Taken from the EQ2 Players website's LU31 Preview:And we've been working on pet behavior! Pets will attack more reliably on stairs, and caster pets have learned to stand back and cast instead of running into melee range. Plus, adjusting the behavior of your pet will now properly persist though zoning.Hopefully this will include our beloved charmed pets <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /><div></div>

<div></div><div></div>I doubt it will, as I imagine the AI for casted pet is probably different from that of all other mobs in the game, which is essentially where our pets come from.  Plus mobs who cast will always run up to you and melee. It'd be quite a chance if all caster mobs just stood at range and nuke you lol...be a pita body pulling any casters hehe.Edit: per this post: <a href="http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=26&message.id=17197#M17197" target=_blank>http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=26&message.id=17197#M17197</a>sounds liek pets will get a /pet ranged and /pet melee command...so it may also work on charmed pets <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /><div></div><p>Message Edited by Oldlore on <span class="date_text">01-21-2007</span> <span class="time_text">06:12 AM</span></p><p>Message Edited by Oldlore on <span class=date_text>01-21-2007</span> <span class=time_text>06:13 AM</span>

if it's working as intended, it will be a really nice improvement for every "pet class" . <span>:smileyhappy:</span><div></div>

See <a target="_blank" href="http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=26&message.id=17196">this post</a> by a dev in illusionists forum.<p>From the post:</p><p><i>Its a toggle, so it'll only affect your pet if you want it to. There are two new commands /pet ranged and /pet melee. /pet range makes the pet opt to stay out of melee range, /pet melee is the default behavior the pet currently has.</i></p>

<P>From Rothgar1:  <EM>"This behavior will work on any pet that you can control."</EM></P> <P>This looks to be great news for Coercers, indeed.  <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P>

<DIV>/happydance</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The constant "attack, wait for cast, back off" dance is so annoying.  Glad to hear it's gonna be better (hopefully, assuming it's not badly bugged on implementation, of course. . . )</DIV>

I just checked if the new /pet ranged command worked on a corpse candle.  Unfortunately, corpse candles don't like the command.Oh well, now I wonder which mobs accept the command.<div></div>

<DIV>I'm only a T3 coercer, but since an update the day following GU31 I've been able to used /pet ranged and /pet melee with great success and it is great.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'm glad I won't have to learn that attack/backoff dance that the rest of you have had to perfect.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I would definately make a macro and hotbar both /pet ranged and /pet melee because every time charm breaks you'll have to redo the command.</DIV>

Yeah, some pets are kinda weird.  I grabbed some fury pet and set it to /pet ranged.  It just sat there doing nothing for the 30-40sec fight.  So then I guessed, ok, maybe this [Removed for Content] pet has no spells so I may as well set it to /pet melee.  As soon as I do that, you see him CAST A SPELL and then run in to melee.

This bug sounds like it would require code or script added for when pets break or are released. If you sent a bug report they got it. It does sound like a mild exploit but it only affects a few classes. Othesus - Dirge - Lucan DLere Vaspar - Fury - Lucan DLere
