I've been doing some research and think I got the basic difference between a coercer and an illusionist. So, basically, one charms and the other is only DPS/crowd control? I assume the illusionist's CC and DD spells would be better to compensate? Lastly, do coercers get group mez as a real spell, not gimped in any way? Gimped=15 min recast, only works on some type of mob, or another such nonsense.

Asking for basic guide about a class always attracts about 4 helpful posters with different versions of "do a search"; I've done one, it didn't help, so if you were about to post that, don't

We also have a PBAE stun(Point Blank Area of Effect) spell which Illusionists do not have. The PBAE stun allows us to do things a bit easier than Illusionists IMO. For instance I don't think an Illusionist can solo Cazel the Mad because of his intial stun. Also since our group mez can't be cast to stack on itself like our single target can, We can use our PBAE while group mez fades and it holds the group down with the stun so group mez can be recast.

Both Enchanters crowd control excellently IMO. We however have better power regen between Manacloak, Ease & Beholder's Eye.

Illusionists use a Personae Split as their pet, while we can virtually turn anything into a pet. Our DPS is dependant on our Proc's and triggers on Auspex and Spell Scourge with no pet, while an Illusionist relies on his own personal output for DPS. An excellent pet can make the difference in a mediocre DPS output and the top of the list. However my perception of my Coercer isn't "DPS" it's versatile. Stun, Mez, Power Heal, Charm, DPS Increase, Hate Gain, Hate Redux. Go Coercer's just because Illusionists aren't as fun.

the simple answer to your question is that coercers are stunners first mezzers second, and that illusionists are the other way around. the difference between the two in each department is very slight tho.the difference between the two is more obvious in our pets, where coercers have to charm, and where illusionists get a safer pet of their level all the way to 70. their pet is very strong in the early levels, where coercer's charmed pets have much higher potential in the later levels (while having the limitation of being dependent on what pets the zone provides, which in a few cases can be none).coercers can be played to be charming mobs virtually all the time, or can be played as more of a crowd control oriented chanter that rarely charms at all. in those two definitions there are even further breakdowns of what a coercer can specialize in, eg being an "MT" coercer or a "DPS" coercer (depending on how they spec their AAs, the quality of their spells, and what kind of gear they wear).
