I've been thinking about this problem and I REALLY want the 1 HP damage rule removed with the chance to afk XP removed as well. I've had an idea... Make the defend me button a push button and not a toggle... Let me explain... You're fighting a mob and an add attacks you....you click on the defend me button (which just clicks instead of toggles) , your pet then ignores the mobs(s) it's attacking and makes a bee-line for the  last mob to hit you when the button was pressed and attacks that one instead. Everyone keeps the option to get the pet to attack mobs that hit you, those using the defend me option to afk XP won't  be able to and we can finally get the 1 HP rule removed. flame / comment as you wish. <div></div>

<P>That would mean in a multi-mob encounter that you have to push "defend me" every time a different mob aggros on you.  Not to mention needing to remember to push defend me every time you engage in a fight.  And I don't know about you, but if I'm running around and reading guild chat, I might take a few hits before I realize and react to hit the button.  Against some heroics, you'll have a dead conjuror before you can send your pet in...</P> <P>I think the best solution is to remove the requirement completely until such time as it can be implemented in a manner that fits the intent.  The current solution and this proposal punish the many honest players for the actions of the few unscrupulous.</P>

The best solution was mentioned in another thread on this issue: have the "defend me" button turn off automatically after 1hr. That way if someone goes AFK, they come back to a dead character. <div></div>

I don't see what the big deal is about having to do one point of damage.Can someone enlighten me on why it's a big deal?? One DD spell on your target and your golden.Xec

You're in a group - the mobs are vvv - one or more mobs can die before you do any damage at all, resulting in you getting less XP then the group. <div></div>

I'm my group, my pet plays MT or puller. If I pull a group of vvv or even a group mobs with a single-down healer, the ranger will usually 1 shot the healer on incoming at max range. Since the pet is on its agro list, the 1 pt requirement is in place so that mob will die before I can land a spell. Poof, no xp for me. <div></div>

<P>What they really need to do is to take a closer look at our spells and abilities and give each one a flag of either passive or active. Damage shield is passive...just slap it on and it requires no input to function. Aqueous swarm is active. Even though it's a pet, you have to activate it for it to do anything. Even a pet heal would be considered active, since you are actively contributing to the fight. And if you're in a group, you should get full xp if anyone in your group does any damage (this may already be true, I've heard conflicting reports about it but haven't had a chance to test it myself).</P> <P>Danedori</P>

<DIV>Why not just make it so that the "Defend me" "Defend yourself" options gives no experience without performing 1 pt of non damage-shield damage, but actively using the attack function does?
