapt 1 spells no 3 or master at this time.</P> <P>What you do is good but you are trying to heal, don’t waist your power.</P> <P>When I send my pet in I cast debuff on the mob “I am not sure if I make my spell resists less or not, but is cost very little power it cast”</P> <P>Next I stun the mob</P> <P>Then I cast all my DoTs & dumb Pets</P> <P>Next I get close to cast Tremor “if there are no mobs around that can agro” the knock down from the spell helps.</P> <P>Now at this point I see where the mob’s HP is in Ratio to my pet’s HP. If my Pet is looking like he will die. I cast root.</P> <P>*<STRONG>Very important note here</STRONG>*</P> <P>If root dose not hold and pet is going to die before I can recast it. Or is I cast root 2 times and dose not hold, I turn and run.</P> <P> </P> <P>Now as you can guess it is important for root to hold.</P> <P>Once root is holding I kill my pet and recast him. Your root spell should hold longer then your casting time on your pet. Once pet is up, send him in to attack. And then stun the mob. “Since our root cause agro on us. You will need the stun the mob, so your pet can take the agro off you.”<SPAN> </SPAN>And then just repeat your DoT and DD spells. This way works well for me. I have been able to solo green heroic ^^^ doing it, and even heroic ^ 3 lvl over my level. It is risky but since heroic ^^^ where not meant to be solo “or so the Dev tell us” I feel good about my class. <SPAN> </SPAN>Most Heroic, heroic ^, and heroic ^^ that are blue to me I can solo. Just as long as there are not in groups. One on one you should have no trouble taking on a heroic mob. You just need to pump out as much DPS at the start of the fight. It has been stated before that conj are one of “ if not the best” DPS for any fights that last longer that 30sec. And seeing that 30sec is about the time it takes to get my entire DoT spell up I can see why people say that. <SPAN> </SPAN><SPAN> </SPAN></P> <P>I hope this help you a bit.</P> <P> </P> <P> </P></DIV>

I only have Adept 1 of my stuns, and I've never had a problem with resists because of it. Ever. Besides that, the opportunity cost of getting an Adept 3 stun is another high priority Adept 3 spell, such as a pet, pet stance, high damage DoT, spell in the Shattered Ground line, etc. Just isn't worth it.You'll get less resists upgrading to Adept 3 Conjuror's Insignia and/or using a Chaos hex doll than you will upgrading your stun to Adept 3.<p>Message Edited by Xalmat on <span class=date_text>01-01-2006</span> <span class=time_text>07:33 AM</span>

<DIV>Agree with the others here, try relying less on healing and more on stunning. The pet heal is good to toss in between casts of the damage spells, when you're waiting for one to recycle. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'm not sure why your stun is being resisted so much, I never had that problem and all my stun spells have been at Adept1 level. By not stunning you're losing a powerful tool from your arsenal. Conjurors these days need to rely more on speed killing and stuns/stifles. The Vehement Rock line is good to start with, and after that wears off I always throw on our Shattered * line of spells to pacify the mob for 5 secs, then stun it shortly after. That's a full 10 seconds where the mob is doing nothing. At this point your pet shouldn't even be damaged, or only minimally. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>At 50 you'll get another powerful tool in your arsenal in the form of Blazing Presence. This will help your pet establish aggro solidly so you can pour on the damage fairly quickly, as well as doing a bunch of damage itself. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Edit: I'd have to disagree with feihunng's tactic of rooting the mob, then recasting the pet. I tried this, but the pet could never seem to re-establish aggro. instead, I would recommend making sure there are no dots on the mob (including aqueous pets), then root the mob when the pet is in the red while recalling the pet. Then just stand there and let the pet regen - when it's not actively engaged in combat it seems to regen faster. Re-root as neccesary, then when the pet is ready again, send it back in. I've never had any aggro issues with this tactic. The pet would roll back in there and the mob would never bat an eye in my direction. </DIV><p>Message Edited by Inuki1 on <span class=date_text>01-01-2006</span> <span class=time_text>06:54 PM</span>

First of all: Not every heroic is soloable. Some named heroics can't be soloed before they turn grey. Chief Strongarm in ToN for example will most likely hack your pet to pieces.Secondly you can most likely do solo heroics, but when they are grouped your pet will be tartar quickly. Or you (the conjuror) try to kill the rest of the group and get the agro. Even worse, because you can't even run away. And what do I do:- Use debuff hex doll and when casting is at 50% send pet in (so pet, not me gets agro when the spell hits the mob).- Cast dot- Cast aqueous temporary pet- Cast fire temporary pet- Wait just a little- Begin casting heroic opps (no Shattered Earth yet), perhaps refresh dot- Cast Vehement Stone- When mob is at 2/5th, cast Shattered Earth- Cast more heroic opps- Perhaps cast a healing spell now- Mob is dead<div></div>That's what's working for me. Good luck.If it does not: Run!Rhouvus
