problem with making that 1 macro is, when you tell the pet to "back off" it stop protecting you & itself. this is because if it was protecting itself it would not back off because if it got hit it would run back into the fight. hope that make sense.

I would recommend against this macro. When you use Pet Back Off, it basically commands the pet to ignore all attacks, and force the pet to return to your side. Having it turn on its two protect states would defeat the purpose of using Pet Back Off in the first place. If you played EQLive, Pet Back Off is identical to /pet hold.Besides, I don't know the commands. They got goofed with awhile ago and I can't remember what they are now

They're in my FAQ, Xal (though I haven't put them in the summoners tower one I don't think).
Q. What are the different pet commands so I can put them in a macro?

A. While I don't generally recommend macro'ing the various pet commands, here they are if you have some use for 'em. The preserve's are what you'd think of as the pet guard commands.

/pet stay

/pet follow

/pet backoff

/pet attack

/pet preserve_self

/pet preserve_master

Edit: And that's actually a decent macro if you want to reset your pet to default since the backoff turns off all other commands... breaks stays and all that. Therefore if you want to use that macro, then it would be:

/pet backoff

/pet preserve_self

/pet preserve_master

I don't use it but a few people do... just never seemed valueable enough a macro to take up a hotkey slot (to me).

Message Edited by El Chupacabras on 11-26-2005 02:03 PM

If you intend to use the macro when pulling with the pet, it would probably be better to use the macro attack + pretect me + protect self.

I use this all the time when using the tank pet, cos im a bit forgetful turning the protcts back on after pet pulling a large mob from distance. This way you can send the pet in, bang the back off button when he gets agro, and bang the macro when the mob is in range.

Oh I wouldn't use this when pulling with a pet. You lose control of the timing and some finesse in distance pulling which can be an essential soloists tool.

I have simple /pet attack and /pet back off as buttons on my toolbar. Tell pet to attack while targetting mob. The moment the pet appears as the mob's implied target, hit pet back off. When the mob is close enough for your desired battle position hit pet attack again. Doing it this way, if you time it right, you can even get the pet to turn the mob so that you are behind it as a tank should do.

One other tip is that the Earth pet has a ranged pull but it has limited range. If you're pulling over a long distance, then when the pet is near the mob but not in melee range, do pet back off and then immediately pet attack. You can often get the pet to pull from range miles away from you which you'll see because the pet becomes the mob's implied target. Hit back off again to pull back to you - thus allowing your pet to pull from a very long distance without being in melee range of the mob during the pull at all.

Then too - during combat it's important that I choose the mob that the pet is attacking. I do this by targeting and hitting pet attack button. The protect modes are ones I really use mostly just to have the pet automatically jump in when I am unexpectedly attacked by a mob, for example while harvesting. For best aggro holding against a group encounter, I prefer to cycle through the mobs and hit pet attack so that the pet hits each mob, this also means that they go into the pet's hatelist so he will attack them.

No need for macros - all they're doing is taking up space on your hotbar unnecessarily.

X

Message Edited by XtremSummons on 11-27-2005 01:16 AM

I've found using depechnode's pet window works well for me Send pet in as normal, Hit back off button to bring it and mob back to you Hit new button which tells pet to attack and also re-engages pet protections for master & self.

I didn't use a Macro until recently but I find this works well in a pet pulling situation:

Send pet in to attack.

Back off using macro:

/pet backoff

/pet preserve_master

Then when I send to attack again I use:

/pet attack

/pet preserve_self

That way when I back the pet off he is set to protect me should something come to beat on me, and when I send him to attack again he protects himself so he'll move on to the next mob that hits him after he kills something. I kinda have to pay attention to whether he is protecting himself or not, but it he isn't it's just the no. 1 button on the numpad for me instead of the mouse to reset it.

I have mine set up to re-engage both of them on the attack macro, but there have been many times when I had to flee from a fight, and I use /pet back to keep my pet from dying while I run away. Since I don't ever send my pet in to attack in that encounter, the pet won't respond if I later wander to close to a KoS mob. Danedori
