Ok after reading on this forum over and over of people and their experience of pet I decided to take a go at it with real hard testing. My experience was chocking to me at least.I have done this test at level 24 and 25 and only compared at same level each time.Tested on 50 green con ^^ Undead in Thundering Steppes. (same level each time compared).Tellurian Hero (Training 20):Innitial attack style:It starts most with a ranged tripple attack causing 120-150 damage from a range of 30(estimated).This makes you beeing able to unload all 3(at 24) or 4(25) DoTs landing the first one even when mob still is "pulled by pet".During the combat its impossible to get agro unless chain healing and HOing.Fighting:During the fight it knocks the mob down to the ground and that seems to cause insane agro (which is nice )Also see a continues flow of hits. For reference using spells: Adept 3 Soothing servant (pet heal) App IV Fire seed, App IV Provocation.Tellurian Soldier (Adept 3 level 24):Innitial attack style:Runs to target and makes a normal attack typical 30-50.Hits mob continues with a kind of slow rate but bash nice for 60ish.Have to wait a bit untill you unload the DoTs though since agro is not as strong from pet as Hero.Fighting:Here is the strange part in the fight at times the Soldier just STOP hitting, can be for 5-10sec and in worse case mob come to you if you heal during this. Also if it is a group of 2-3mobs after killing 1 sometimes the pet runs to the next but does nothing just stand there looking when it beats me. Damage:The DPS on both is low but a bit higher with Hero then Soldier.Tanking:The hitpoints on Soldier is more no doubt, that is good except that its defence is lower making you need to heal it more then Hero and that ends up with you loosing power too fast. The sum of it= same mob the Soldier can use 3-4heals and Hero 1. So guess my question here to others is has it been like this before? Is the Soldier going to get better and if so at what level is it getting usefull? At the moment it feels like a sad waste of money for me on it, would have bought the Igneous Apprentice Adept 3 instead if I had known it was like this in advance.
Message Edited by Iglo on 03-14-2005 03:12 AM

The Soldier will continue levelling way more, giving you a powerful pet until you get the Veteran at 38. So yes, do not expect to reach the mastery of the Soldier until lv34-36 (again, top of my head). And remember that the levels above 30 are getting more and more difficult, so having your Adept3 Soldier will be a blessing. Else you are stuck with the Hero up to lv38,,,

Exactly Loralor. The hero is a great pet up until it stops leveling and at that point you certainly are going to want to have the Soldier. I /respec'd at level 29 so I used the Hero up until that time. When I /respec'd I purchased the Soldier Adept 3 and chose the Dust Blast training upgrade. At level 29 the pets were very close in ability but I would still give the edge to the Soldier.
