View Full Version : Pet pull Nerf?

Is anybody noticing that pet pulling has changed? I now have to be eye level and 3 ft away to send pet in to pull a mob. Otherwise I get "You may not order your pet to attack the selected or implied target." Anybody know if this is planned or just a bug. It effectively stops us from standing on the hills in PoF and pulling mobs up to us -- yet I'm not going to stand in the middle of 200 cats and fight. <div></div>

It's been like that for awhile, hasn't it?

Nope - I've been sitting on several high areas in SS and PoF for weeks now, pulling the mobs up to me. As of today, I have to be within a very small Z axis distance from the mob. I'm still trying to figure out exactly what/where I need to be now, but so far it looks like I can't be "3 feet" above or below the mob to send pet in. <div></div>

They changed to to be LOS only weeks ago... <div></div>

I have LoS and have pulled that way every day up until LU17. From the exact same spots, pulling the exact same spawns. --Something is goofy with the Z axis (Vertical). In testing, I can be in aggro range, but if my feet are at the mobs waist, the pet won't attack. -- I can cast spells, but not send in the pet. <div></div>

I'm still trying to find out exactly what the trick is to this - have had the same issues. Hate to have to pull with a spell, but that is what I have to do sometimes when it seems clear that both I and my pet should have LOS. Hopefully, SOE will make the rules really clear soon - or maybe someone will point us to the right post on the boards if they already have. J Wellington Wells <div></div>

<P>I have noticed this also, its a real pain however pathing has always been and will probably continue to be very tough to code for NPC's.</P> <P>I have no issue with a pet not having "line of sight" on a mob on an inaccessible ledge 3 feet above me but a mob 3 feet above me on a gentle slope....??? Cmon!</P> <P>I cant see an easy resolution to this without rolling back to the "pet teleportation" days .</P> <P>/watches this space</P>

Not been a problem at all. I can happily pull from so far away that vehement stone runs out before the pet gets back to me (that's 30 secs)...</P> <P>There must be something about the specific geography where you're fighting, because it's not distance or eyeline that's causing it. More likely would be LoS with some sort of feature that may not look like much to you, but that the game perceives as being an object in the way.</P> <P>X</P> <p>Message Edited by XtremSummons on <span class=date_text>12-02-2005</span> <span class=time_text>11:34 AM</span>
I have found that it is where the mob is, or where you are. I think it is related to the LoS issue, but something we can not see. It is like something is blocking us....All i do is cast with a low aggro spell. This causes the mob to come but the Nancyboy pet can gain aggro real fast. This will limit chain pulling all the spiders in SS <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />, but you should see that there are some that you can pull.

<DIV>Well.. .today in Sinking Sands I chain pulled at various times the dune tarantulas from the top of the hill, the giants around branogg the banished or whatever he's called, the sentinels of anuk and some groups of those mobs around the northern oasis. Never once had a problem at all...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Perhaps I just happen to be choosing good places to stand?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>X</DIV>

<DIV>Well, perhaps the zone does have something to do with it, but as far as I can tell it's definitely a Z-axis issue like a poster above mentioned. In the Feerrott I have all kinds of problems pulling swamp feeders/creeps if they are flying high above me. If I pull with a spell rather than the pet, or if I just wait until they fly lower it's fine. The LoS thingie was put in weeks ago, but I certainly notice it more after LU17.</DIV>

<DIV>It has got to be a bug, I get this [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] message when I try to attack mobs standing two inches away in virtual wide open areas.</DIV>

<DIV>Just to further report,</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I was soloing the Windfeathers that the ashen disciples kill in PoF today from up the side of a hill - could mostly pull up the hill just fine except where there was clearly a bump in front of me disturbing LoS. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>X</DIV>
There is definetly a problem with Line of Sight. Lastnight while running through antonica I stopped by the gnolls across from the lighthouse. I was standing face to face with those lowbie gnolls when I hit pet attack, but still got the <font color="#ff0000">"You may not order your pet to attack the selected or implied target."</font> message. <span>:smileysurprised:</span> I could send in the pet after moving around, but a tiny bump in the terrain <b>shouldn't</b> block the pet. I already avoid caves/mines because of thier [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn]ty pet pathing. I don't want those problems to spread to the rest of the world. <div></div>

<DIV>Just to be clear, I'm not trying to say that there isn't an issue. It's clear that people are reporting one and so something is wrong. I've only reported my own experiences in order to make clear that the issue may not be as simple as Z axis differential or a particular zone.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The challenge is to find an explanation that fits all the reports - and then we have a better chance of seeing the root cause and getting it addressed.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>X</DIV>

<DIV>Finally saw some of this and think it may be something completely different and not LoS at all as a result.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So yesterday, I was soloing up at the 54/55 Heroic Windsister Raiders. I was up the side of a mountain near where the ashen disciples kill the windsisters. I pulled up and around the mountain for several hours without a hitch. Sometimes, you have to pull back the pet before it gets to attack because an Ashen Disciple grabs the mob - but that was fine too. I made a good chunk of XP up there.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Today I went there with a friend duoing and started to see some of the problems with the pet refusing to attack. Here's some notes though on the weirdness surrounding this.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1) I was at the same spot that I'd soloed for hours yesterday without problems - yet suddenly the pet would refuse to attack. This would seem to imply that the landscape and heights aren't at fault. The mobs spawn and fly around a corner there, and I always stand in the same area to attack them ASAP before the disciples get them so I can be reasonably sure that the problem isn't landscape.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>2) One a couple of occasions, the mob was hovering in place and I was stood still. The pet refused to attack several times, then suddenly attacked... <EM>without either the mob or myself or the pet moving</EM>. Nothing had changed in positioning but the pet refused and then attacked!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>3) I noticed an odd behaviour. I was slapping my attack button trying to ge the pet to attack and it was refusing, then one of the Ashen disciples would take that mob on and at the moment the mob greyed out, the pet would suddenly decide it wanted to attack! This happened repeatedly over a period of a couple of hours - and every time the mob greyed out while I was trying without success to attack it, the pet suddenly went in. This would suggest some odd relationship between mob mode and pet mode somehow.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>4) I noticed that recasting the pet often seemed to help... and on two occasions I had been unable to attack anything for a few minutes and so relogged and the problems had disappeared. This too might suggest that some setting re myself and the pet was messing up.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'd say from my experiences today that the issue isn't one of landscape or Z axis. Areas and even precise spots seem unable to replicate the issue. There's a fair bit of evidence that it has something to do with the pet mode settings, the char flags somewhere and some interaction with mob modes.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I did wonder whether it might be connected to pulling the pet off a mob before it hit that mob and never going back to kill the mob. Something odd in hatelist or something perhaps? It's certainly an odd issue and not a simple landscape or Z-axis thing.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>X</DIV><p>Message Edited by XtremSummons on <span class=date_text>12-04-2005</span> <span class=time_text>04:48 AM</span>

<DIV> I have an example, from a lowbie perspective, to add to this:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> As a summoner, in the Graveyard in Freeport. I can have my pet spider pull from everywere...EXCEPT from mobs in the buildings. One is a tower with no door...mobs standing inside (LOS is percect). The other is the building next to it. No door, but you can see mobs inside. Targetable, and in LOS....but pet will not attack. I pull with something (like dispel magic), THEN my pet will join in.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> Weird....</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>
I first noticed this problem weeks ago while doing harclave. When I first enter harclave, i make my way down that tunnel to the first landing. I kill the gnoll that's there. Then i target the first gnoll on the next landing and try to send my pet after it and that's where i run into that problem.I can cast a spell on the gnoll, but i can't send my pet in after it??Has soon as my spell lands and I gain aggro, i can send my pet in no problem, but only after i gain aggro.I've noticed this problem in various other zones on different mobs but I never kept track. I might start doing it now.Xec

<P>I have noticed this most frequently when a mob is standing under an overhang or something. For instance, in Sinking Sands there are mobs on the path up from the Oasis to the desert, and some of them right are standing under slight rock overhangs. Same Z-axis level as me, I'd guess, right in front of me, just out of aggro range. I'll try to send pet in and often find I get refused - no matter how much I move around. I must cast a spell to pull, and then pet will attack.</P> <P>Similar issues with some mobs in Everfrost. I've had trouble in the area with the Behemoths, monitors, etc. Sometimes, again, a mob will be set up on a rock or under a rock overhang, and the pet won't be able to attack. Again, I cast a spell to pull and then the pet can attack.</P> <P>J Wellington Wells</P>

<P>I am pretty sure I have had exactly the same problem. Main difference here is that I am a coercer.</P> <P>Had several occasions where I have not been able to send in my pet but have been able to pull with a spell. I am certain it is not a Z-axis problem. I can be very sure of this since one tactic I use is to mezz a group of mobs then send in the pet to kill them one by one. I can remember 2 clear occasions where all the mobs were on the same level as me and I have killed the first 2 or 3 and then had the pet refuse to attack the next.</P> <P>One possibility is that it is the PETs LOS that is causing the problem since usually there is some obstruction nearby which may be affecting the pet but not me.</P> <P> </P>

Definitely a problem. I was in the temple of Sol Ro last night and I had to stand on top of the mobs in order to get my pet to attack. I could nuke them np, but petsky just stood there drooling until I stood on the mobs' heads. <div></div>

Ok if no one has noticed Blackguad and other devs addressed thsi problem and have a fix going for it... when live update 18 comes... It seems our pet inherited some of the actually creature it mimics special abilities that reflect a AOE.... SO when your pet goes into the fight its is in fact using AOES to pull multi mobs... so deal with this problem as best as you can until the fix goes up... they did fix teh aqueous pet though if i remember correctly
