<DIV>Hi there,</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I did search for answers to this but if I search on charm theres quite a few hits, none of which seemed relevant but heaven knows I could of missed the good stuff!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have recently returned after a long break, started a coercer and am now at the heady heights of level 37. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I just want to check I am not doing something wrong as my pet appears to turn into a weakling as soon as I charm him. I read that Coercers should be able to take out yellow heroic mobs, and while I can lay waste to green and blue solo creatures by for example charming a treant in EL, I cannot touch a heroic mob as my pet generally dies in a hit or two and root/dot/nuke doesn't work as root breaks and the creature comes across and puts me down fast. I have tried for example killing a Nightfall giant (in Nek of course) with a charmed Nightfall giant who immediately turns into something rather weak that dies in under 20 seconds, with the original target still above 80 percent.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Another example was only a level or two ago, trying to solo one of the (gray) epic orcs (general I think) in commonlands for a quest. Although gray he chopped through any pet I could find (couldn't find gustfeather!) and again root/dot/nuke wasn't working, he was breaking root and doing more damage than I could cope with.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Am I doing something wrong or is the ability to solo heroics as a solo Coercer no longer viable? Perhaps people are referring to the previous ability of the coercer to damage a creature then pet it and let it die for xp? Do I need to wait for the ability to take over a creature and use it's abilities later (err dominate is it?) to make this viable?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I guess it would still be possible for me to do both of the above with a stream of charmed pets, I just wanted to check I wasn't missing something which all good coercers know!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<P>I would like to preface my response by saying that your goal should not be to solo yellow heroics.  If you are playing a coercer for that, you are missing alot.  </P> <P>However, one thing you have missed is that when you charm a pet, (using coerce, beguile, dominate, domination, etc), the pet becomes a standard no arrow con mob.  Meaning it cannot take alot of damage from a regular heroic mob.  Imagine it able to take about as much damage as you could take melee'ing with a heroic and that is where your pet will be at.  </P> <P>To accomplish this feat, you need a master charm spell and a good mage caster type pet.  Once you have said pet, you find your target, and mez it.  While mezzed you apply your root and debuffs as necessary.  Ensure to keep it rooted.  Now send the pet in to attack and immediately call it back, and if it is casting a spell, start to re mez your foe.  This way, a second after your pets nuke lands on its target, your mez will cast and remez the target.  Check your roots and debuffs and then rinse/repeat until said mob is dead.  BTW this takes some time and gets boring/dangerous depending on targets, pets and location...</P>

<P>Thanks a lot for both of those replies, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything key. I have no pressing urge to solo yellow heroics, I am having plenty of fun already anyway. I was just suprised a grey heroic was ripping me up, but can just wait for my Necro friend to get on and his pet can tank it then.</P> <P> </P>

<P>a coercer starts to shine at high lvl ...</P> <P>Anything used to rip me apart.  And still does from time to time.</P> <P>On the other hand when i'm really aiming for it, i bring down anything i want, including nameds :smileyvery-happy:</P> <P>It really takes a lot of time to learn how to play a coercer and even at lvl 70 i still learn stuff, but that's the fun about the class.  It's probably one of the hardest classes to learn/lvl but at the other hand if you start to get the hang of it, it's such a rewarding and fun class...</P>

<DIV>I solo'ed a max yellow heroic, Siphon in Sinking Sands (49) at ~45.  If you get a ghoul, you can just do what is stated above and keep the mob mez/rooted in between it's Corrosive Strikes.  You'll take it down in about 3-4 minutes assuming no adds.</DIV>
