View Full Version : What's the first Charm spell without a level limit?
<DIV>So I just hit level 22ish with my new Coercer, and - hey, surprise! - up pops a Charm Master I spell for the paltry sum of 12g. I snatch it up instantly, but realize something I hadn't noticed before. My charm spell description says it's limited to Level 24 beasties or lower.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now, I'm not terribly upset about the prospect of losing 12g, but did I just shell out cash to upgrade a Charm I won't be able to use within a few days? I've been hunting for a master Charm-esque spell for some time with the hope that it would last me until the next Master (I'm not bothered about having to recast more often; I want the pet bang-for-my-buck that comes with upgrades), but I suppose I may need to keep hunting.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I *was* hoping to be able to use Charm a little longer because I don't look forward to the prospect of mining until I can pick up a palladium cluster, but hey.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So... what's the first charm spell that can potentially last me a life-time?</DIV>

Coerce (at level 20) has no such restriction, nor do any further upgrades.<div></div>
<P>*grumbles*</P> <P>Ah well, Master Charm should come in handy for Fallen Gate and the last few Wailing Caves FSRs I have kicking around, if nothing else.</P> <P>A-minin' I will go, I guess. Man, you'd think as Coercers we could at least press some orcs into service to do our rare-hunting for us.</P> <P> </P> <P>Thanks!</P>

An ad3 charm, while not as nice as a m1, will still last you basically forever. I think I used an ad3 Coerce until level 58 or so, when I got a Dominate m1.<div></div>

charm only breaks if it gets resisted, when it checks vs magic every 30(?) seconds - and that's just a chance to break, depending on various factors (mob's mag resist, your subj skill, spell quality, etc). i believe there is a "bug" right now with one of the group cure arcane spells that is breaking charm but that is not working as intended afaik.<div></div>
<DIV>In practice, I found Charm broke early pretty often before I maxed out my Subjugation and used some AA points. Right now, I'm at 3/5 of the Charm improvement in the EOF tree (those were my first three AA points spent), and with those in place, Charm seldom breaks early. Spell quality makes a difference too, though, as do any number of other factors.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Anyway, I snagged a Palladium cluster for about 36g, and made me an ADIII Coerce, so I guess I'm set until I spot a Master on the broker.</DIV>
