Hey there,

I got out tonight and did some fairly basic initial testing on what my pets are doing in terms of noticeable effects. Here's some of the stuff I've been seeing:

Adept 3 Tellurian Myrmidon - Level 56 - Transient Haven Adept 3

He is landing an encounter AoE Knockback effect quite regularly. This did not seem to be linked to any of the named effects.

He's using Telluric Bash occasionally. Against the level 51 dustwhips this was doing 230 to 340 magic damage.

Telluric Strike seems to hit for around 220 magic damage mostly.

Telluric Roar looks like it's an AoE attack doing 180 to 310 magic damage against the scorpions.

He's using Telluric Pummel reasonably often. Against level 51 dustwhip scorpions this attack was doing 180 to 240 magic damage and seems to be a triple hit. It came as three hits at once in damage chat against singleton mobs as well as against grouped mobs.

He's seems to be using an AoE taunt at times. When fighting a group of 3, a single one might come for me and then turn back to him. This shows the earth pet is pulling him back without him being the target.. so he's using an AoE effect to pull it back. This was not paired with any damage being done to the mob in question at the time, so I can be pretty sure that he is using his AoE taunt. It is possible though that the mob turned to the earth pet simply because the pet was the only one doing damage at the time.

The AoE taunt is not as strong as it was. Using shattered land early in battle pulled aggro from grouped encounters easily, where in the past it pulled aggro less often. However, the pet seemed to pull aggro back more often and later in the battle the shattered land generally didn't pull aggro. It certainly feels like this was as advertised - a weaker AoE taunt used more often. It is possible though that it's simply built up taunt and not an AoE taunt effect.

The fighting target of the pet seemed very difficult to get aggro away from the pet. I was still able to solo tough heroics without pulling aggro despite laying down serious dps.

Same dustwhip mobs for the Air Pet testing.

Adept 3 Aery Stalker - level 56 - Transient Haven Adept 3 (to balance to earth pet test and so he didn't kill too quickly hehe)

Aery Whip - Initial hit of 160 - 210 damage.DoT effect hitting for 60-65 each tick. 6 ticks at 3 or 4 second delay.

Thunderous Attack - 306 - 365 cold

Wisp Blade - 563 - 649 cold

Storm Surge - 387 - 448 cold. Also lands a maintained effect on the mob: On my level 56 Adept 3 pet it is -392 mitigation on Piercing, Slashing and Crushing.

Fury Storm - 268 - 378 cold. Looks like being a quadruple hit attack, each hit hitting for the amount given

I suspect that one of these attacks should be an AoE one.. but didn't notice any coincident damage to mobs in groups, so couldn't say that I saw one. I had to go help my partner in Cazic Thule though so didn't look all too long. Could be that there is one - I just didn't notice it.

Note: the air pet was able to pull a mob back that had not been damaged at the beginning of a fight. So it might well be that the mob was turning back in the earth pet test just because the earth pet was doing the damage.

I don't seem to see the graphics for when the taunt is used on the mob - perhaps because I'm at extreme performance settings. I may try on my other computer later to see if I can spot it there.

Same dustwhip mobs for Fire Pet testing.

Adept 3 Igneous Magi - level 56 - Transient Haven Adept 3 (to balance to other pet tests and so he didn't kill too quickly hehe)

Searing Flames Regular Use. Single Target DoT 5 ticks @ 100 to 150 heat damage

Igneous Flames Regular Use. Single Target Nuke 290 to 320 heat damage

Sphere of Flames Occasional use.
Modifying Airy Whip effect. Looks like it includes an initial hit of 160 - 210 damage.

X

Note: Both vestment and blazing presence proc properly from the fire pet's spell casting, making it quite the formidable pet in groups right now. Against a group of cyclops statues in poet's palace, I hit 2200 dps between EV/BP and an AE.

Further feedback:

It looks like the Air Pet attack Storm Surge might just be supposed to have an AoE effect. There is an associated graphic of icicles dropping that covers the usual AoE area which makes it look like an encounter AoE effect...

... but although it runs an effect on the targeted mob, it doesn't seem to damage the other mobs or run an effect on the other mobs in the group.

X

Message Edited by XtremSummons on 12-22-2005 07:05 AM

Well.. I've found another spell that has the same graphical representation as the storm surge effect. The wizard spell, Numbing Cold which reduces movement speed of up to 6 targets and has a chance of immobilising them when they attempt to melee uses the same graphical effect. Can't say yet whether its effect is similar... but it's possible I suppose. At the least it would suggest that the Storm Surge effect is indeed supposed to be encounter AoE.

X

Storm Surge effect is now quantified. Updating it in the original post. It's a Crushing, Slashing and Piercing mitigation debuff. On my level 56 Adept 3 pet it is -392 mitigation on the three.

X

On the air pet (the level 46), it now fears mobs......shhhhh if the necros hear this they will get angry that we have a fearing pet.

In PoF I pulled a stack of harpies....one beated wings for the monks.....i pulled back killed the 2 and then in about 45 seconds the feared one came back. I also confirmed this in Varsoon when trying to finish a few heritages. In the room of the summoner the last 2 mobs broke for the door after I hit them with the 30 second snare. Anyone else notice that the air pet is fearing.

Do any of the other air pets use fear now or only that one?

I can't say that I've seen the Aery Stalker fear a mob as yet in the testing I've done.

X

Actually yesterday it caught me completely by surprise........I was like Why is my pet running across the zone?......Thank god harpies are not that social....or I would have been slaughtered. I am going to try and look at the logs to see exactly what it cast on it....btw the fear is not snared......so it runs at full speed if not rained.

I was just thinking about this again, and I can also add that during my testing I didn't see any icon maintained on any of the mobs by Air pet attacks, other than the DoTs and Mitigation debuff. I tested against a great many single and grouped weak green encounters, so any effect should have been seen at some point during that testing really.

I'm not discounting it - as it's possible it's a rare effect or potentially one that has been added since the testing. When I have some time, I'll see if I can reproduce it, but it would be helpful to have more clear descriptions of the circumstances in which the pet does the fear. That way I can target the testing effort a little better.

X

To my knowledge, the effect you are talking about it mob specific. The same thing happened when I was doing solo xp out in PoF two months ago. One harpy would come to the pet (didn't seem to matter, tank or air pet ) and the other two would run. I can't say that I've seen it happen in Varsoons, but I do know that some of the harpies tend to do this. *shrugs*FinkDominion of Toxxulia
